  1. unscrew the speedo cable from the back of the gearbox, and that should give you enough play
  2. Yeah, after such a hiatus, it's good to get back into it. Bit of an update - going to get my front callipers rebuilt, as it turns out that my dead pedal is not caused by the rear cylinders as I had first thought. but still replaced both the cylinders just because. Got my dash and head unit in plus the steering wheel back on ;) . Just waiting on a few cables before the final fit-off. Outside of that, have discovered a couple of issues with the power window conversion, so will need to sort that out. ...Getting there!
  3. Hi. Great effort. Have you encountered any issues with fouling of the window on the motor?
  4. Have a read... http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/16660-matts-7k-ke30/page__st__210 He's done it with plenty of detail. not sure about the starlet cross member, but can't imagine it being much different...
  5. Small update today: Got the dash back into position (which although is a minute achievement for most, given the amount of sporadic activity I can get, is massive for me). Started connecting everything back up, and testing before I completely bolt back in - so far so good. I should have a steering wheel on by the weekend :) So issues I have uncovered - rear wheel cylinders seized - will need to investigate further, but this would explain the lack of braking. Also having teething issues with the Cruise - not holding/grabbing the cable as it should, so will need to investigate this further too. Also have discovered fouling of the electric windows (Very much less than ideal) on the window, so will have to have a bit of a think tank about that one too. attached are pics of the dash. you can see my rough handy-work of the ducting - does work for ducting, so hopefully come time for AC will be good :) Also, you can see the Oil pressure guage where the clock should be :) got to love a dremmel multi tool!
  6. I like your work. Very thorough and depending on how you go with the final results, might be a route I head down. Keep up the great work!
  7. Hahaha, I have that same problem - although mine ends up on roof, and in the back...
  8. Wheels look awesome! as does the height Good work
  9. Small update. Completed the passenger window conversion, so just need to fit and test. Outside of that, was a little bored and inventive yesterday - found that every clock I tried didn't work. So, with the help of the old oil pressure gauge that I had lying around, combined the 2 together (for that factory look). Pretty stoked at how it turned out. Will post pics tonight. Cheers
  10. Amazing man - car looks great - look forward to seeing it in the flesh! Have to say, your efforts are making me jealous - and making me mentally spend a lot of money... Good work!
  11. Part of the combustion process, is water vapour. this condenses on the cool exhaust metal. In the mean time, because your car is also running rich (not up to temperature/etc) on start-up, it produces carbon as part of the unburnt fuel. This mixes to form your black liquid. happens to most cars - especially carbied ones...
  12. My wife and I use a pulsar (96) as our daily. Pretty unemotional to drive, but gets us from a to b reasonably economically. They're up there with the corolla for stress free driving, but I don't believe the engines can cop as much abuse. If its been well maintained and runs smoothly, then give it a look.
  13. Cheers mate. I'll have to start it again this weekend - make sure the cruise is doing what it should, and not going to end up with the sticky throttle i got sometimes in the nova... Will have to get over to you soon, and see if you can help me out with some paint too...sick of the taxi bonnet
  14. Hi, I came across one of these the other day - and wanted to know what model it was off. Appears to have a crown positioned above the "C". Cheers
  15. get the battery tested...Supercheap can test it in the vehicle, and also leak test the wiring, too see if there is a high residual current draw.
  16. Rack and Pinion would be very nice, but i think its a route I probably won't go down just yet...my wife may or may not murder me if I start thinking about spending that much on it :P. Looking at the moment at the possibility of corona LCA's for at lease 0 deg camber. Central locking might be a goer too, after it gets on club reg... ah, why do these thoughts cost so much...
  17. Cheers mate. My next tasks are finishing off the cruise control, and the passenger side window. Ah, such fun!
  18. Good to hear mate! she a bit loud without the airbox?
  19. Mate, great to see another van (with windows) getting some love! Love your work - jealous of the welding skills too...
  20. Excellent score! Any plans for it? Were the bumpers attached too?
  21. Haha...took a while to sort out in the end - ended up having the wrong compressor, modifying something that didn't need to be modified, etc...mind you, that's what happens when you sorce parts 3 years ago, and promptly forget how the bits go together. But its in now - just hope that i'll be able to get the system gassed.
  22. Cheers Ben, Yeh, had a look, and a chat with the guy. Will try and work with what I have at the moment, and see him if I need any spares. Just starting to get stuck into the routing now though. starting to get a little excited - can't wait to have it on the road
  23. Yeah, looking forward to getting it on the road. shouldn't be long now. My biggest hurdle is sorting out A/C ducting on the earlier dash. Weber is a brand of carburetter from Italy. The one I'm using is a 32/32 DGV(?) with a Ram-flo foam air cleaner - Thanks Chris. People commonly fit a Weber in lieu of the factory Aisin as a cheap performance gain.
  24. So years on, and I figured it was time for a small update.... A lot has happened in that time...I got married, moved a couple of times, got a job, etc.... And the car has sat ever so quietly at my parents place. That was until I turned it over (with a fresh battery and stale fuel - still have only filled it up ONCE) and drove it onto the car trailer about 3 months ago. Since then, I have been slowly tinkering, finding inspiration in threads here and there. Needless to say, the priorities have changes somewhat too. I'm heading away from the camper style, to just something that suits the purpose of the car - to be enjoyed. So in has gone the A/C - all plumbed up, and mostly installed, The elec windows are next - have just started on the passenger side (Window goes up, Window goes down... The cruise control installation has begun The Weber is in - and working :) And most of the wiring is sorted... I have joined the TCCAV - and aim to get the car on club reg by the end of the year... Until then, will just continue to knock off the items on my list, until I'm happy :) Cheers
  25. WANT!!! What are the stats? susp/brakes....
