I own a 1978 Ke55 Corolla and are wondering if I could make my own set of extracters? It is already running a 2inch Jack Beedham exhaust but i want to know how Hard it would be to make sum extracters. I am willing to pay sum 1 in Brisbane $50 if they have a set or if you could make me a set. :)

Umm... Trouble finding 2 things (in the car): - control unit - set/resume switch I took the whole interior apart, discovered the engine computer (above the "tranny tunnel"), but can't find the cruise control one. Also, can't find the set/resume swtich. I know the main switch is under center aircond vent, but where's the other switch?

ok, lately daisy has not been starting so well. power also seems kinda down. i have been in too much pain to do too much, but i went to the chiropractor today. i feel great!! ok so i started checking things she used to fire up (warm) with a touch of a key. last couple of weeks it'll crank and crank then fire when the key is released. so i checked to fuel pump relays. pump ran when running, but not when starting. hooked pump up directly to 12v and fires right off, still couldn't find anything wrong. wiring harness? No. i swapped computers and suddenly it was working. bad ecu? maybe. then i checked timing. now i have never owned a timing light, i usually set it by e…

Wandering around Wacol today, saw a car that looked a bit unusual. Looked under the bonnet, and hmm, strange! Couldn't recognise the engine, it was SOHC, with factory twin carbs (it even said "Dual Carburettor" or something on the rather strange looking airbox). Looked at the firewall, it said "3A-SU". Never seen one of these before... It looks like a Corolla GP or something. It's a hatch, but on the steering wheel it says "Tercel".

Time to call on the collective wisdom of Corolla land. I've noticed lately especially since the weather turned a little colder that the 3K has a distimct rattle for a minute or so after starting then it quietens. Do these engines have a hydraulic tensioner on the chain that perhaps is a little slower to take up the slack when the oil is thicker? Is this a problem? Is it anything to be concerned about? Barry

For any of you considering a 4AGE into KE30/KE55 engine swap, I found out the other day which engine mounts you should use (as I had to replace mine). What you want are either Ford Cortina ones. Now, there are at least two types available. One type has a thickness of 37mm, the other is 39mm thick. The 39mm thick one is also used on a Land Rover. The other measurements are shared by each type of mount. I got the 37mm ones, but I know of someone using 39mm ones, but there's obviously not a huge difference. In case your engine is mounted too low with these mounts, there are two other types available, one to suit Jaguar, and one to suit Volvo. Both of these had the…

I'm not a expert on suspension setups so I'll just ask here to hear what you guys have to say to this ke70 2 door: slightly heavyer front because of the 2T-B engine, T50 gearbox and stock rear axle with welded locked diff removed all the sound deadening, carpets etc, that made the car less heavyer 205/50R15 tyres on alloy wheels lowered a bit at the front and alittle bit more at the back I want the car to slightly oversteer instead of understeering like it is now ( yes I know I should remove the locked diff or get a LSD ) the car is a daily driver, but I want to have some fun too :moon: so a fast streeter is the goal for this car.. slightly stiffer shocks b…

Do K engines suffer from Carb icing. I have noticed since the weather got cooler here in Sydney that the beast stalls soon after driving off in the morning. Today with rain it stalled many times until it got really hot. Should I use the winter setting on the stock air cleaner?

Ok so I have got a KE70 Corolla with the stock standard tape player in it, I want to put in a cd player with only the rear speaker wires on the wirring harness to the cd player. What I am after is the tape player wirring diagram if anyone has it because I don't understand which wires to cut because there are 3 different connections to the tape player and only wires to connect for the cd player. Any help would be much appreiciated. If this is in the wrong place I am really sorry, new to the thread, if it is please put it where it is supposed to be if need be. Jay

Hi all, nice site, I have recently picked up a stocko ke55 sedan off ebay, it is dual fuel and I have got it regoed (it only cost me $165 off ebay) its a 5 speed with air con. things ive discovered: misses on number four after 3-5 minutes of warming up. headgasket? sticky valve? when i take off or compression brake i hear a clunk and the steering changes, I'm guessing the pivot bush on the rear springs needs replacing, at least one side needs it. i am wanting to do something about power upgrade without having to get it engineered, or rego changes. it handles like a dog atm, anything to stiffen it up would be great, so I'm basically asking advice or how to…

so my housemate has this ep82 starlet gt turbo............. in the year that he has had it, we have researched the use of a few different turbos and boost has been slowly wound up to a max of 20psi. now a few months ago we relised the bearings don't like that. so we track down the guy who built the donk up ( still a 4e) and we found out the engine in fact has ross forgies, and a few other goodies......... all to suit the f@$king standard bearings!!!! what an engine builder?!? back on topic.... so we took a few days to track down some more NDC brand bearings... they didn't make it through the day. so we found NDC pro series bearings, they also failed after a couple…

Does anyone here have the torque specs for the rear suspension for an AE102 corolla/prizm. i need the specs for pretty much everything back there since i'm replacing a broken strut on the rear passeger side. i was hit on the wheel and it bent the shock and jammed it. my wheel survived with only a scuff. i got a set of alloys off an 90 prizm, ae86 corollla equivelent, and holy crap those wheels are strong!. best $60 i spent. thank you all in advance to anyone who can get me the info i am seeking or to anyone who can point me to where i can find it

Right, here's the task at hand. Haikal's Wagz-O-Death had a fairly dodgy hatch. The Clever People at Toyota decided, in 1978, that it would be a good idea to use torsion bars to hold the hatch up (which in the present times, I think is a really stupid idea). So right, there were these tiny torsion bars in the roof, above the roof lining, held in by little plastic clips, to hold up this really heavy hatch. Over time (and it's been awhile since 1978!), the clips wore out, cracked and broke from the high stresses they were subjected to, and one of the torsion bars popped free. So we had the hatch sort of half held up by one torsion bar. Hardly enough. So come …

Hey people, put my rolla on ULP finally has done around 180k's on it so far but it has to go in to have the timing adjusted and have a tune! it lasted around 100k'm before any problems now it pings (rattles) under load! and takes a while to actually die when ignition is turned off (aparently called advanced ignition or timing or something), And it takes a little longer to turn over when starting but can't complain! Seem's to have more power now, although i have to fix the overheating problems! (will start with a new thermostat and go from there)

On the topic, would this strut brace (which I realise has been sold) also suit a KE55? Or are the differences between KE55 and KE70 too great?

I've done all the searches of the Forums & WIKI and Oldrollas FAQ and I think I know generally what I'm looking for. I still have some questions though :) I am currently running a stock 3k however there will be extractors & probably a mild cam at a later date. Looking to end up with a strong, grunty little engine suitable for street & the occasional run in a club level motokhana. On Oldcorollas it says the following So I'll ask the experts out there is this what we are talking about and if so what would be a reasonable price. ebayyyyyy OR do I look to the twin option with something like this Ebay again plus a manifold costi…

Ive been locking around and every one has different options on what to use. I want to go for something big. (With in reason), but alot of people say stock (4ac) radiator are good and get them redone ?, other say aftermarket is the way to go :P I measured up a cressdia (7m) and it would fit snuggly into the bay, but how good are they? My mums BF's just had a hairline fracture.....

Question about the K series timing chain. I stripped my newly acquired 5K down at the weekend. Got a Toyota 2K to 5K genuine engine manual yesterday off eBay which I will use to check all original measurements. Note that some in these threads are suggesting that the timing chain be changed to 2 row on 5Ks. I agree ! From my experience with chains in any application. They streeeetch over time. Question. Where do you get a double row timing chain & sprokets for the 5K ? Are they an aftermarket part ? I note, and old 3K I have here in the garage has a double row timing chain on it as standard. Do the 3K double chains & cam & crankshaft sp…

hey the other day when I changed my engine over I must have busted a heater hose somewhere between the firewall and the heater... since there all copper pipe from the fire wall to the heater and a real pain in the arse to get to if you have big hands is there an easy way to fix the massive puddle producing fountain and keep my heaters? oh I allready bypaced the heaters hoses from the engine to keep the water flowing through the engine and not onto my floor. so I guess I want to know if I can replace it with rubber heater hose or do I need new copper pipe?

Just doing some research for my next drift beast project. It will involve the most insane 4A-GTE you will ever see :S (dead serious too) It will be a track only car so it won't be registered for road use (That will be for my MZ20 Soarer :wootjump: ) anyways I was wondering if it is possible to fit a 20v 4A-GE head onto a 4A-GZE bottom end? Thanks for your help. I will keep you guys posted as to the progress of this project. It probably won't be in action till the end of the year (well the engine bit, the car body modifying will be but) Thanks
