guys about a week ago I noticed my corolla was down on power and there was some exhaust fumes gettnig in the car, but not too bad at that stage. Only a few days before this I had ran the tank almost dry, and the car seemed to have definate flat spots in the power so I figured the reason for the loss in power was because the carby was blocked with shit. replaced all fuel lines and filter and cleaned the jets in the carby. Flat spots were definately gone but car still felt noticebly down in power and exhaust fumes were getting worse. I figured the muffler was blocked as I had just noticed the exhaust sounded different but thought I was imagining it till this point. Anywa…

I have an AE82 its stock bar the spottie on it the issue i have is that its hard to start and i wanted to find out why i plave another battery out of my rover (Mower) in it its a fair size its still 12 volt though and it started it the other day but i went to start it yesterday and it wouldn't start it turned over once and then stopped. The lights on the dash the oil etc went out and wouldn't come back on so i put the old battery back into it just wondering if anyone has any idea on what was/is wrong with the little beast. By the way in the way of spotties there is aprox 450 -500 watts of lights on the front. Sorry bout the long post.

Hey All, My name is Adam, and i'm currently in the process of fixing up a KE30 to be a daily driver. The problem i have at the moment is that the wheels i've sourced foul on the struts, and i imagine it will only get worse once tyres are fitted. So what i want to know, is do all the 4 * 114.3 RWD 'rollas run the same offset between the strut body and the wheel bolt up face, or will a later model hub (perhaps one that came factory fitted with wider tyres than a ke30) give me more clearance? If there is nothing available i will turn up some proper bolt on spacers with correct concentric locating rings, but i'd prefer to keep this as legal (and cheap :P) as …

How much side-to-side axle play is acceptable? I've got a KE35 Corolla with an RA28 diff, running Bluebird TRX rear discs brakes. I bought the diff already set up with the brakes. For as long as I can remember since I put the diff in there's always been a clunking sound from the back of the car when I go around some corners, but I've never really known what it was. I have a clutch style Cusco LSD and I know this makes clunking sounds as it engages and disengages. Anyway, last event I did I noticed that at least one of my discs was occasionally scraping on my caliper when I went around some corners, it only happened when I was coasting around corners. Looke…

talk about a million ways to do one thing! seems like there is multiple methods of getting neg camber, what does everyone think of them: this is in relation to ke corollas: (ke20 to ke55) but generally applies to most cars. strut: camber strut plates camber / caster strut plates drill strut top different struts bend struts control arms: longer control arms from another car use 2 original arms and weld longer rose jointed control arms re drill crossmember eccentric bush kits other: neg camber RCA's pull strut tops in with strut brace (lol...) replace strut and control arm setup from another car that suits i suppose one major issue is…

Hi, this is my first post...ever. I wanted to see if anybody can help, and I really appreciate it if you can. This is going to be a long story, but I'll try to cut it down. I have a 1976 Corolla 2TC SR5 liftback. My dad was the original owner and it only has 75k on it, so it really means a lot to me to get this car running again. About a year ago, I came up to a stop and the car died. It wouldn't hold an idle. Anything below about 2500 rpms and it felt like it was out of time. Anything above and it ran perfect. I checked my idle screw and it was fine. then I checked and replaced all of the vacuum lines. It still didn't fix it. I couldn't really tryto check …

webbers took me for a drive in his ae82 twinky tonight, oh my god, those things pull hard, i was suprised, this made me think that these engine s in the earlier rollas must be fast cars. this then makes me think how fast my rolla s going to be, with more power and less weight, (than the big port) i'm farking stocked. thats all really just had too say something. paul

Hey i've got a 4k with a set of sidedraught 40mm dellorto's on it. the motor just seems to keep poping when cold and hot and just runs like a bag of shit. i was just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this. i was thinking of rebuilding the carbies or piss them off and just get a 4 barrel holly. Also the setup of got is basically a rebuilt 4k 300degree cam extractors 2 1/4 inch exhaust the twins when they run right somtimes, elec ignition port and polished head. With all of this do peoples corolla's fell pretty decent i can't rip a doughnut in the dry yet my stock as a rock 1.6 liter gemini can do it easy both have locked diffs and the the corolla just can't do it.…

Hey all, just dropping by to say gday, my names Michael i currently own a suzuki swift, and I'm thinking about moving on to corollas. I want one as a project, but i don't know too much about them. I want a RWD corolla, probably either a ke70 or an ae71. I will upgrade the engine, probably with a 4age or 4afe, depending on price. My question is which model would be better for that, ke70 or ae71? and whats the average asking price for either one of those models? i checked ebay there isnt many for sale at all, i don't need one with rego just not falling to pieces :lolcry: thanks for listening

Handbrake cables on a KE3x/5x are not the same length. The passenger side one is about 2 inches longer, and that difference is a HUGE difference. If you put them in the wrong way around, your handbrake will not work.

Right, spent lots of time welding yesterday, and I now have a diff full of boiled diff oil, and some brackets to bolt my handbrake cable set up to. All good, I think. The only thing left to be done to get the mechanical handbrake to work, as far as I can tell, is to shorten the handbrake cables... Any ideas what would be the best/cheapest way to do it?

Do K engines suffer from Carb icing. I have noticed since the weather got cooler here in Sydney that the beast stalls soon after driving off in the morning. Today with rain it stalled many times until it got really hot. Should I use the winter setting on the stock air cleaner?

Was sitting in front of my car yesterday while the tailshaft loop was being finished off, and looking at my bumper. At the moment, my oil cooler sits in the gap above the front spoiler: This all seemed like a great place to put it: Well... until the bumper went on: *doh* Anyway, so there I was sitting there, and I thought maybe if I drill some holes in the bumper, I'll get more airflow to the oil cooler. Is it even legal to drill holes in your bumper? And then I realised another thing, I can't really even drill many holes in the bumper, because the numberplate is in the way... Maybe I can move the numberplate too? I think th…

Hi, I'm Bill Buttermore from Ames, IA. I've been working on my own cars since 1966. I recently rescued a '91 Corolla with a 4A FE engine and a 5-spd manual transmission from my local junkyard. The engine was in many pieces, but the rest of the car is in pretty nice shape. I have pulled the engine and trans and want to change out the half shaft seals in the transaxle while I have the tranny out and up. But I can not find any information on what transaxle I have. I have the trans up on my hoist and the only ID I have found on it is a riveted metal tag that displays only the VIN. I searched this site, but found only reference to axle ratios referenced to…

Here is a link to a Weber 32/26 carby for sale on eBay Oz : http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...me=STRK:MEWA:IT Does anyone know if (with an adaptor plate), it would be worthwhile performance wise fitting this to a 1.6 carby AE12 hatchback (1986 model). Would have to get a pro to fit it so even more $ involved. Possibly it would be worthwhile having a kit fitted to overhaul the Weber before fitting anyway. Not sure about under bonnet clearance, but should be ok. Amyone know if the standard, round shap air filter box (which sits on top of the current standard carby) would still fit this Weber ? All comments/views greatly appreciated. t…

I took my KE15 to the muffler shop today and apparantly they are not able to/don't want to make an intermediate pipe for my car. I have the 3k installed and ready to go except for exhaust. I have emailed the guy that Mikey suggested here in the states in regards to the extractors that he had but have not heard back yet. I may need to swap the exhaust manifold from the k-c to the 3kc for the fact that the 3k currently has a dual port exhaust and the k is a small looking manifold with a single port which will be much easier to make a down pipe for. If I cannot find an extractor, is there going to be any major difference in the performance of the 3k with the k exhaust ma…

Hi Guys, If this is in the wrong section I'm sorry. Hoping someone can help - car is import, based loosely on gt starlet/toyota paseo. Automatic, 1.5L engine. Car is silent when not moving. Some days, I experience a grinding metal noise coming from the front drivers side wheel. Some days there is clunking that makes the car jerk like backfiring, but its clunking, not backfiring. Some days, the car is completely silent. I am a bit concerned as I DID have a hit at the drivers front wheel back in september of last year, but this has come on within the last week or so. At first I thought wheel bearings or maybe brakes and was gearing up to go get the br…

Hi All, I am looking at modifying a 4K motor to put in to a KE30. But I see when people put the 3K head on the 4K motor it goes to 10:1 CR. With this do you guys have to use high octain fuel or do you use the standard pump fuel? Also in morris minors they had a water mist injection to stop detonation. If we use a CR of 10:1 could we use this set up so we only need to use standard fuel if we don't want to or can't afford high octain unleaded at 98? Cameron

Hi, After looking around for some 4K infor mation I found there were a few versions that had more power than a standard 4K-C. So I wanted to do p bit of a list here with the good and bad parts of the 4K motor so when where at wreckers we can look out for them. eg. what version of the 4K came witha warmed up cam..etc. So feel free to add to it... As I have noticed onteh FAQ that the 4K-c has a lot less power than the 4K-U and it has same compression bore and stroke size.etc. So how was it better? So here goes: Good: Versions: 4K-E,H Twin 40mm Webers / Dellorto's Regrind cam, pick your power curve Aftermarket extractors and 2 inch system Shaved head or 3K bi…

Hi ya. We have a hilux surf 1988, turbo. We travel with the air-con on and go up a hill and we loose power and temp gauge goes into the red, only does this when air-con is on. Temp goes back down when you go along the flat. Only started doing this 1yr ago. We have had the following done: radiator, hoses, thermostat, temp sensor, pressure test-hot and cold, added an extra fan on the front. Have had it to 2 diesel blokes without success. Use to get 400 to 450 ks now only get 350 ks. think thats about it. thanks debbie
