Hi everyone. I'm new and fairly amateur to the forced induction scene, as i grew up around NA V8s, but am a diesel/ petrol apprentice mechanic, so i have the basics. ive recently picked up a t18 with a 3tgte in good roadworthy nick, and I'm finding it extremely hard to find parts of any sort for both the engine and the car. i wanted to know what a good turbo upgrade would be whether it be bigger toyota or a garrett of some sort. also wanted to know if the motor utilises a t3 flange as standard. are there any sites available worldwide that supply any aftermarket performance parts or do i have to go custom all the way. At the moment the car is running 10psi on 1st sta…

  10. I am having no luck finding replacement performance strut inserts for my TE27 SR-5. The SR-5 struts are a bit shorter and fatter than the standard struts. Does anyone know if inserts from a wagon or maybe a Celica are the same part? I have checked the Tokico and Koni sites but nothing listed specifically for the SR-5 model Corolla. THANKS! Bill

Hey everybody.........first post. I'm out in Canada and am working on a couple of late 70's corolla's...both te31 four doors'. I love those 2tc's...but the things that previous owners have done! I was just out working on putting in a tachometer into my 1977 te31 corolla (just to figure out how) and while i was at it, a spark happened while I was wiring stuff together and now absolutely nothing but the door buzzer works (sometimes). I'm totally clueless. I don't know much at all about electrical systems except the basics. Any help would be muchly appreciated. I'm at a loss. I'm thinking it might be the fusible link on the battery positive terminal...but I'm not…

  14. Hey guys... I've been facing a bit of a problem recently. I topped out my beloved TE27 at 175kph a while back, and have been kind of...well...sad. Its running a 2tc, and for a four door thats been living on the Canadian west coast for 30 some odd years, thats quite impressive. Must kids around here bomb around in late eighties Honda's with patchwork bodykits, ridiculously huge spoilers, and tin can exhaust tips with barely running stock engines...and quite a few crappy Pontiac Fiero's as well. I've already schooled a few of them... Problem is, I want to get into the larger race scene around here. I'm also moving out to Alberta pretty soon...which means a helluva l…

Hi everyone, I'm working on some research into Toyota Vehicle Identification Numbers prior to when the US standardized on the 17-character VIN in 1981. I've been able to locate a lot of information about Toyota frame numbers from 1965 up to the start of 1975, and from the end of 1978 onwards. This leaves a rather frustrating hole in the middle from 1975 through 1978. Does anyone have any information regarding frame numbers for the TE series (or any other models, for that matter) during this period?

Happened to spy a 1983ish corona sitting in a paddock near my place. What bits could be used in a TE71 build? I have a A to T series bellhousing, can this be made to fit a corona gearbox? I am guessing the diff wil be a bit wider than a TE71, how much wider? I am interested because I know corona stuff is stronger than T series stuff and I would rather over engineer the driveline.

Hey Hey, My t18 gets a wee bit hot. Normal driving too and from work etc it sits on 1/4 on the highway but as soon as i get into the slightest traffic jam or start driving through suburbia it heats up to about 3/4 then i turn it off and the water in the over flow is boiling. The clutch fan was f@$ked as i could grab it with my hands and hold it still at idle and still have my fingers attached. I replaced it with a 12 inch thermo fan. Wired up properly using a relay and fuse etc but no thermo switch so it runs constantly with the ignition on which I'm ok with. Still heats up to 3/4 just takes 30 mins give or take of suburbia/traffic driving for it to get there. …

I've had a look at my suspension and I've decided i don't trust it... I've thought about upgrading for awhile, and now that I can afford it I have no excuse not to. ae86 suspension is what I'm looking at cause it's a direct bolt on from what I understand and I'm planning on sticking with Toyota parts. what I want to ask you guys is whether it's worth the savings to get used components or to buy new ones from a manufacturer like Koni (I'll be installing it my self either way). any brand recommendations? I thought I'd post here before I grab the first deal I find. any input is greatly appreciated

Oh, and be able to handle a draw thru supercharger setup. (not sure if anything other than re-jetting would need to be done...) I'm trying to find something similar to an Eaton M45 (if i can't get an original) and am aware that i'll need to fully fabricate all manifolds and the like... G'day guys, Has anyone done a rack and pinion conversion on a T18 while still running a T series engine? If you have, can you tell me how to do it? I am assuming you would be able to bolt in an AE71 crossmember like you were putting a 4AGE in. Shell = TE71 (same as a T18 at front), engine = 2TGUE, gearbox = T50

  32. Hi there, I'm still weighing up the pro's and con's of turboing, vs supercharging, but I'm really not wanting to hear anymore about that... What I want to know is this... Can a Turbo from a Diesel engine be used effectively on a Petrol engine? The theory is as follows... If a 3L Diesel turbo motor spools it's turbo up at 1000rpm, won't that mean a 1.5L petrol motor can spool it up at somewhere near 2000rpm? My thinking is that my torquey little 3T should (in theory) spool said turbo at about 1700rpm give or take a few turns... I met a guy who's sons had taken a turbo off a 10L Cummins Tractor, and bolted it to their 308 holden V8... apparently it spool…

My T18 donor car "jesus" is quite whiny in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears under load, but the noise dissappears in 4th and 5th, and also when backing off in 1, 2 and 3. Is this common? terminal? easily fixable? likely to cause a catastrophic failure any second? My best guess is a worn bearing in the gearbox. I have a spare box, so I'm not too concerned.

  38. Hi everyone. I have rescued a TE72 from certain wrecking and am turning her into a club car just to compete in local events. (She's a bit rough but I think she has a bit more life left in her yet!) I would like to upgrade the front brakes. I have standard rotors but would like to upgrade to bigger callipers. What would be compatible without too much modification? Also, with regards to suspension, what lower control arms can be used to give the car more camber? And is it true that the suspension out of an AE86 will bolt straight in? Thanks :sob:

  39. hey just a quick lazy stupid question all the engines i have set clearances on in the past have either been overhead cam with direct bucket/shim actuation *OR* pushrod with hydraulic lifters is the 3T hydraulic lifters or solid ones? if it's solid lifters like earlier k engines, how do you adjust the valve clearance/lash? is there a threaded adjustment where the pushrod meets the rocker? or do you pull the lifter out and twig with it somehow? or something different? too cold outside to go have a look and I'm sick
