How To Set Up An Engine For A 3k Big Port Head
jamesrolla replied to casey's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
i put one on my old 4k, all i did was take the 4k head off, i did a rough valve regrind in my shed at home, sanded all the faces down, put new gaskets on and slapped the 3k bigpot head on with the 4k rocker gear because the 3k stuff was seized, works well for me but now i just have to tune my newest addition to the car which is a 40mm dellorto, made a lot of diffrence to drive it now, lost soe down low but got more up top -
i have the front valance here, actualy i think there might be 2, i will check tomorrow but I'm pretty shore that i have one, will get back asap cheers james
-
i had ford escort retractables in the front of both my ke20's and they bolted straight in, in my ke11 you can't put them in because the bold is on the floor instead of on the side so ive got a manuel one in the passengers side and a 4 point harness in the drivers side

that head didnt sell i think, it had gemini valves in it, it was started at $500 but no one bid on it, you could contact the owner somehow, he is in devenport, he also had a ke10 forsale cheers james

got my new 2" exhaust and lukey muffler connected up today and I'm having my tyre fixed because it leaks, should be ready for the two shannons runs near the end of this year, will get some pics soon, I'm very happy with the exhaust, i got it done by bellerive suspension and exhaust and the guy mad it so it pulls apart into 4 pieces and it goes under the gearbox cross member instead of through and it doesnt vibrate the shit out of the car, sounds nice to :( should have everything sorted soon, its just little things stopping it from going back on the road again cheers james

its a CMI event and entries are filling up very quickly

i have a ke20 borg diif in mine and i just cut and re welded the spring mounts into the right spot, i kept blowing ke10 diffs even with my 4k but you might need something a bit stronger, you could try a mazda diff or a mazda e series comercial diff because they are the same stud pattern on some of them, my mate with his ke11 20valve has a ta22 diff in his with an LSD centre and he said that it hasnt been shortend at all, its just had the brackets moved and he runs superlite wheels and he has about 2" bolt on flares but the wheels are in the flares enough cheers james

my old ke38 CS had a 5 speed and it was factory, it has a borg warner diff.. whats the ratio of these????

you could do what i did when i put a 32/36 on, i just cut the old steele ones and i got a hose clamp and put some rubber hose on instead, ive never had any trouble from it

i think he means he has one of the ke70's with the slant fronts and he also has an ae71 and he wants to put a t50 on the back of his 4kc in the ke70.. it might fit but i don't know, you would probably need the t50 cross memeber and all the pedals and slave cylinder shit etc... you might have to redrill some stuff to make it bolt on the back but i can't tell you wether it will fit because i have never done it before, if it works i would like to know because i have a couple of t50's here and i might stick one on the back of my 4k cheers james

Dan is right about the 3k/4k thing and ke36 is the ke3* series van wagon and ke38 is the ke55 series of the wagon but i don't know if it came out in panel van i think it was just a 4 door wagon i have found a ke26 sitting in a paddock but the owner wont sell it :)

is what you need is an austin healy sprite or an mg midget, they are class AR and you can go for lots of engine combos, datsun toyota morris and most parts are interchangeable with austin a30's so most stuff isnt to dear for them , we are in the process of building a sprite MK 2A at the moment powered by a datsun 1200 A12 motor with a 4 speed box, they turn like nothing else and go around very well on the hand brake P.S brockys A30 wasnt powered by a grey motor it had a 179 and A30's are an Austin sprite with a four door car body over the top basically so they are a lot different to morris minors cheers james

when i was pricing extractors for my rolla carline were second dearest, tas exhaust and muffler ware house wanted $450 because they said that they would have to custom make them because they were no longer avaliable for ke10's, i told them that i had just got 3 other prices from other people that said they could get them 4 me, did you go and see bellerive exhaust and muffler warehouse in electra place mornington near oceana, they were the cheapest, but i fitted my own so i don't know how much extra it would cost to have them fitted, i put the extractors on a few weeks ago and i couldnt belive how small the gap was that they had to fit through and they went right through the gap with a couple of cm's to spare on either side, sounds cool though cheers james

how is a little bit of camber achived on a ke10??? is there any sort of Lower control arm that can give it camber that is a straight fit or will it require custom stuff?? and what sway bar will fit in the front out of another car? will a ke20 one fit or something of ke20 length will a rear swaybar from something else fit either any help appreciated but i don't really want to spend much cash cheers james

the engie I'm my ke11 came from a ke55 and did 100,000 in that and the went into my ke20 and was on its third time around on the clock but i don't know what the k's were on it when i got it and now its in my ke11 and the 2 and a bit years and we have never changed the oil or filter and it gets driven pretty hard it might be time for a home service :lock_folder:

i fixed my lifting wipers with those coo, 70's style plastic fin/blade things that clip onto the wiper arms, they actually work suprisisingly, if you looks at the late 60's and 70's bathurst cars they have upto 3 sets of these per wiper arm :jamie: try 180k's in a datto 1600 at 8000 rpm, its fun :) cheers james

i run 1:17's in my datto 1600 which only has and internally stock L16 with twin webers extractors, 2" zorst and an electronic dizzy. it need some tyres though as i was only running old 15" road tyres at the time, not much good for the track but i now have brand new yokohama advans and 14" wheels for it, it need a locked diff to (its only open at the moment) i ran 1:28's in my dead stock mini 1100 with drum brakes all around, it was very slow and would only get to about 125k's down the back straight before i had to start breaking but it was my first race car and my first clubday ever. anybody got some Baskerville times??? i clocked a 1.11 there a few months back on road tyres, hoping to improve my times a bit when i put the yokohama advans on her and give it a run cheers james
-
it was a $500 head and it had SOHC gemini walves, it was full house but it would have made a little K motor scream cheers james
-
yeah its not to bad seen as it only runs and L16 4 speed with twin webers and a big zorst, when i did the 1.17 it was my first tima at symmons in the datto and it was on old road tyres and only running premium unleaded, its a real fun car there is an Mini multiclub day on the 20th of august at basky and an MG one that I'm goin to in october, i will post up dates and a link to the sup regs closer to the event cheers james
