  1. Fellow rolla enthusiasts I have been encouraged to upgrade the suspension of my KE70 by a shock absorber snapping in two. Has anyone done this to a KE70 or AE71? Basically I just want my car to handle and of course to look phat. If anyone has done this with king springs and/or monroe shocks definately please reply to this post! These are the brands I want to use. Part numbers would also be helpful for reference if you did use these brands. Apart from that, any advice? If you suggest chopping the springs I will pretend you are a computer glitch and hit my moniter. :y: Hehe I like it how googling suspension and KE70 brings up a rollaclub hit first go.…

  2. Started by Ke50,

hello all, For those that don't know my name is tom. i have two KE50's which i am semi-rebuilding one of them. (3k from spare is for sale) Now a problem i have (I'm sure some other people have come across in their corolla endeavours) the tail light rubbers/gaskets are fairly perrished and ripped. Because of this i need to make up some new ones, i was wondering if anyone knew of a good way to do this besides that silicone gasket stuff which can get quite messy and look horrible if you don't do it propperly. I might also need to do this to the hatch hinges. Thanks in advance, Tom

I hate it when this happens............ After going for a drive in the ae92 this weekend, i noticed after moving it from sitting for a while there was a little spot of oil......... I lifted the bonnet to reveal that oil has started to come from around the distrubutor, and run down all over the other stuff. Its not drastic, but my girlfriend is freakin about it! I have heard this problem being talked about before, but i can't remember the outcome..... Any help would be great...... THANKS * Give me an Old Skool corolla anyday! :y:

First post here, but not a newbie to corolla on the net. Looks like this is the reason for oldcorolla email list's quiteness, so I'll move with the times and with a bit of luck I won't get nazy moderatored either (ah), Now I've had my bitch, I'll continue on. Got an engine that has low compression in all cylinders, but even in all. its got a good bit of pressure on the oil breather into the air filter. Idling you can cover oil breather and get a good hiss of build up. To give an indication, I reckon I could blo up ballons on oil breather ( not that I've tried, yet). The enngines an old toyota push-rod, so could it be blow through from the rings? Before you ask, …

ok, the '81-'82 starlet transmissions i've been using have been stamped "k51" or "K52" the genuine efi 4ke '83 trans is stamped "k61" the rpm drop between each gear on the k61 is identical in each gear incl. 5th; does this make it a trd trans? the rpm drop was the same in 1st and 2nd in the others, but 3rd-4th was WIDE and 5th was almost non-existant (300rpm?) all this was while running 4.10 rear gears and 195/70/13 tIres. so what do you think?

Hey guys, I've read around the place that a 4A GZE head will go onto a 7A FE, does this mean that other heads from the 4A series will go on there too? My plans at the moment are: Forged Pistons and Rods (I've seen the rods in these and they are like a gay mans wrist - quite limp) 20V Head. Ecu Port n Polish and other exhaust / induction type things. Balance the crank and maybe a bit of a boring out. and a lift in compression Know any stronger boxes I could use (like sportivo 6 speed or camry V6 5 Speed)? Now, all engine work like cams / heads / balancing can be done for free and all parts at cost price so I can get it done fairly cheap. Basical…

Righty-o, I've had starter motor issues in the Camry for a little bit, am on my 2nd starter motor now and this one has decided it doesn't want to play either. Anyway, decided to take one of them apart and have a look: The first problem is when I turn the key, I hear the solonoid go "click", and the lights dim etc, which tells me that the starter motor is getting power. Except, it doesn't turn. Nothing happens, it just sits there. I can fix this by repeatedly clicking the key on and off, and eventually it'll catch on and start. Second problem is once the car is actually started. It won't disengage the starter motor! It's almost as if it gets stuck …

Guys, Having this terrible squeaking sound coming from my boot. 1981 Corolla KE70. Think its the bar that holds the boot up. Whenever I drive, small movements of the car will cause it to squeak. My whole journey is filled with squeaking. Anyone encountered this before? Need some help before I break that bar. So what if it doesn't hold the boot up. Help! Just need it to stop squeaking!!! Hi, I'm Bill Buttermore from Ames, IA. I've been working on my own cars since 1966. I recently rescued a '91 Corolla with a 4A FE engine and a 5-spd manual transmission from my local junkyard. The engine was in many pieces, but the rest of the car is in pretty nice shape. I have pulled the engine and trans and want to change out the half shaft seals in the transaxle while I have the tranny out and up. But I can not find any information on what transaxle I have. I have the trans up on my hoist and the only ID I have found on it is a riveted metal tag that displays only the VIN. I searched this site, but found only reference to axle ratios referenced to…

A student where I work is an old Rolla fan and has a problem with one of his struts. After cutting his coils one strut has locked solid. There is no give at all. Just wondering if anyone has struck this before because I haven't. Both coils appear to be the same length and the car looks to be sitting level so I can rule out that one coil has been cut to much and the strut has bottomed out. Unless he hasn't installed the bump stop properly I don't know.\ :D

I guess the polyflex shit that is really expenssive would be the best option, but how much better would it be than nylon bushes? have anyone tryed making theyr own bushes out of nylon? or something similar? noise, vibration etc wouldn't be a problem, all I want is less wheel hop... hey all!! After a month of looking around for a new engine for my Ke30, I finally found one and was successful in changing my old 3k into a new 3k also. now it has a bigport head, TRD exhaust manifold, stock carb. (when I bought the engine it had twin down asians). had to change carbs because fuel here is very expensive. and now its running great!! now for the question, what should be the best gap for the contact point? i have tried the search button and I did not find any good results. OT: grimwolge, I still have the thing that you need, might ship it to you in about a week or two. thanks in advance for the replies.

hi, I was wondering how far up the temperature gauge the needle should go. I have taken off the original fan and put an electric one on instead because it was running cold. It used to take forever to heat up, so I replaced the thermostat with a tridon brand one which is the same 82C degree's as the original one. Now the needle sits halfway on the temp gauge, even with the fan on. I'm getting the radiator recored and hoping that this helps it to run a bit colder.

We have yet another problem since putting in the 7k. once the motor seems to have warmed every time you start getting past half throttle its like someones pulled the choke out. Ease up and it runs like shit till it's burnt off the extra fuel. A guy at motor improvments said he had the same problem and just put larger points. Has anyone else come across this before :jamie:

Took the air filter off and had a look down the carby, it was almost full to the top with fuel. The car was winding over like it had no compression at all so I just got it towed home till I had more time to look at it. Yesterday I've finally got around to taking a look. First thing I checked was timing belt which is fine. Did a compression test and it came up zero on all 4 cylinders, needle didnt even move. Can someone please tell me what is wrong with my 4KC, if I put more than half throttle down to try to catch up to traffic or to go faster off the lights I hear a ticking sound or something like that. The noise itself is kind of hard to hear over the diff and the driveshaft but it is there, my dad said he couldn't hear it so don't worry about it, it has me worrying though because I don't want to have to buy a new engine for it yet, I'm not ready to upgrade yet and I need a working car to get to and from work. Someone please help, the ticking noise has me worried about my KE70. Further info, it's a 1981 KE70 Corolla. Stock standard everything, with a 4KC engine.

Hey guys, just two quick questions i hope you can help me with! Firstly can anyone comment from experience what a 4k with a 3k head should run like with a 3k carbie bolted on to it. do they over fuel? fart miss etc? reason for question is after an enigne swap we've found that the 4k is running rough as (think it's mainly thanks to faulty points) but yet overfuels and blows smoke as a result in the higher end of the rev range. yet none at idle or during startup, which one would expect from worn valve seals or rings. What should the expected compression be cylinder to cylinder on the above setup be? roughly 120 psi on a used motor? any help would be…
