  1. Once you have taken all of the paint off (i prefer paint stripper), i recommend buying a purple scotch brite pad, they take no metal off at all but polish it nicely ready for etch.
  2. Yeh i learnt the hard way! Here they are, bloody big though!
  3. Why fj20? do you already have one? It would possibly be legal as a non turbo, a 4a would be a whole lot more practical for the old girl as they are about half the size!
  4. It is easy to shorten the handbrake, it is good to hear that your motor is mounted close to the firewall, as alot of people don't and it looks/handles bad. Cut the grip off. Pull the button out. hacksaw the end off. push the button back in, mine just seemed to go in and stay in and adjust the cable under the car (directly under the handbrake) As for the grip, i couldnt get it to go back on so i don't have one, it still looks and works fine.
  5. Man did you search? You can use the speedo drive off an older datsun gearbox to convert it back to a cable speedo. eg. bluebird Get a custom throttle cable made, mine cost $50
  6. My opinion is don't do it! Turbo sizing is an art. to start with the ratio between exhaust housing size is very wrong, On a diesel you will often find a rear housing that is suitable for a 3lt petrol matched to a compressor suitable for a 1.8 petrol. Have you heard of a hi-flow, this is the opposite. You are also forgetting that small things like the external and internal size of the compressor wheel inside the same scroll size can change spool time by even 1000rpm. Basically if you were to use a diesel turbo on your 3t, the setup will be laggier, and make less power overall than the $100 you could have spent on a cheap petrol turbo. I know its been done 100 times and works fine every time, but 'what could have been' in almost every case is not realized that my 2cents antways
  7. Awesome ride man, vans are super cool. Sounds like shes pretty much there with the tune, a fuel pump wont cost much, and another 100 on the dyno and it will run and rev like a dream! keep us posted
  8. Holy crap mick that looks awesome! Big $$$$$$$ i bet! Evo lancers run an IC spray from factory so it must be a good thing
  9. I have a pro comp CSI to help the coil out, i have been through the theory, and a dizzy 'in theory', can cope.
  10. thanks brad, i was pretty damn impressed with his work, i told him i didnt want a too big plenum, i think he got it spot on. The angle of the inlet is good too, because it wont force the air into the first two cylinders. As for the single coil, i personally don't believe there is a limit, i recon its a myth, you will know i was wrong though if you suddenly see me using four coils!
  11. Thanks man, ive got a few things done, i now have my 25 rego'd so now that i have a car to drive progress is about to speed up a whole lot  I got the floor all cleaned up, and sprayed it in etch primer. I have also been busy paint stripping my dash, i had this restored by dashboard restorations in brissy for a pricey sum of $400, It took about 4 or 5 months and the paint had broken out in cracks all over it :no2: This is a very long and tedious process I finally called round to the fabricator and picked up my plenum, it turns out his tig was playing up, so the welds werent that flash, so i hand filed them off smooth. Ive also been hard at work on the body work this week too, but have nothing to show yet. :y:
  12. hey Teddy, please keep us informed of future events, real keen, just had no car to drive for this one!
  13. They would hit your struts by about 20mm, ....some people run spacers. That tyre is too huge as well. try this: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
  14. I secound that! the first one lasted a year and a half, the second 3 months. If anyone wants to do this i can measure the sr exhaust port spacings for you to make sure. :)
  15. Hes probably looking at the chassis number rather than the vin no.
  16. Finally got time to put a couple on, two of them are about 2 years old when i first got my car going without the turbo. One is from last years powercruise, damn rain!
  17. Good to hear them tyres are working so well, i have a set exactly the same i can't wait to try. 12.07, so close to an 11 you can taste it. :( Last time i went down there the lineup was about 5 cars deep, the time before that it went right around the corner, you never can tell if its gonna be a good night to race or not :(
  18. commo run a 13mm head, most jap stuff is 11mm. Gti-r pulsar are 440 as well, they seem to pop up pretty cheap? I would probably try to stick to 11mm tops, just cos theres more options that way.
  19. Just going off the picture i would use some tinsnips to cut away the rusted area to find solid metal, cut out in a square manner so that it is easier to patch later, you may have to cut the whole corner off if the rust is to that extent. once you are satisfied that there is only good metal remaining, grab an old bonnet, or what have you, and cut a piece out for donor metal. If the hole you had to cut is fairly small you can often trim the donor metal to fit perfectly in the hole, then weld it in - no overlapping, butt welding is a must if you don't want rust to come back. If you had to cut a lot off, it is sometimes easier to cut two sides to shape, and tack the piece in place, then bend the metal to shape, and trim it off once it is in place. an oxy would help greatly with bending some of those curves too if you have access to one. Then once it is all tacked in, finish weld it.
  20. Man, she seems to be not too bad so far, for the lower brace, put a wanted ad up for a donor one off another car thats in good nick. Get them to grind it off and post it to you if possible, then probably unpick the spot welds to get the lower half of the brace off your car, Unpick the bit you need off the donor piece then re-weld the new one in.
  21. ^^^^^^man you should have bought a 4x4 if you want to get serious about off-road. perhaps you should try this forum Yeh they are aren't they.
  22. If only, give me about 4 months........and a whole lot of money :P
  23. Thats looks cool! How much do they charge?
  24. Looks like fun anyway man, it would have taken alot of self control to stay on the track :P Is it just me or do you always have different wheels on?
