Hey guys, I am in need of some help... a few days ago the timing belt on my ae82 snapped and left me stranded in the middle of no where. When i got the car home me and a mate (who is a mechanic) pulled it apart and replaced the belt and timed it up and now we can't get it to start at all. We've triple checked the timing and that's right, we've triple checked the compression and that's good too as is spark and it's getting fuel all at the right time. What else could be the problem??? :abuse: We are both stumped as are the other two mechanics who have looked at it Any help would be GREATLY appreciated Cheers

I have an AE82 its stock bar the spottie on it the issue i have is that its hard to start and i wanted to find out why i plave another battery out of my rover (Mower) in it its a fair size its still 12 volt though and it started it the other day but i went to start it yesterday and it wouldn't start it turned over once and then stopped. The lights on the dash the oil etc went out and wouldn't come back on so i put the old battery back into it just wondering if anyone has any idea on what was/is wrong with the little beast. By the way in the way of spotties there is aprox 450 -500 watts of lights on the front. Sorry bout the long post.

  5. hey guys, just putting my ae82 corolla back together after having the drivetrain out of it for over a year. i have pretty much all of it sorted out, except for a few little things, i was hoping someone might be able to help me out? firstly, theres a sensor/switch at the front left corner of the auto. has a small loom with blue plug and 2 pins. anyone know what it does, where it goes, or what signal is supposed to be sent to/from it? the car was originally manual and i think it may not have ever been connected, as the auto has never shifted properly. secondly, theres a breather off the auto dipstick tube. anyone know where the end of this is supposed to go? …

G'day  I have a few problems with my ae82 sedan with the steering. I chucked a 4age in my car and now i have really bad torque steer, I don't have power steering but i can sorta manage to control the torque steer but I have another problem... When ever I go over a dip in the road or a small bump the steering seems to have a life of its own and wants to either go left or right. What was really scary was the other night, it was a really wet dark road and pissing down rain (first time i drove in the rain with the sedan). As I'm driving along, every time i hit a small puddle the car wanted to turn. It took all my effort just to keep the car in a straight line.…

Hey everyone, I've just recently got some ae86 coilovers and brakes, but I'm having trouble getting the brake line to seal into the caliper. All the lines bolt up fine and everything but when i try to bleed the brakes fluid begins to leak from the left hand caliper where the line screws in. I have noticed that the lines I have seem to be different for left and right, where the female end of the line and male end inside the hole in the caliper press together, there is a different taper on the faces of the ends for the left caliper and line and the right caliper and line. And I'm assuming this is normal. But at first I didn't realise this and put the wrong line in the wrong…

is there any brake upgrade that is commonly done to ae86 struts? i ask because i have ae86 struts in my garage, and i want to upgrade the front brakes on my ke25. i don't want to make steering much worse, so i'd like to use ae86 power steer arms, which other struts do bolt to, but i have these struts now :D i've already looked around, and there's the usual toymods article on changing to cressida struts. and whilst the TTT 300mm brake kit would be nice, i don't want to spend us$1200. with the s13 brake upgrade, from what i've read you install the whole nissan strut including lower control arms and steering arms, yeah? probably would ruin the front track on a li…

Yo homiez! I hate fuel systems. I now smell of petrol. The only plus side of this whole operation is that the AE71 has a drain plug in the fuel tank, which means no siphoning for me! I'll cut to the chase: Trying to set up my AE71's 4AGE fuel system. I opted for the in-tank pump setup, not the external VL lifter + sender type setup, because i couldn't be bothered to deal with the noise, and to have to mount more things in the boot / under the car etc. I mistakenly believed that the EFI pump from an AE82 would fit into my AE71's hole... WRONG! If you're reading this and thinking this is the go, IT ISN'T! Look at images from the two. The AE82's pump mount…

The ignition switch in my AE86 has lost it's "action". By which I mean that it is a bit sluggish when turning the key, and doesn't spring back promptly to ON after you start it, and release the key. I've removed the ignition lock from the housing, and it just feels like it needs to be dismantled, given a good clean and lubricated. Does anyone one know how to remove the barrel from the lock? Also, I'm wondering if the switch wiring section with the plastic cartridge in it contains a spring, as there is clearly no return spring mechanism in the lock itself. I intend trying to buy a replacement one of these as my wiring has been cut up over the years.

Hey everyone, recently I installed AE86 front coilovers in my KE70. They are the threaded sleeve weld on type and there's something funny going on with them. Now I didn't make them but I've been told they have a Pedders R31 Sports insert in them and the casings have been shortened an unknown amount, although I measured them and they are ~400mm on the outside from top to bottom. The problem is that they have movement in the shaft and this can be felt as a clonk when you go over a bump, and the shaft can be seen moving from side to side when you jack the car up and push and pull on the strut casing. Yet the shocks work fine and don't appear to be leaking, initially I though…

I went to get my Ke55 stuts converted into coilovers today, and the guy at the suspension place sugested that use AE86 struts instead, he said that he can use better shocks into it and you get the added bonus of bigger brakes. Now that all sounds sweet to me, but i did not know that this was possible. he insures me that it all bolts up. Has any used this combo into a Ke55? And what if any problems did you have? Thanks

Has anyone ever had to replace one of these? I've been told that AE86 uni joints are non-serviceable items, so the entire yoke etc has to be replaced, or the old uni machined out (both of which = lots of money)? I've got a strange vibration in the car since the incident that I'm still trying to pin point, it's speed related, so I'm guessing it'll be wheels, diff, tailshaft, or something in between. I've gotten the wheels rebalanced, so that *shouldn't* be it. I keep having nightmares of my tailshaft letting go, and considering I don't have a tailshaft loop that could get quite unpleasant quite quickly. I'm going to replace all the tailshaft bolts just for peace of…

  28. Warning! This might take a minute or 2 to load. (Thought I should put this in a new thread too) I got bored and did a 3D model to explain what words have great difficulty to express. This comes up so often it needs to be explained properly. Steering arms are meant to act on the same plane as the steering rack. The further you are from the plane of the steering rack, the more bump steer you get as the steering arm moves in and out as the strut compresses and rebounds because the pin for the tie rod is not perpendicular with the rack. Don't try and look at the whole thing, just watch the link pin for the tie rod end. Not 100% to scale, but it clearly …

I have heard this problem being talked about before, but i can't remember the outcome..... Any help would be great...... THANKS * Give me an Old Skool corolla anyday! :y:

Who on the forums have done an AE92 4AGE 20V Swap? i have queries regarding the loom in terms of connecting Speedo, fuel pump, everything really..
