Ok so the T50 is buggered so I've source a W5x series gearbox and its pretty cheap for coming with a bellhousing as well. RWD is normally not my thing so I just wanna make sure I've thought of everything so the process isnt slowed thatmuch. Gearbox with bellhousing -> Check starter motor -> the standard 4a one ok? Speedo cable -> electric/mechanical? interchangable? Clutch -> Still at a loss for this one, need one to fit 200mm 29.8mm centre and 21 tooth. Found out its a bluetop flywheel :) Shifter position -> Holes will need to be cut, both the t and w boxes are long Driveshaft -> Will need to be shortened, use the front half off the w55 …

i've just picked myself up 2 gearboxes kinda cheap. one is a t50 from a TA22 (i believe) and the other is from a corolla (apparantly) here's the photo's of them that should help ID them The bottom one here is the t50 The left one here is the T50 i am very unconvinced that the unknown one is from a corolla, as the centre shaft is quite larger than the one on my k40 and the t50, as well as the clutch fork being on the opposite side of the bellhousing. all help is appreciated. dF

A bloke gave me this gear box. He reckoned he got it out of a KE55 (1980 model I think). I wanted to get a 5 speed gear box (K50) for my 4K engine. But I'm a bit confused. It looks like a T50 gear box. The clutch fork is on the passenger side (starter motor side), and it doesn't have a return spring on it. It must be a hydraulic clutch. And the drain plug is not direcetly underneath like on my K40 gear box. The bell housing has got '3A' on the top of it. And the bolt pattern looks a bit different to my K40. He gave me the drive shaft, since the front yoke was smaller in diameter than my KE30, so I can swap it over. I counted the splines, and I think its 22. …

Hey guys, Just woundering what the problem could be with my gearbox - its a ae71 with a 4ac and t50 gearbox? I was about give it abit of stick up a hill (hate hill starts anyways...) anyways i revved to about 3k and slowly let the clutch out... that was all good untill i went to go into 2nd, I put the clutch in, shifted into 2nd and let go of the clutch... then my car free revved - it was no longer in 'gear' ... so i rolled to a stop. i then tried to put it back into 1st to take off and nothing... so i tried all gears and nothing... so i then i though, stuff it! i wont use the clutch... and put it into first, no crunching, just slipped in and it seems like …

i've managed to get myself a 5 speed from the wreckers to put in. at the wreckers i took the side plate off and dumped all the oil and checked all the gearsets for visible damage. all good. so the question now is how much oil do i put back in? and also is there a preference on viscosity and breed of oil? do i fill it through the side plate? it's a k50 box, thanks for your input

Hey Hey, I have an after market oil cooler for my thm700 auto and its up against the radiator and gets air drawn through it when the thermo is on but it gets nothing when I'm still or my water temp is under 100c. So can i put a small fan on my oil cooler and just run it to a switch in the cabin ? And what will happen when i have both thermo's going, Will the different air flow rates mess with each other ? Des :lolcry:

Hey everyone. I put in a 5 speed in my ke30 on thursday night but now I'm leaking gearbox oil from what seems to be where the speedo cable goes into the gearbox itself. Any ideas how I could fix it? Don't exactly want to get a new speedo cable.

I am planning a 4AGE conversion in my KE20 and am looking at gearbox options. Being based in the UK the T50 box is almost impossible to get hold of so I am exploring options. I am aware that the ford Type D 5-speed box is an alternative with the right bellhousing which I can get here in the UK. Do you guys know of any others that can be used that don't require too much trans tunnel mods and that would be available in the UK or Europe?

Hey all, I was driving my ke55 rolla last night and when i put it in first it was fine intill you started to drive. Before you even went to take it out off first to put it in second it slipped outta gear. Does this mean my gearbox is going? Or is there something totally going wrong with my gearbox? Cheers Sarah :hmm:

Hey guys. I recently had a K50 gearbox in my ke26. Tomorrow i want to put in my four speed as i'm going to take the k50 to get checked out, i have a feeling it's on the way out. Anyways, do i need to change anything (like the cross member) or does the four speed just bolt straight in? Thanks.

Cracked open 2 of my old T50 gearboxes today, one of them is a JDM AE86 box, the other is an ADM TA22 box. The JDM box has 2 missing teeth off the layshaft (2nd gear, I think), and apart from that can't tell very much. However, the oil was replaced less than a week before it self destructed, and the oil that came out previously had lots of sparkles. The TA22 box has lots and lots and lots of shiny sparkles. I replaced the TA22 box because it was making a hell of a lot of noise, and it kept popping out of gears all the time. Both boxes seem to have lots of little scratches across the wear face, and both of them also seem to have a bit of corrosion on the g…

While up at Caloundra for Coastal Challenge and ARC last weekend, I was speaking to Tony (driver of TRD KE70), and he mentioned that he thought the stock gearbox ratios were more suitable to a 4.77 diff for rally and other similar sort of events that had a big variance in speed, and that the close ratio gearboxes were only really suitable for high speed stuff because of the huge 1st and 2nd gears. Or at least that's what I understood from our conversation anyway :) Does anyone (Rob?) have any opinions on this?

The massive gap between third an fourth is a pain in my K50, and I wondered if anyone had swapped the earlier gear sets from the Ke30/55 into a K50. While a lot of people say the K40 and K50 have the same ratios, there are several different sets of ratios quoted, even in our Wiki. Going the T50 path would have the same effect, but cost a bundle and give a lot of hassle with K-T bellhousings and heavy gearboxes. So... anyone 'blended' a K40 and a K50 yet??

Refer to last post Hi everyone, I'm trying to find gland nuts (the big nut that holds a shock inside a strut tube, I think that's what they're called) for AE86 struts, so far places like repco and supercheap haven't been able to get them in for me. Does anyone know of a shop that sells them or can order them in? If not the local wreckers has a T18 sitting in the yard and I was wondering if T18 gland nuts would fit in AE86 struts, or is the thread different? I don't think they would want to sell the gland nut separate so I may have to buy the complete strut, but if I remember correctly T18 struts are the same as or very similar to AE86 struts and thus would make a goo…

Something I thought was interesting... True it has to do with gokarts and not cars, but I think some of the principles would still apply to cars esp if you have a locked diff or a very tight LSD... Kart Steering, Physical Forces and Setup - Theory and Practice

I've been told i need togo through the Pits at Vicroads to get rego on my corona as i bought it unregistered. Just wondering if anyone who's been through this before could give me some hints at what they may look at just to help my chances of getting through. Passed RWC less than 2 weeks ago and already fixed all the rust (properly not just bog)

looking for good panel beater near blacktown sydney. (west) that hates bog.. I'm looking at getting my ke25 cleaned up the proper way with cut and weld style rust repair. I also have a few dents here or there, in roof and driver door, also boot and under rear guard is pushed up. rust along front of bonnet. we are stripping and repainting it so if you know anyone that is good at working with panels, it would be good to get it done properly. pics: https://plus.google....580240125225682 https://plus.google....580065931946546 https://plus.google....579795520938610 https://plus.google....501084341651570 https://plus.google....500820108240722

Don't know whether any of you guys know of, or have used the following site before. AUTOSHOP101 I came across it recently, while researching how different electonic engine management systems solve the problem of exacting timing during cranking. The site is very informative. It has basic information and some very interesting technical articals on lots of interesting automotive control subjects. The technical articals are fairly generic, but are all based on TOYOTA technology, so most things you read on the site are very applicable to our engines. I recommend the site as a good read to any "newbies" who read these pages but are too frightened to ask, b…
