A car this old rust is the only killer .Where they rust under the battery holder front rail and front cross member ( under radiator) Also spare wheel well ,around boot rubber,rear wheel arch, rear quarters, rear window,if it doent have rust here must be the only one. K engines will most likely go for ever. rob

I ve done two so far ,the first one i used hyper pak,which work well. Manifold can be bought at redline or weber performance melb. I use dcoe 40 as stock engine,was told if going to cams or more compression to go for 45 s. The one on the stand atm is basicly the same,but being a tight ass i was going to try get 4ac ignition to work not sure yet still playing. You can buy the bungs to block your injectors ,i found these rubbish to big hit the inlet manifold. So i taped out the holes to m12x1.75and used some hex bolts. As for jetting i can't remember have it written down ,i will let you no when i find them.

I would say that a truck brake would be on fire after an hour. You,ve only got ride them a little and they start smelling. What about in board wet disc off a front end loader??

don't no of many trucks with that set up any more ,could try volvo had some sort of drive line retarded. Mostly on log trucks. Mostly all went to copy of jacob engine brake,,the only one that would lock the drive wheels on wet road. The retarders where really not that good then even more usless these days with some grossing 64 ton.

They work fine ,just make sure the wheel cylinders and linings are good condition. They are illegal in a road car but youre not going to do that are you.

My 2 cents worth,buy another motor and build it as funds allow. That way your not off the road trying to sourse parts. Redline still sell them,weber performance in melbourne sell them. Budget at least 1500 for carbs. ,exhaust extractors, cam ,compression.The list goes on.$$$

Hilux are heavy but strong (set and forget)lots of ratios ,widths etc. The hot rodders are starting to use hilux diffs as well,with a lot more hp than a 4a. Tseries are getting old ,and only suit old farts driving style,like me slow. Do it once rob -
All so check out tighe cams ,ok to deal with. Lumpy idle may not be always the best solution ,but cool to wank with. But be realistic ,over camed will be a dog.

The inlet on that manifold is for your brakes.

Didnt no you could get a k50 behind a 4a.? Sounds like the w box is the go.

A warmed up 4ac ,bolts in no rego hasseles. These motors are under rated and often over looked. But go quite well,parts can be found under most bridges or over pass. T engines great ,don't get me wrong ,but twin cams getting hard to find and very pricey. Also very heavy. rob

Its a t50 ,proberly out of a early celica going by the shifter position and bell housing.(ta22)so it would have a t engine bell housing. As for fitting up to 4a engine you would have to change the bell housing,which i think can be done not 100% on that. The gear box looks ok ,was there any metal in it?

Nice car good build. This is the second or third 4age build with 4k disy thats sh#t it self ,cam shaft nearly in the same lobe?? Maybe the 4k disys are stressing some thing. Thoughts??? As for sludge, carbon deposits ,poor service history,short runs around town

I would check the needle &seat as all ready said ,also make sure your float isnt leaking ie full of fuel. Fuel pressure unlikly if its a std fuel pump but some think to lookat as last resort. rob

I would do the diff for sure.Then put 20 mm or more in the bottom control arms ,because it will push (under steer ) like a bitch with just a locked diff. rob -

Check the vacum hose that goes from the inlet to the rear of transmission.Had a old bogandore that done the same thing once. rob -
Had a hyper pak ,seemed ok until removed the engine to onther car and fu#ked it my fault. I had a 4ac disy and it would defently fit ,but have change the drive cog. As for internals I'm not sure which way it spun,but why couldnt you turn every think over.(re weights etc) What do you think Trev??
