I've just finished putting a new 4A-C in my AE71 (thanks Jason and Teddy, ended up doing the whole thing by hand, lifting the motor out of Jason's car, then into mine at home haha) and since the old one is apparently a non-interferance motor so there shouldn't be any damage I was going to rebuild it for a spare my question is has anyone here ever played with these motors? I'm thinking of rebuilding it with a bigger cam, ported head and possibly bigger carb if I do that will it have enough power to spin the wheels? I've upgraded the brakes and suspension cause I want to drift it and was going to do a 4AGZE conversion but I got over it and can't be bothered spen…

i've been running leaded petrol in my ke70 since our family has had it. obviously, its been running LRP lately. unfortunatelly, LRP will no longer be available soon. i was told by my dad that i will need to run premium unleaded + additive. will i lose / gain power or long term reliability? are there any conversions that i can do to get more power / convert to plain unleaded? also, as a young kid at a deli would ask, "what can i get for fifty cents?" , i would like to ask.... whats the best performance upgrade i could get for say... $200 to my 4kc? ...(besides taking 100 kilo of crap out the boot)

Just discovered this page today, and oh what a relief. there actually IS people out there that are experiencing what i thought was rare. the feeling of an old, rear wheel drive corolla, a pissy engine, and yet still a giant smile on their dial. =D anywho, i'm 19, my name is nigel, i live in adelaide and this is my rolla its a 1984 Toyota Corolla CS sedan, KE70 with a 4K 1.3L engine its done 245,000km, been serviced on a regular basis, and has almost imaculate bodywork. the only modifications that i have made so far are: - new seat covers (let me know what brand to buy to fit the damned rear bench seat) - pioneer sound system - it once had a back l…

I'm mucking around with the Selby's adjustable swaybar that I have at the moment, and am trying to figure out which way gets stiffer and which way gets softer... On a normal swaybar, it's simple, the front bushes merely locate the bar (pivot) and the end bits torque the bar, so the further away the ends are from the pivot, the "softer" the bar is... The bar I have attaches to the radius rods. So one set of bushes near the ends, snd one set of bushes near the pivot. Does the same theory apply? That the closer together I put the bushes then the stiffer the bar will be? Or is it the opposite? Does it matter how near the ends I put the bushes?

I'm in the process of installing a 5k into my ke30 sedan. Although i noticed i don't have a dipstick for the 5k - so i was wondering if anyone knew if a 3k or 4k dipstick is interchangable with a 5k motor? I'm happy to hear any suggestion as to what else would fit. The 5k is estimated at 140hp with datsun and holden internals, so i don't mind if a dipstick from another model fits, and indicates the right oil level.

Hey all Ok, so ive got another weird idea, lets see how QLD transport likes this one :doublebird: Ok, my idea is this. To what i know, the coldest air (when a vehicle is moving) - flows up over the bonnet, and spirals/curls around the bottom of the front windscreen. (top pic) Is it legal if you cut a hole large enough to fit a medium sized pod filter through the top of the fire wall - so that its in the area where the air is sucked in from the outside and into the cabin / where the mechanism is for the window washers (bottom pic) This way you can have a really short intake pipe, and it would be away from the hot exhaust :P

This is mainly aimed at Paul, as he has alot of experience in this area with setup and so forth. But anyone and everyone please give your opinions. Basically i am looking for something low and stiff. Isnt everyone? hahaha. I have a pair of short stroke TRD front shocks here but nothing for the rear. I want to go on the cheap, but not dodgy cheap. One of my main questions is are coilovers really necessary in the front? I mean if you get custom springs made up, using 400ish lb springs, the suspension isnt going to be moving very much and wouldnt that keep the spring captive? So my first dilemma is coilovers or not in the front. Second is what to use in the rear. Garage …

I just got my waterpump put in and my AE86 is running cooler but, the guy that installed it said that the copression ratio is off and that i might have a blown head casket. and he wants 425 to put one in. is this a task i can do with the haynes manual and do it myself. and what is the copression ratio and what does it mean.

  24. Started by demuire,

Have been thinking about my suspension, and what I can do to maybe make the car easier to drive, and talking to a few people who would probably know what they are talking about, and one thing that could be wrong with the current set up is maybe the rear shocks aren't really up to the job. They are currently standard KE35 KYB's. The car, however, is a little heavier (cage), the diff is heavier (Celica) and the springs a fair bit stiffer (approx 200lb), so perhaps the KYB's aren't really valved for all that... Will be getting the car back on the shock dyno early next year so I guess I'll find out then. I've heard rumours that Commodore shocks are a suitable replac…

Does anyone know of any workshops/people/cousins/brothers/etc who are good at working 4AGE engines? Bill Sherwood seems to know a lot, but he's not really someone easy to get a hold of... I'm just looking for direction as to where to go with my engine... hello. I am looking for a diff for my ke55 rally car and was wondering if you could help me out. I am after a diff that is about 4.5:1 or 4.7:1 or there abouts. limited slip would be good but not essential at this time. i currently have the standard(?) 4.1 in there at the moment and the car definately has lost acceleration compared to the previous 4.3 (which i broke) which was also not the greatest for acceleration. The corolla has the 2t motor and 5 speed gear box and runs on 14 inch 4 stud rims with drums on the rear. Any help on what diffs fit in to the ke55 or what has to be done to make them fit would be most appreciated. Thanking you in advance. …

Just wandering around the Internet today, I stumbled across the Nevo website and noticed that they have "underdrive pulleys". The 4AGE ones are 15% underdrive on the crank and 10% underdrive on waterpump and alternator, while Bill Sherwood's ones special ones are standard crank, and very large others. I can understand putting smaller pulleys on the pump & alternator if you expect to be doing high revs a fair bit, but what's the advantage of underdriving the crank pulley?
