I just got my waterpump put in and my AE86 is running cooler but, the guy that installed it said that the copression ratio is off and that i might have a blown head casket. and he wants 425 to put one in. is this a task i can do with the haynes manual and do it myself. and what is the copression ratio and what does it mean.

I'm considering having a TRD supercharger installed (cost about $3500 plus cost of an aftermarket ecu) anyway i was wondering if anyone here had gone down the same track and if so what with a turbo or s/charger. Whats peoples opions on supercharging and turbos (what do you recommend for the 1ZZ-FE engine) ? Being a considerable some of money i want to be confindent that i made that right choice when i do go through with it. Thanks

This is mainly aimed at Paul, as he has alot of experience in this area with setup and so forth. But anyone and everyone please give your opinions. Basically i am looking for something low and stiff. Isnt everyone? hahaha. I have a pair of short stroke TRD front shocks here but nothing for the rear. I want to go on the cheap, but not dodgy cheap. One of my main questions is are coilovers really necessary in the front? I mean if you get custom springs made up, using 400ish lb springs, the suspension isnt going to be moving very much and wouldnt that keep the spring captive? So my first dilemma is coilovers or not in the front. Second is what to use in the rear. Garage …

Hey all Ok, so ive got another weird idea, lets see how QLD transport likes this one :doublebird: Ok, my idea is this. To what i know, the coldest air (when a vehicle is moving) - flows up over the bonnet, and spirals/curls around the bottom of the front windscreen. (top pic) Is it legal if you cut a hole large enough to fit a medium sized pod filter through the top of the fire wall - so that its in the area where the air is sucked in from the outside and into the cabin / where the mechanism is for the window washers (bottom pic) This way you can have a really short intake pipe, and it would be away from the hot exhaust :P

  6. Started by stock_rolla,

Ive been doing a bit of work to me car this week (points, plugs, distributer, air filter), and ive noticed that when I'm about 60-70km/h, i can smell fumes, but only with a window down. I'm not running a standard air box and filter. What would be causing this?

What's up fellas. I'm a honda guy and new to this toyota thing. I'm about to buy a '74 corolla. (I think it's called a ke20?) and I want to know if TRD makes parts for it. For that matter, are there any aftermarket racing parts for this car? Re there common swaps for this car........I had visions of a 2jz in there....... Also, are there replacement body panels etc. for this car? It's a Canadian car and has seen some winters. Any help would be appreciated.

hello. I am looking for a diff for my ke55 rally car and was wondering if you could help me out. I am after a diff that is about 4.5:1 or 4.7:1 or there abouts. limited slip would be good but not essential at this time. i currently have the standard(?) 4.1 in there at the moment and the car definately has lost acceleration compared to the previous 4.3 (which i broke) which was also not the greatest for acceleration. The corolla has the 2t motor and 5 speed gear box and runs on 14 inch 4 stud rims with drums on the rear. Any help on what diffs fit in to the ke55 or what has to be done to make them fit would be most appreciated. Thanking you in advance. …

Just wandering around the Internet today, I stumbled across the Nevo website and noticed that they have "underdrive pulleys". The 4AGE ones are 15% underdrive on the crank and 10% underdrive on waterpump and alternator, while Bill Sherwood's ones special ones are standard crank, and very large others. I can understand putting smaller pulleys on the pump & alternator if you expect to be doing high revs a fair bit, but what's the advantage of underdriving the crank pulley?

Does anyone know of any workshops/people/cousins/brothers/etc who are good at working 4AGE engines? The only person I know who knows lots about 4AGE's is Anthony Kellam, but I don't know if he knows much about working them... Bill Sherwood seems to know a lot, but he's not really someone easy to get a hold of... I'm just looking for direction as to where to go with my engine... (which probably won't go anywhere for awhile due to zero funds, but would be nice to know where I could go if I did have some funds!)

  13. Hey My friend has a ke70.. and he wants more power.. he's using the 4k engine, and I've heard 3k heads gives better compression what has to be done to fit the 3k head, and which 3k heads are best, does it matter at all which 3k head we use? Have been thinking about my suspension, and what I can do to maybe make the car easier to drive, and talking to a few people who would probably know what they are talking about, and one thing that could be wrong with the current set up is maybe the rear shocks aren't really up to the job. They are currently standard KE35 KYB's. The car, however, is a little heavier (cage), the diff is heavier (Celica) and the springs a fair bit stiffer (approx 200lb), so perhaps the KYB's aren't really valved for all that... Will be getting the car back on the shock dyno early next year so I guess I'll find out then. I've heard rumours that Commodore shocks are a suitable replac…

Right, spent lots of time welding yesterday, and I now have a diff full of boiled diff oil, and some brackets to bolt my handbrake cable set up to. All good, I think. The only thing left to be done to get the mechanical handbrake to work, as far as I can tell, is to shorten the handbrake cables... Any ideas what would be the best/cheapest way to do it?

Just checked the free length of all my valve springs on my 4KC before I do a head recon this week. The good book says they should be 46.5mm free length. Mine are all over the place, between 44.8 & 45.9mm Me thinks I should fit a new set. Where's a good place in Brisbane to pick up a new set of std 4KC valve springs, without making my local Toyota guy richer. Maybe someones got a new standard set in a box lying around that they have never used, who would like to part with them for some green stuff. PM me & I will arrange the transaction. Other thing I'm after, but can't locate, is the rear leaf spring separator or isolator/insulation. …

I plan on doin it up as a tough streter but also want it to run a not to shabby time down the quarter. I'm just after ideas on what would fit in with minimal hassel and are leaning toward a SR20DET from a GTi-R or a 3S-GTE form a late model MR2. As well as goin faster i want it to stop on a dime so some help would be great there and also handle like a go kart as much as possible. Any help would be great as I'm new to the wors od corollas and you all know more than me. thanks a bunch.

How is it do drive with in high speed? 100-160km/h I just tryed it at a snowy parking place, drifting around.. so don't know how it is at higher speeds?

Righty-o. Brought diff center in to Diff Lapping today, Steve took one glance at it (wasn't even a big glance, if I had even blinked I would have thought he didn't even look) and the verdict is, in very technical terms: "mate, it's farked. Can't do anything with it, you need new gears" So yes, picked up a spare diff yesterday, don't know what ratio (forgot to check) but if it's the correct ratio I'm hoping to use those gears with my "LSD" center. Cost to swap gears at shop: $60. Spoke to someone today about swapping the gears, they recon it's a "piece of piss" job, and that as long as I'm using the same gears together (ie pinion and crown etc) and I torque it …

I have a 5k with just a bit of work done to it, 85hp at rear wheels at 7500rpm in a KE30 2dr sedan. I recently broke a valve spring as the cam has a lot of lift. Fitted new double springs with about 100lb seat pressure but chewed a lifter straight away. Replaced all lifters and runs ok again but to save the hasle of hydraulic lifters i want to change to solids. I know i have to have to cam hardened and that chev solid lifters will fit and pushrods i will change for 1 piece items of the required length. My question is: will the adjustable rockers from a 3k or 4k fit on the shaft of the 5k? I've been told that i might make an extra 10hp and an extra 500pm to be 95hp at 8000…
