  1. Hey guys Just wondering if anyone knows where to get new Stock front shocks for a ke55 Sedan, I tried lots of shops around Sydney they all offer the Monroe-matic Plus part number 805014MM but they did not fit in the inserts unfortunately they were too long and thinner and original shocks, any help would be appreciated, the original shocks had a part number MG991 but Monroe told me they were discontinued. thank you Tony
  2. was just wondering about something posted in a thread: "15x7 with offset between 0 to +10 is spot on for KE's". I'm looking to upgrade wheels on my ke30, currently have some Tarago steel wheels 14x5.5 +30 (measured offset myself so hopefully its accurate) on stock standard (AFAIK) suspension, and the outer edge of the front rims is about 20mm in from the guard (rears have plenty of space). According to this willtheyfit.com link, 14x7 +0 will stick out and extra 2 inches, which makes it seem that they will not fit well. Do you need to flair/roll the guards to fit this size rim, or have i missed something in my calculations? I have also measured the stock ke30 wheel offset/size at 13x4 +40 meaning that 14x7 +0 would stick out an extra 78.1mm - does this sound right? any insight is much appreciated.
  3. G'day guys I'm looking at changing the current drum brakes on my KE55 to a disc brake setup front and rear. any ideas on the best options. DW about price just want a safer and better car for myself on the daily.
  4. Hi all, I have this nice beauty of a car, good old ke55 4 door sedan. Nice Toyota yellow with a mint condition interior. 4k-c engine with k40 gearbox. Been doing my own bits and pieces here and they're. Plus some added mods to give me classic extra grunt that is so much needed. So far I have - converted the the front grille from square to round plus added in some 7" Halo's wired up to my parkers. I'd bought the grille 2nd hand and gave it a good clean and paint. Plus remove/ fix dents and polish the chrome. - Added a set of 15" pos 8+ rims for style and over killed the tyres by getting bridgestones re003. Oh well. - next went with 4-1 extractors to 1" 3/4 straight through exhaust system. Sounds mint and not over powering in noise. Little crackle, and nice hum. - purchased 32/ 36 bolt on Spanish Webber carby + plytronics stage 2 electric dizzy and firebreather coil ignition. - bought to do, timing chain plus gears, crank pulley, re-ground camshaft ( not overkill on the cam) rear main seal, altinator, fuel pump and some other minor touches. Few in betweens in this process was Converting 5k thermostat lower and upper housing back to 4k housings plus new thermostat and temp sensor. ( Issue still tho, is I am getting a temp gauge reading of hot) guessing it's to do with the resistor in the dash. Haven't fixed yet. Using my infrared thermometer every run I do. Complete service, fuel filter, oil filter, plugs, leads etc etc Heres a couple photos of what I have so far looks wise. will add more of everything soon (engine bay, exhaust system etc) plus whatever is to come. Will need a bit of insight on a few others things I'm in the process of doing at the moment. But will post photos with questions when it comes round.

  6. Hi everyone! I've got myself a 1980 ke55. When I bought it it had all the usual corolla rust (rear wheel arches, boot, etc.) But when I started rust repairs, i found previous rust repairs. And bog. Lots. Of. Bog. Anyway to cut a long story short, I've decided to keep her and turn her into an absolute beast. It's a bit sacrilegious, I know but I was thinking of putting a 4.0 barra engine in it.. Any ideas/advice on the whole idea? Cheers, Kye. Ps. I have plenty of photos of youd like to see!
  7. A couple of years ago i picked up this KE35 here in the philippines. Pretty much it was just covered in rust and had just two passenger side seats and cheap carpet glued all over the place to cover up the rust. I figured It would be a good project for me to work on my body work and welding skills. turns out i was right, lots and lots of practice.
  8. Hey everyone. I've been a member here for almost 7 years, been using your wealth of information even longer. Thankyou to everyone who has contributed. The information on here makes everything so much easier. Yet at the same time so much harder due to deciding which way to go. So after buying my Rolla 8 years ago, I have been researching, planning and purchasing parts, and the time has now come to start putting things together. Thought I should probably document the process and give something back to the people who have given so much. A lot of what I am doing has been done before yet I think there will be a couple of surprises along the way. I have more things to get, yet hopefully can get the car running by the end of the year. I'd like to introduce you all to Katie. She is looking a little sad here and needs a good wash. Her bumper is also hanging due to having to remove the front quarter from a minor accident :( I first met Katie when a friend came over about 10 years ago. He had just got his license back and had borrowed a car from his in-laws. They bought the car brand new, converted her to gas, and she has travelled all of 212K Km's. Yet, happy ending, Katie is going to get a full makeover.
  9. Hey guys, Working on my 79' Corolla. Previous owner has replaced the 4K-C engine with a 3K engine. Everything is connected correctly and have checked everything 100 times. Now, everytime i start her up, she runs well but as soon i put her in drive it stalls. Been trying to adjust the idle screw, but don't get much of a response from the motor. Has anyone got an idea of how the vacuum setup differs between the 4K-C engine and the 3K engine. If so can you suggest a diagram to follow to make sure it is all connected in the right spot. Or could this just be a completely different issue all together? And has anyone got a clue how to decode the engine number, so i can figure out a manufacturing year? Cheers fellas.
  10. Hi everyone, the corolla you can see in my pictures, the bluey greeny ke55 is starting to blow alot of smoke and the engine is being a right pain in the arse ever for a 4k with 180,000km on the clock. decided to do an engine conversion on it, but I would like people with more experiences advice. What engine should I put in that would give me the best results and be the easiest to put in my lil rwd beast. Thank you all in advance David
  11. hey guys, just curious how much work is involved in swapping my 1981 ke55 rectangle headlights for quad headlights like in the ke70 corollas. i know i need lights brackets and the grille. but wondering if it will all fit. thanks in advance
  12. hey guys, I'm from melbourne, so ive had my ke55 for about a year now, ive been doing a bit of research on converting my stock 4k to a 4age and making it manual, i have no idea where to start, its currently on club rego in VIC. i know ill have to get in engineered, can someone give me a few tips ? maybe like a check list of things ill have to do and in which order to do them ? i haven't purchased a motor or anything yet, i want to figure out how much i would need to spend and get all the details first,
  13. Hey fellas, i have finally got my ke55sr near complete but running. I took it for a drive and drives well but there is a constant whirring sound when i am idling with the clutch disengaged. I have removed the clutch rod from the pedal and noise is still there. When i depress the pedal the noise goes away. Not sure whether the thrust bearing is still touching the fingers or if it could be the gearbox input bearing. Anybody else had this issue?? Cheers

  15. o.k. here I am, relatively new to the forum, first post. I was working for a vehicle restoration company early last year when I got offered this KE36 for sale, at the time I was 16 and although I was interested garage space at home was lacking, I joined this forumn however in the hope that one day the car would become mine and I could get some ideas, so here I am, year and a half later, about to get my p plates when I get a phone call asking me if I am still interested or she was going to the wreckers, well I couldn't let that happen could I?? $200 + $70 for a tow home and the car was in my possesion! I will try to post regularly as I move on, however garage space is tiny and I am still at school (year 12... Eeek, so time is an issue. Rear Shot? Interior, Magna/Commodore Seats? Roof Racks
  16. Hey fellas, wondering what you guys have used as a clutch master cylinder in an Sr conversion in ke55. It's a pretty tight space so I can't use the standard Sr clutch master as it will stick out way past the intake mani. Have heard about the ta22 but not sure dimensions and compatibility. Cheers
  17. Hey fellas, I'm about to install my clutch master in the KE55. I purchased an S13 clutch master and going to be mounting to standard ke55 manual pedal. Does anybody know the best way of measuring and positioning or has anybody done this before and have a drill template?? Cheers
  18. Hi guys, have a 1980 ke55 and I just took the motor out and replaced it with one from a ke70 while using the ke55 cam, carb, distributor, head etc. Has new coil, points, condenser, cap, rotor, leads, seals, headgasket etc. Timing set to 8degrees btdc, points set to 0.4mm, valve clearances set cold. Starts fairly easily and can rev in neutral easily like it used to but if i give the accelerator a few jabs it dies until it returns to idle, also when I take it for a test drive it doesn't want to rev easily and dies when I go over around 3000rpm. Just wondering if you guys can give me some tips or what your thoughts are on the problem and how to fix it? First time posting on here so hope this is the right section, thanks.
  19. Hey fellas, Another question about me old conversion. Trying to figure out the best way to run a clutch cable to my sr trans. Would you guys suggest buying standard clutch cable and modifying or any other ideas from the guys who have done it before?? Cheers
  20. Hey guys, I'm in the middle doing an Sr conversion into my ke55 and I'm trying to figure out what's best for fuel system. Whether to use inline or in tank fuel pump. Which one you guys recommend. Also what size fuel line for feed and return. Cheers
  21. Hi everyone I'm new here on rollaclub.com and wanna begin my adventure with classic Corollas. I have some project on my head that I'd like to get advise on. Basically I was wondering if KE55 Liftback and KE55 Coupe have the same bolts patterns so it's possible to swap their front ends: hood, guards, grill, headlights etc from liftback to coupe). Frogeye Coupe was avaulavble only in Japan but I'd like to make my own here in Oz. Tanks in advance for your replies! Cheers Peter
  22. Hi Fellas, I've been trying to figure out which radiator will fit in my KE55 with Sr20de. Measurements for s13 radiator if i set it hard up against the front would be too high for bonnet to close. Are there any alternatives with correct inlet/outlet orientation that will fit or should i try and fit the s13 radiator further back off the rail and put thermos on front?? What have you guys done. Cheers
  23. Hey guys, My spark plug tubes are worn through at the plug end and no longer seal at the top because nothing is holding them down. Does anyone know part numbers or who might supply them etc. Much appreciated. heres a vid of my KE55 after powerspark ignition mod, and DIY 2 inch exhaust i welded up :P
  24. Hey guys ive been reading through all the forums loking at all your engine swaps, I love my ke55 but the motor has shat it self bent 2 rods and snapped 1 would It be better to rebuild the top end and where do I get the parts if so ? 25. G'day So I've got a '78 KE55 Liftback here, and am in need of a replacement rear left window. The problem: I've tracked down a piece that looks like it will match, but it's being sold as a KE50 part- can anyone tell me if this will fit? Having a bugger of a time finding out. Cheers!
