I've done some research on the internet but would just like some clarification. My car has 310,000 km's i've read that the thicker the oil the better it is to make up for "play" in worn parts in the motor. I've read of people 10w30 but i've also rad about full synthetic 5w30 being better, what would you blokes recomend?

I'm also thinking about a 4age conversion in gime too but keep the motor pretty well stock besides extractors and exhaust. My questions are, What suspension to use, shocks and spring kg ect? Swaybars? Brakes? Do i get strut braces? Wheel size, tire size and anything else to make the car as close to a gocart as possible with a reosonable budget 3-4 grand?

Right, spent lots of time welding yesterday, and I now have a diff full of boiled diff oil, and some brackets to bolt my handbrake cable set up to. All good, I think. The only thing left to be done to get the mechanical handbrake to work, as far as I can tell, is to shorten the handbrake cables... Any ideas what would be the best/cheapest way to do it?

Was in bed last night flicking through a copy of Modern Motor from September 1967. In the what's new column, they detailed the "Endeavour Equipment Control Rod" for vehicles with a live axle suspended by semi-elliptic springs. It was a very simple set up, that these days would be very easy to replicate. In 1967 it cost $15. Essentially it is a trailing link on the drivers side, that is located between the U bolt bracket and the front spring mount following the line of the spring. The trailing link was situated underneath the spring. It required drilling a hole in the front spring mount to locate it. Then there is a panhard rod that is mounted diagonally f…

Hey guys, got a new project and having a few problems getting my bigport 4age to run properly in my ae86. MAP sensor'd cars undrivable at the moment, if i give the throttle a real quick hit and bring it up to say 2500rpm it misses and backfires and carrys on, if i move the throttle slowly to 2500 not a problem at all idles like crap (see vid) What ive tried; Have statically timed (everything lines up, cam timing etc) timing is at 10BTDC with diagnose bridged (timing is pretty erratic, 10degrees for 2-3 seconds then jumps to 15 then back to 10 etc etc..) compression check 140-145 on all 4 cylinders checked vac hoses TPS adjusted and i…

Hey guys, Getting back to building my 5k for my white ke10. Want to go the bike carby route, just for something different, trying something new and the sound. The thing i'm not sure is, Is there a way to work out what carby's will be suitable which aren't? I was talking to Jordain on facebook about it earlier and just got lost, he mentioned about going off throat sizes.. He also said he had cbr600 carbs on his 4k, Guessing this would lean out on a 5k? It's going to be pretty mild, heads done to 10.1:1 compression, mild porting, will cop valves and valve springs as well and be run on 98.. Any idea's on how to work it out, or what would be suitabl…

Hoping someone has a old Bilstein Catalog hanging around. Recent speedway junior sedan rule changes, now allow any type of shock as long as it fits and was designed for a passenger car. I have a pair of Bilstein p30 077 in the shed, I cannot find any info on these on the web, can someone please advise what they were designed for and are they a competition type shock ? Also as one of them is worn out where can I get them rebuilt in SE of Melb Thanks Andy

Hey guys! So while i'm building my 5k, I have gotten to the point of putting the pistons in. I'm using 40 thou over and rings to suit. However, when I compress them with the tool, it doesn't compress right round equally. and so when I try and lighty tap them into the cylinder they instantly bind. Is this a common problem or am I doing something wrong? I've gapped them to their spec. (Everything is well lubed up and this is how I do it at work and no problems) Cheers!

I have just purchased a corolla with a blacktop 20 valve 4wd , not knowing too much about them I would like to know if anyone might know what might cause a noise I have from I think the engine. It does not sound like a bearing noise more like a growling whirring noise increases with engine revs. It's a little bit hard to explain exactly kind of sound.

Howdy all. Just looking at purchasing a set of speed bleeders for Mumbleweed (Wife's yellow RA60 Celica) and I was hoping someone on here can tell me the brake bleeder valve size? Yes I could wait till I get home and take the thing apart but I'd rather not if I don't have to :) Thanks

hi all, this is a pretty basic one, just upgraded the diff in my ke70 and was wondering how the best way to bleed the brakes would be, the brake lines hooked up at the back on the diff but no fluid in them, so should I pump the pedal a tonne of times and try to get fluid into the line on the diff or should I just do the usual routine of pump pedal, loosen , pump pedal, will that eventually get fluid to the back. Also going to change the brake master while I'm bleeding brakes, A mate that doesn't really know ke70's said that there will probably be like 4 or 5 places (other than at wheels) in the brake system that I will have to bleed, sounds a little strange to me? …

hey guys, me and my dad have just finished rebuilding my 3k motor and was cranking it. It started a little bit but the timing was way off so we fixed that, and when we wanted to get the motor a bit warmer my dad revved it a little bit and all i felt was coolant all over my legs as the welsh plug from the head popped out. Now what could be wrong?? i got the head rebuilt from just heads do you think they would of put a new one in their or the old one just gave way, a bit out of my knowledge base so please help to what could of happened?? like i said it's a 3k from a ke35 1978

So I've got a blown head gasket. I've heard there are some additives which can repair a blown head gasket without taking off the head. Anyone used or can recommend any of these additives? I'de rather try a cheap fix before spending big money on repairing it.

So today my car got really hot when i lifted the bonnet my radiator was almost dry. so i got on my hands and knees to looks for a cracked hose or loose connection etc untill i finnaly checked my oil. which to my dissapointment was milky. so, when i get a new head gasket, i have the next task of checking to see i havent cracked my head :bash: I'm hoping since i don't drive like a retard and look after my engine that my head isnt cracked. however if it is I'm thinking of getting a 4k-e head and manifold, to make my next purchase of a turbo easier to install. good or bad move?..........thoughts? also i plan on getting either two copper head gaskets or p…

Hey all As you know, I'm doing the 4AGZE into Ae71 project.. blar blar blar. I will be getting the car engineered, wired up and blue plated by Robin Berardo from peFOURmance Motorsport in Brisbane. I just wanted some feedback from any one here who has worked with him before / and / or would you recommend some one else to do the blue plate, engineering and wiring for our project. As i am new to this entire concept, do chuck in anything you feel is relevant to the subject - I'm always up for listening to anything any one has to say! Cheers

I'm looking for somewhere to get a blue slip in Newcastle for my ke70 wagon Yes i have searched through the yellow pages, but I'd prefer someone thats not going to look too hard/pick up on ever little thing. I was going to get it rego'd in vic, but had to move before i got a chance to finish it. This is everthing the Mechanic told me to do, and all has been done: tyres make the bonnet easier to open Front RH parker faded. rear shackel bushes Front link pin bushes brake hoses New brakes all round Wiper blades all round. Adjust head lights I just drove it with a permit from melbourne to Newcastle, it drove really well, no problems at all. As soon as…

Hey All Today dad and i descided to move the cars around, to make some more space - we had to move my blue corolla ke70, its been started up now and then, and was moved about 2 M a week or so ago. When it was moved today, it had be driven back and fowards many times to make sure it was positioned corectly - during that time (i had warmed the motor up for 3 mins b4 it was moved) i notused blue smoke was comein out, it wasnt excatly what u call bad, but it was notusiable. WHen i got the car i didnt notus any blue smoke, the service records for the last 2 years don't say anthing about it, and the previous owner looked after it like it was her child. So I'm assuming i…

hey guys, recently i have been having this rather nut case idea of stuffing the M42 engine out of my BMW that i am wrecking into my ke11.. now i think it is a wierd combination and didnt think it would fit but took to it with a measuring tape the other week and all seemed like it would fit in.. now the engine itself is a 1.8ltr Dohc 16V bmw engine which would give the old 11 a bit of poke to it and from intial enquiries it would be a legal conversion.. now i generally am not one to go for different engine outside the toyota family but this engine has some decent power and is just sitting there at my place and it powered my 1300 odd Kg Bmw quite well and I'm su…

Anyone know of a place that will do a *reasonable* respray without costing too much? Paint is starting to flake off down the RHS, roof and bonnet. Makes me wish somebody would hurry up side swipe my car so NRMA will respray it for me.
