  1. I’ll try and get measurements for you tomorrow. The sway bar issue isn’t an issue if you let Todd Selby know you need the sway bar for a disc brake front and get him to make it to slightly different measurements Scroll down to the end of the thread. I think it was Tommyske11 who gave me these pics
  2. https://www.rollaclub.com/wiki/index.php?title=Lowering_KE1x_Front_using_KE2x_parts There are supposedly some thinner AW11 inserts, at least in the interweb talk. Not sure anyone has found them though. I have some KE1x inserts if you need measurements
  3. Japan is the home of cup holders. Super autobacs basically have an entire row devoted to them. A good place to check out in Australia if you have one in the area, is Daiso. The big decision is whether you are prepared to drill or not......
  4. Take the plugs out and start again, and make sure the clearances are tight.
  5. General Mechanical sub forum KE Corolla Discussion
  6. Found them. Unfortunately only a pair
  7. Yup. Welcome to yahoo Japan! There are clearly some sellers who work on large volumes and bargains can be had for those who are patient. Generally a wider range in sizes you need that what you will find here. There was a guy with some nice 110's in Tassie on one of the Corolla/Toyota pages but he was trying to swap for 114.3 rather than sell. Could always see if he will sell
  8. Don't throw it away. Nothing to be gained by doing so, and it is part of emissions. Instant canary if you get pulled over
  9. You're making me cry now. There does seem to be a few decrepit KE55's around still though isn't there?
  10. I put a mocal thermostat controlled set up with a setrab cooler in my AE86. They used to have an incredibly informative catalogue you could download with detailed information about setups, and a very helpful technical department. Edit: a cursory look at the current website doesn't appear to show the printed manual/part listing, but still an informative FAQ, that addresses a number of you questions. http://www.mocal.co.uk/ocfaq.html when you click on each category in their product range, further tech can be viewed
  11. Once upon a time I would make regular pickapart runs in the hope I would come across one of my models. Didn't happen often, in fact hardly at all. Haven't seen a KE1x or KE 2x for quite some years, and have only ever seen one AE86. .Yet when I saw one, I would mercilessly strip out anything remotely useful. Down to the nuts and bolts. Now I have a good stash to get me through. These days, it pays to keep a close eye on the for sales and wrecking threads here. You can also look at stock online and even photos of the cars at pickapart or centre Rd wreckers if you are in Melbourne. As mentioned, the usual auction sites, but best of all you need to build up contacts, and on here is a good place to do that. The key thing is, you have to be patient!
  12. And thanks for coming back and letting everyone know! Rarely happens, so when you perform a search, you never know what the outcome was.
  13. Use one of the importers and container shipping can be pretty cheap. Be patient, there may be nothing decent or cheap for a while, then bang, there they are. Also be careful with your sizing/offset. I have some nice Enkies in 13's, and two sets of Weds Albinos in 14's. None more than about $350 - 400 landed. Obviously cheaper without tyres fitted. A good importer will ask questions for you.
  14. Looks great Harry. Just move the wheels on, it's not worth the hassle, and I'm sure you will find something you like even better that fits. Yahoo Japan is a really good place to buy wheels in the size you need at very reasonable prices. You would be surprised how cheap, especially if you are prepared to be a little patient and wait for the right wheels at the right price.
  15. I don't know what to say
  16. Went to the Como car show run by rotary on the weekend hoping to see a certain KE10, but unfortunately the only Jap cars there were a 280Z (which doesn't count), and a Mark II Corona with the bonnet down. Why take your car to a car show if you are going to leave the bonnet down? And who wants to look at a Tesla? Some nice Renault 4's with engine covers up, and some nice RT chargers, again bonnet down! And bull creek aircraft museum, what an absolute highlight!
  17. I thought you wet a poor destitute student!
  18. Those guys in Melbourne https://performanceignition.com.au/
  19. Perhaps a bit extreme pulling down a well functioning carb the day after you get it. Id suggest changing all the oils, new filters and points and adjusting the tappets! Then when you get keen, replace the points with electronic ignition. You will love it and learn a lot as you tinker. We're here if you get stuck.
  20. Find a car with the best body you can. The mechanicals are easy. Then get yourself a full set of preferably factory manuals and learn as you go. Initially have fun fixing whatever needs fixing, but do bear in mind not to spend too much if you think you might like to modify things one day. But really, standard replacement mechanical parts are cheap and readily accessible. There is also a great deal of info on the site here. Look at other build threads, have fun using the search function, and ask away when you get stuck, or need inspiration. They really are great cars!
  21. Here is a very brief start. https://www.rollaclub.com/wiki/index.php?title=Tech:Engine/A_Series/A-Series_Engine_FAQ 16 valve 4AGE's are pretty long in the tooth these days, but then a 20 valve isn't exactly young either. There are various issues with fitting the various engines in a RWD format, 16 valve simpler, 20 valve a little more complicated. The hardest bit is sourcing the various parts, and then wiring it up so it works properly. Many people bodge the last bit and are left with a pig. Bolting in the engine is the easy bit. There is a mass of info on here. Have a look at some of the ride threads, and once you have a good idea of which way you want to go, get more specific using the search function. I would have thought that $1000 for a smallport is probably double what I would want to pay for a complete engine with good compression, including the loom and ecu. Make sure you get the coil/ignitor and the sensors with it.
  22. Ha! I typed in 'that' word and thought , "hang on a minute", but elected to leave it there. One of the many things I love about this site! Yes, I did hear the car I mentioned went to Perth. Apparently as a first car for the guy's daughter? Strange choice for a first car in this day and age, I would have thought. Do you know anything further regarding the US story? There was another went to the UK quite a few years ago now, and I know the one I bought was close to being sold to the UK also.
  23. A few years ago now, but a good friend of mine listed a overrated all original KE15 on Shannon's which is the Australian auction house for interesting cars. It sold for something like $AUD1250. And doubtless virtually everyone in the room sniffed and looked the other way and had a bit of a manly giggle. They were there for big Healey's, Cooper S mini's, Falcon's, Mustangs, Toranas and Monaro's. And investment number plates..... He misread the market, where it would most likely have done substantially better on ebay. But most people are sheep and can't look outside convention or what they think their friends will approve of. The costs of restoration if you have it done professionally mean the cars mentioned are unlikely to turn a worthwhile profit unless you have the skills to do everything yourself. These are enthusiasts cars for people who like getting their hands dirty and don't care what others think. If I go out socially and people get wind that you are into cars, their eyes soon glaze over once they hear the word Corolla. They want to hear Porsche, Alfa, Ford or Holden. Having said that, I've been into these cars for very many years, and sourcing parts over that period. There is no doubt the price trend is very definitely way up for TE27 and early Celica parts, and that's clearly based on prices in Japan where there is an appreciation of these cars. Elsewhere, not enough people know what they are. So those in it for profit I think are in it for the wrong reason.
  24. I see your posts on JNC. I also follow various faceplant pages mainly for possible leads on parts. However I only rarely contribute to any discussion on any of those sites. Usually when I get frustrated.... I think the value of early cars such as KE1x and KE/TE2x, and the first couple of generations of Celica's are appreciating rapidly, for some reason Corona's are not following the trend. But the pool of actual buyers willing to pay out those prices is pretty small. Your car is done to a high standard and will always pull a higher price - if there is someone out there willing to pay it. i.e. the cashed up hard core you mention. I also think there is a group in the US actively trying to rationalise the inflated value of said cars and parts. People can ask what they like, but if there is no one or only one person willing to pay that price, you may need to wait a while to actually receive it. I'm not saying you are one of that group by the way. Mind you, they have every right to do so. So yes, I think the values are increasing, but the buyer pool isn't necessarily growing with it, so those in the pool can be choosy.
  25. I once walked into Keebles (legendary bolt shop in the city) and said to the guy, "I need the water pump bolts for an 1100 Escort", guy walks off before I even finished speaking. Hmm, that's a bit rude I think to myself. 5 mins later he's back with the exact bolts, and from memory, at least 3 of them were different sizes. And if you try telling the children of today that, they wouldn't believe you. "Unfortunately", the future Mrs Parrot subsequently wrote off her poxy Escort and replaced it with a KE20. If you don't get an answer by tomorrow, I'll go out and measure them.
