So I have rapidly come to the conclusion that the halogen globes in the Nissan daily are pretty crap. I do a fair amount of country driving and wombats are a common concern. So whilst I come up with some sort of mount system for my mega cibies (by the way, interested in an easy mount solution that doesnt require a $750 nudge bar, and doesn't trip the airbags.....) I am also looking at upgrading the bulbs which I think are H11's. My trawling of the interwebs seem to suggest that Osram Nightbreakers may be the way to go. The Phillips equivalants seem to be marketed as a "style" globe?? I juat want to be able to see where I am going, and have no interest in…

Okay, so I'll start off by giving you an insight on what parts I'm running. I'm using the stock ke70 crossmember and steering rack, r31 rack and tie rod ends, r31 lca's to s13 knuckles and suspension. So I've done what most people do for extra lock and modded my knuckles (cut of 20mm) and now I have some serious Ackerman issues. One wheel is full lock and the other is probably not even half lock. Some help would be grouse.

I am planning a 4AGE conversion in my KE20 and am looking at gearbox options. Being based in the UK the T50 box is almost impossible to get hold of so I am exploring options. I am aware that the ford Type D 5-speed box is an alternative with the right bellhousing which I can get here in the UK. Do you guys know of any others that can be used that don't require too much trans tunnel mods and that would be available in the UK or Europe?

I am in need of a bit of advice from anyone with experience in the area of engine rebuilding. I've done lots of rebuilds in my time, about 20, of which only 5 involved/required professional machining, and never once ran into so many problems. Short version, i had coolant leaking in to oil, pulled the head, couldn't see any obvious leaks, but suspected the fact that because the head was quite warped (~0.5mm) that it was just simply a head gasket failure. The head has serious problems, but i cannot source a new one, so I'm doing a bit of a dodgy patch up just to get the car into a position where it can be run. While i have the head off, i thought now would …

Hey guys As most of you know I put a 4EFTE (Starlet GT Engine) into my Corolla II GP Turbo, now when I first drove it around it seemed great, smooth, fast & powerful.... now its a whole new story.. The engine feels like its struggling to get power specially on boost and when boost kicks in black smoke pours from the exhaust and I go a little bit quicker. I spent thousands on getting this engine in and running right only to have this occur 1 and half months later. When I advised the problem to the mechanic who put it in he told me to come in next month (when my warrenty is expired) so he can have a look at it. I've been thinking of what the problem cou…

Hey guys, I'm gonna buy some coil overs for my car, and I was wondering what can I do to them, can i take them apart and use different springs? Can I put different strut tops in? can I put different shockies in? Whats possible? My dream would be to have height adjustable, with damper and rebound adjust.

I've heard there is 3 or 4 different 4AGZE motors what's the difference between each? and which is the pick of the bunch with an eye for future mods? I've heard the AE101 version was the most powerfull, and I know I can get my hands on one easily enough...but what makes it more powerfull? Don't want to get it then find out it's more powerfull because of something that I'm going to have to remove anyways due to the RWD installation (ie. inlet manifold) Dave

Just discovered this page today, and oh what a relief. there actually IS people out there that are experiencing what i thought was rare. the feeling of an old, rear wheel drive corolla, a pissy engine, and yet still a giant smile on their dial. =D anywho, i'm 19, my name is nigel, i live in adelaide and this is my rolla its a 1984 Toyota Corolla CS sedan, KE70 with a 4K 1.3L engine its done 245,000km, been serviced on a regular basis, and has almost imaculate bodywork. the only modifications that i have made so far are: - new seat covers (let me know what brand to buy to fit the damned rear bench seat) - pioneer sound system - it once had a back l…

I'm in the process of installing a 5k into my ke30 sedan. Although i noticed i don't have a dipstick for the 5k - so i was wondering if anyone knew if a 3k or 4k dipstick is interchangable with a 5k motor? I'm happy to hear any suggestion as to what else would fit. The 5k is estimated at 140hp with datsun and holden internals, so i don't mind if a dipstick from another model fits, and indicates the right oil level.

My car has a Turbonetics Inc DeltaGate Mark II external wastegate. I was wondering if anyone knew if you could adjust the boost on them? http://www.turboneticsinc.com/wastegates.html#deltagate There are 2 screwy things on top. one is just a bolt and the other has a small cut off tube thing (as you can see in the picture) by the way that picture is outdated.. now the blue tubing is mostly gone. it just goes straight from the wastegate to the intake pipe. does the screw on top have anything to do with adjusting boost? i hope that made sense.... thanks guys!

does anyone have the wiring diagram for the ignition/coil for a 1975 ke35. basically ive got 4 wires which i thought all went to the coil - 2 negative and 2 positive. ive put a 4age in and put a multimeter on the wires and checked them, put the appropriate ones onto the terminals of the 4age coil then checked the dash and all the lights were on (with the key off). so i took one of the wires off the negative terminal and it sparked, so i took it off and put a multimeter on it and there was nothing when i earthed it (the multimeter) to the body or engine manifold, but when i earthed it to the ignitor/coil bracket there was about 4volts going through it. so pretty …

Crash Course in Seam Welding. All you need to know to start welding :) I decided to write this because of the lack of good, detailed documents on line on how to weld. The only experience was about 1 day of stick welding. Which no one taught me how to use. This time I got some help by a professional boiler maker. So I'm passing it on to help 1st time welders. The first part will go through removing rust out of panels and prepping it for welding. This should get you to the stage were you can fill over the panels with bog. Things you will need. • MIG welder • Welding mask if you don't want eye sunburn. Yes it hurts. • Tin snips. • Sheet metal. I…

Hey guys, just two quick questions i hope you can help me with! Firstly can anyone comment from experience what a 4k with a 3k head should run like with a 3k carbie bolted on to it. do they over fuel? fart miss etc? reason for question is after an enigne swap we've found that the 4k is running rough as (think it's mainly thanks to faulty points) but yet overfuels and blows smoke as a result in the higher end of the rev range. yet none at idle or during startup, which one would expect from worn valve seals or rings. What should the expected compression be cylinder to cylinder on the above setup be? roughly 120 psi on a used motor? any help would be…

First post here, but not a newbie to corolla on the net. Looks like this is the reason for oldcorolla email list's quiteness, so I'll move with the times and with a bit of luck I won't get nazy moderatored either (ah), Now I've had my bitch, I'll continue on. Got an engine that has low compression in all cylinders, but even in all. its got a good bit of pressure on the oil breather into the air filter. Idling you can cover oil breather and get a good hiss of build up. To give an indication, I reckon I could blo up ballons on oil breather ( not that I've tried, yet). The enngines an old toyota push-rod, so could it be blow through from the rings? Before you ask, …

greetings rollings... well after being sick of the constant humming noise coming from the rear end of my little yella beast, i got new wheel bearings put in it. its now a quiet little car at 100 clicks. its got a pea shooter exhaust on it, so the only noise is the sucking of the weber and humming of extractors from the engine bay. its tops, you can actually talk to people at normal volume! I'm surprised how little road noise the little car has, i'm cheering... Anywhoo, thought i would share. Cheers, dyzza

hey everyone. ive recently been thinking about this, and to me it seems to defeat the purpose. see the way I'm looking at this is if we take a turbo'd engine. with a compression ratio of 8.5 the bottom end is gonna be rather gutless and only be any good once it comes onto boost. now the way i see it the lower compression ratio means slower acceleration until the turbo spools up and a longer time to spool up because the engine isnt pumping as much air and it will also mean that the turbo has to push more air to create the same pressure in the cylinder as it would with a higher comp. engine. so from this thinking to me it seems that to have a decompressed version of n/a …

heres food for thought... Pushrod motors - grind cam = opens valves longer (in VERY basic terms) *OHC motors, where cam runs onto shims = Add meat to cam lobes to open valves longer. So, question is, IF you were able to work out what sizes were appropriate.. of you wanted a budget, and cheap ass way of getting more duration outa your motor, instead of getting new cams, would it be possible to put larger shims in, to increase the time the valve is open? It wouldn't change the time that it comes in, but if you think about it, because the shim has moved up point piss all of a thou, it would result in the valve opening slightly before, and close slightly after = m…

Sort of flowing on from "The Beast" thread.. How to the Australian clones of Japanese cars compare? eg. The Ford Laser/ Mazda 323. Mechanically? Cosmetic things like panels and interior bits? I'm just keeping an eye for prospective replacements for wagonodeath, and I was wondering if I should consider the local copies as well as the Japanses originals. Ive found (with my gearbox at least) that if I stop from ~100kmph in 4th or 5th (usually 5th) and just clutch in and stop (if the phones ringing I don't bother down shifting, its faster just to stop), the selector forks jam in gear and I can't change gears until I'm doing ~40kmph. Now as you can imagine taking off in 5th is a real bastard and hard on the clutch. I'm not sure if this is just my gearbox being crap, or its a design flaw in the early T50s. It happened again today, and Id say my box is pretty well rooted this time. 2nd gear syncro works for up shifts but not down shifts now. 5th gear syncro has a metalic grinding noise (def syncro) but still works fine…

This just shows you how similar the 20V valve head is in terms of valve layout to a Ferrari V12 item. Haven't ever seen an image of one b4, thought someone might be interested. 60V V12 is nice but won't fit in my rolla! Why hasn't toyota made a 40V 3.2L V8 damn it, imagine that, anyone got a thick checkbook  Ferrari

Hey guys, I was searching for stuff on my car one night when i came across this site that restores cracked dashboards and cracked arm rests. As I've looked everywhere for a good dash and havn't found one I was quite excited. I looked at what else they do on the site and found they also do custom consoles, wood grain dashes, wood grain knobs and steering wheels. If anyone wants a look its: .DASHBOARD RESTORATIONS I'm getting my dashboard done right now so i'll let you know how it turnd out if anyones interested. Jon.
