I had a quick look on amayama. Tube with seal is about $4.50 each, so actually about the same. 11191-22010 for the tube $3.56 90430-31141 for the gasket $1.00

What makes your mechanic think the internal drive gear is missing? Pretty bizarre thing to happen during a rebuild, and that nylon gear doesn't look like it's been out of that box in a while so I can't imagine how he has worked that out. Not sure if its the photo, but is the assembly in straight or at an angle? It sits in there with an O ring to seal it. If you undo the 10mm bolt and wriggle the assembly out with the driven nylon gear, you should be able to look in the hole and see if the drive gear is there. Speedo issues are generally simpler issues such as the cable at either end isn't properly engaged, or is snapped.

I also need to bite the bullet. Have three cheapo ones lying about the shed, plus the three separate handles as the handle from each is specific and I never fail to grab the wrong one then search high and low for either the right handle, or the right jack for the handle I have. I think that makes sense. But especially I need one that is low enough to come in from the side, as I generally have to raise the car a little with a scissor jack to get the trolley jack underneath. What's this one like for overall height KE70dave? Plus if spending a bit more coin, you would want to be able to get it serviced if required. Bahco a good brand?

That's awesome.

Here are the other relevant ones for most of us. Don't assume a listing means the screen is available. Just a reference regarding sizes. i.e the KE15 screen was NLA when I downloaded this quite some years ago.

Buying and fitting the engine realistically is the easiest and cheapest part of the process. It gets expensive and harder after that with the myriad other items that need to be bought and fabricated. To make it run and stop without breaking anything else. Even with just a 4age. Research hard, and start saving

Answer is no, they are different. if I can work out how to print screen on this work computer, I'll post up the page from the PGI windscreen catalogue
-
Don't make us read it. What's your interpretation?
-
Some guys on one of the faceplant pages were talking about getting some of these made. This is a scan of mine for measurement purposes they asked for. Better to post it here and link it, than have it disappear into the ether on there. If you print in A4 it should be actual size. If it isn't right, let me know and I'll redo it

That's fantastic! I had assumed it would be like Geelong sprints which is boring as hell other than walking around looking at the cars.

Did you enter? It looks like a fun way to get some competition without the risk of someone banging doors with you.

I think people have had problems as they have been supplied with the later inserts. I'm not sure what the listings for Aw11's show, but I suspect you are right. Probably something you would be wanting to order through a specialist suspension business who know what they are doing rather than your generic parts business. As we have seen with other things, parts listings provided by aftermarket suppliers can have glaring errors too. Would be great if someone who has successfully installed these apparent early inserts could list a part number for reference.
-
The AW11 inserts are discussed in one of the threads referenced above, but apparently only a particular early model AW11 insert fits

One of the more satisfying jobs on an engine in my opinion. That and twirling mixture / idle screws on carbs. I wonder if anything produced these days still has tappets?
-
That's ok. You are allowed to be new! A K50 is the five speed that came factory behind later K engined cars. It uses a cable clutch. T50's were fitted to 70's Celica's, T18's and AE71/AE86's. All of these use a hydraulic clutch slave There was a pretty rare T50 that came with a K engine bell housing, but no need to go there
-
Essentially there are 3 types of T50 box. Which one you use is dependent primarily on the engine you will be using, and then what car it will be installed in
-
I don't pretend to understand all this - at all! Is it a modern way of running multiple coils or some such to magnify the zap in the spark? Is it necessary to use an ECU to time the spark, or can it be done manually of the dizzy?
-
It also helps if you just add rollaclub into your search term, such as "KE30 axle rollaclub" That will bring up a whole heap of results from rollaclub posts Try doing that on facebook! Look forward to hearing more about your car.

Great photos!

Suggestion on Toymods FB page that this Micky Scuteri guy is active again, if he ever really went away.

If you take out the thermostat you can give the engine a thorough flush out with a garden hose. It wouldn't hurt to put some sort of radiator flush through first as it may loosen some of the scale and crap, that you can then hose out once it cools down. Radiators are usually pretty long lived, so if it isn't leaking, it should go on for ages yet. Can run into problems if channels have got blocked off, but again a good vigorous flush from top and bottom will hopefully clear things out. When the engine is hot, you can carefully place your hand against the front of the radiator and see if there are any cold areas suggesting coolant isn't getting to those areas. Don't be too rough with it. Many a good engine (including my wife's old 4AC in a previous AE82) has been done in by a burst hose, usually miles from home. It's cheap insurance to replace them. Don't use silicon hoses as they can be a problem to seal sometimes. Whatever you can't find on ebay, just get it from Toyota. It may be slightly more expensive, but it will fit first time. Much stuff can be found on ebay these days via the part whoesale places, and you can actually get replacement radiators through repco. If you need one, may be worth pricing a new replacement with them first before trying a cooling place. Give it a go, it isn't hard.

And at least from he two old threads you have evidence that the Golf inserts will actually fit
-
I'd laugh but I'm not much further either. You would reckon that if a Golf insert fits, surely there would be an adjustable option available somewhere. I'd be asking Golf specialists in Germany or UK. When I put the short body MR2 inserts in the front of my AE86 I used the technotoytuning spacers that double as the top nut. This places the insert low down in the strut body to reduce the possibility of bottoming out the piston. I'd reckon some one of your skill and ingenuity could make something up like that, as long as you can find the right insert.
