I like the "S" thing. I used to he the coolest kid in school based on how many of them i had on my books. Note: Based on all other available "coolness" metrics i was right down on the coolness list.

I bought some knock off side indicators for my ke70 back in the day. They faded and cracked within 1 year. just cheap shit. Better off finding some decent OEM ones. They will be 40yrs old and a good chance they will still not be significantly faded.

nice little write up. you should start a blog! It is pretty cool how much car you can get for so little money brand new. 13:1 is fairly insane. So it is a normal H pattern manual but it has that rev matching feature? can one turn that feature off to enable full potatoes race mode requiring accurate heal toeing?

its very.........blue. What you think of the car? fun to drive?

Where abouts do you live? With really old stuff i always get the standards suffed master cylinder modified with stainless steel sleaves and pistons. better than new, and not that expensive. Master cylinder exchange in Wynnum Brisbane is where i go, but of course depends on your location. im sure other people do it though.

Panel beating is insanely difficult. Just when you think you have fixed the dent you step back and you've made it 8x worse.

Well 1995 i was like 8yrs old. whats your excuse altezza? :P

The only concern ive always had is that insulation traps moisture. So on a car that is driven every day its fine, but on a car that is rarely driven i would potentially be hesitant to insulate from a corrosion point of view. But i think in reality it would take years to be a problem.

So what you are telling me is that i shouldn't buy a family car. I should buy a 911 turbo.

In terms of money, to build what you suggest i would guess approximately $10k just in parts and outsourced fabrication. and about 13k total finish it off completely. Sounds like a money pit to me:) So if you got the ke30 for 2-3k, You are getting very close to $20k by the time you have done it all properly. I love corollas as much as the next guy, but a properly built 4age ke30 is still a 4age ke30. If it were me, and i wanted a 4age corolla and i had a few dollars in my pocket, id buy a ke70 with all the things already done. 4age, diff, suspension etc. prolly get one for 5k or so these days that needs some loving. Strip it down, paint and rebuild it so its in working order. You might be in 10k by then. half price and alot less effort. and apart from looking like a shoe box is arguably the better car in terms of mechanics. Coil springs, rack and pinion, ease of parts from the ae86 that just bolt in, no fabricating or modifying things. but then my name is ke70dave, not ke30dave ;) This is a little on the expensive side, but if that has an LSD in it and you could get it for say 6-7k then you are well on your way. https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/kilmore/cars-vans-utes/corolla-ke70-4ag/1200132887

I just read the whole thread again, ahh what a fun story.

holy moly that looks bright. I reckon you might need to be Corey Hart to drive that at night.

You're gonna need an angle grinder, followed by an engine crane and finish off with a welder. If this guy can fit an LS1, you can fit a 1uzfe:) https://www.whichcar.com.au/features/ls-l98-powered-1978-toyota-ke30-corolla

it looks rather professional. nicely done. I should buy a tig.

Even 195 50 R15 semi slicks with a quick steering rack wasnt that bad on my ke70. I wouldn't be too quick to add power steering given the effort involved. Its generally ok without it.

Probably a jdm ae86 power steering rack connected to a sr20 power steering pump.

They've done quite well those mighty car blokes. Good on them.

wiring Need help wiring sr20det Into ke55 corolla
ke70dave replied to NathanKEnut's topic in Car Electrical
Lets not get a head of ourselves here. what is all this diahatsu fuse box business. don't need to be that complicated. SR20 looms are very easy to wire in, they wire them into anything and everything. I cannot recall the specifics, you are going to need to do your own research and study wiring diagrams. but there will be a few grounds to connect to to the engine/body, a constant power and switched ignition wire to the ECU. Do this using the OEM corolla wiring as much as you can. afterall there was already an ignition relay and fuse box in the corolla, just use this one. You are going to need to install a new relay for the fuel pump, and there is an output on the ECU for the fuel pump. You need to research how to wire up a relay and find the output to the ecu to switch it on. Make sure you istall a fuse. Realistically that should get the engine started. -
Well its amazing how time flies. Not going to lie, done nothing to this car apart from driven it 300km/week without an issue... I've done some refining of the tune but to be honest i think ive gotten it pretty damn good (fuel only at this stage). My record fuel economy is 8.7L/100km now which is slightly better than i had gotten wtih OEM. I reckon i can afford to remove some more fuel on cruise but for now its fine. My brother drive the car the other day and he coudlnt find any hickups in the tune, so ill call it good for the time being. Littleredspirit was kind enough to post me an AU falcon idle air control valve, same as he used on his 2azfe. Ive got the fittings for that but i still havent had a change to install it yet. I also bought a set of LS1 coils to wire in. 8 coils for $60. bargain. Ive just bought myself a 2003 impreza as a daily drive, so once i pick that up i will have the ability to do some significant work on the ol' bmw. My wiring install needs some tidying up and the coils and idle control valve installed. Hoping to sort out an LSD and suspension in the near future. Though painting the car is likely to be up there too (mainly cause its quite cheap compared to buying parts...) And i'm having thoughts of adding a turbo....but thats a while off id say. As suspected life is getting in the way of playing with cars....

Well all things considered you couldn't really have asked for a better police experience. Same old story, if you try your best to keep things legal and you arent a fool when questioned the police will generally be very good.

Which one of these flannelette clad petrol heads is you Altezza?

My bmw 6clr engine has a 2 piece exhaust gasket and a 3 (!!) Piece inlet gasket. But cross flow engine so somewhat acceptable. I spent a good few hrs cursing at the 2 piece setup on the 4k back in the day. I never did change to 1 piece but that looks like a superiour setup that is for sure.

I would bypass bursons and go to a proper bearing and seals shop....who bursons are probably ringing....BSC or one of those guys. I got all my bmw seals this way, so cheap too.

I had a drive of a new ford mondeo something (work car) and it had the radar based cruise control. Absolutely bloody brilliant! Probably the best new car feature i have experienced. hows the interior on these things? is it an improvement over the last few corollas? where it feels like the inside of a plastic milk bottle? 18" wheels on a corolla, who would have thought:)
