Just a quick question would there be any advantage to removing my muffler from my standard 3k powered ke20?? this is for a khanacross event so street legal does not matter. I was thinking about cutting the muffler off the car and welding flanges on to the exhaust and the muffler so i could just replace it with an exhaust tip with a foot of pipe on it instead of a muffler..

My corolla is low as it is, but not that low, so i would like to be able to get it to sit just right...... :y: The rear leafs arent really a problem, because i know a guy who can re - set them and add an extra leaf, so that doesnt worry me.... What concerns me is the front springs. I have searched through old topics and someone mentioned that if you use eb ford falcon front springs and cut them down it should be fine. I'm not too sure whether you would have any problem with wheel alignment or would you have to chenge the front shocks or strut tower....??? :P Thanks...

Hi! I'm Rene and I come from the Philippines. Bought a Toyota 3A-U engine and installed it in a 4WD Suzuki Beaver. Had the engine overhauled but forgot to take note of the hose layout (think pneumatic hoses that connects to the carb and manifolds). Now, after being overhauled and the engine runs worse. Can anybody help me by emailing or posting a diagram of the hose layout. My engine is not fuel injected. Thanks a lot!

My girlfriend has a '88 Corolla 4 door. I has about 115k on it, and was just in for a tune, also the exhaust was replaced. Since then, the car seems to be running rich, and idling low, the gas mileage has dropped from 50-60mpg down to 29-30 mpg. Any thoughts on what the issue might be? Bad injectors maybe?

now someone probably already knew this, but i had to check it for myself. the box i tried it on was a 22re out of hilux/corona st141-2, bolts stright up, so the bell housing you want for this conversion is from a late townace with a 7KC or E. thanks to mr beerhead for making me get my ass into gear.

This will probably end up in the Wiki somewhere, but for now I'm just going to put it in this thread. Lots of people talk about T-series diffs, kouki and zenki etc, but few people ever mention the axles. And then there's the people who say that if you have a non-LSD T-series diff and you want to put a TRD LSD center in, then you need to shorten the axles about 5mm... Well anyways, what I wanted to point out is: Not all T-series axles are created equal. There are at least (and probably more) 3 different sorts: TA22: These are fairly short, fairly thin, and use tiny bearings RA23/38, TA23: These are about the same length as the TA22 (I think slightly long…

hey guys. my ke70 is making a funny noise. it happeneds wen i go over bumpy road or like if the back bounces around a bit. its a squeeking noise, and i can tell it has to do with the suspension. its coming from the rear behind me wen i drive, so back right? i thought maybe a worn shock absorber? anyone else had the same problem before? and is there anyway to determine that this is the cause? cheers

G"day guys the nightmare cotinues. The starter on the 7k has always been tight. It would generally start first throw. Now it has locked up and will not kick over. I"ve taken it out and it seems ok when i test it. I don't know if this is even the correct starter for the block and flywheel combination. a 4k starter doesn't fit the body is to big :D

my name is reuben and i own a 1979 ke55 corolla. which i have had for 3 years. it still has its original block thats been rebuilt with flat tops and chrome rings. i ported the head in my shead at home including all port matched. extractors 4 into 2 into 1 at 1 7/8 and into 2 inch at the first resonator. the 7200 rpm redline comes around pretty quick and 210 psi in each cylinder makes it expensive to run only really liking premium. thermo fan and electronic fuel pump all hooked up to the standard 4 speed and clutch. the diff, springs and rear brakes are all out of a wagon. new 2pak RX4 metallic purple with lots of clear. all up its cost about $900 including buying the ca…

It's an 83 Corolla KE70 and this is my problem: Sit in drivers seat, turn key with accelerator, car starts, BUT when i let go of the key and it returns to the "ON" position, the car stalls! I have checked ALL of the fuses in the fuse box in the car, and the "ENGINE" fuse in the engine bay, along with another 1 or 2 in there... I called a m8 n he said to check the coil (BOSCH GT40), i did that and yeah the tester lights up when the car turns over... Earlier today i disconnected the amp fuse while playin round in the boot and when i reconnected it it made a small spark which it usually does, but it looked slightly bigger than normal. I'm pr…

hello all, For those that don't know my name is tom. i have two KE50's which i am semi-rebuilding one of them. (3k from spare is for sale) Now a problem i have (I'm sure some other people have come across in their corolla endeavours) the tail light rubbers/gaskets are fairly perrished and ripped. Because of this i need to make up some new ones, i was wondering if anyone knew of a good way to do this besides that silicone gasket stuff which can get quite messy and look horrible if you don't do it propperly. I might also need to do this to the hatch hinges. Thanks in advance, Tom

Fellow rolla enthusiasts I have been encouraged to upgrade the suspension of my KE70 by a shock absorber snapping in two. Has anyone done this to a KE70 or AE71? Basically I just want my car to handle and of course to look phat. If anyone has done this with king springs and/or monroe shocks definately please reply to this post! These are the brands I want to use. Part numbers would also be helpful for reference if you did use these brands. Apart from that, any advice? If you suggest chopping the springs I will pretend you are a computer glitch and hit my moniter. :y: Hehe I like it how googling suspension and KE70 brings up a rollaclub hit first go.…

niggling things here and there, but the main one that's pissing me off is it's stalling on me when i put it into reverse. it's a real bitch when i'm having to do those 10 point turns in these ʇ~~ɔy little streets around where i live while working. i've checked the timing, it seems to be alright.. it is tending to idle roughly atm but i don't know what could be causing it. i'm no efi wizard etc so i'm stuck with what it could be.. cheers, matt :D

Where can you purchase solid lifters for the 5k engine? Does the engine ever come out with standard fuel injection??? I have heard that few 5k engine actually have solid lifters stock, not the hydrolic lifters! Is this true? If so, How can you tell??? ( I'm new to this stuff ) :D thanks to All. ROLLAS 4EVA

Just a query....... If you were to install a roll cage into your car, I'm guessing that you will need a engineers certificate to get it approved....??? Or is there a law stating that you cannot have a rollcage in a road registered vehicle?? But i can't see why not, HELL, it is safer...... * Not that i am planning to ROLL my car.... THANKS

I have just started to build my self a ke30, so far have lowered it,17 1nch mags, new panel and paint and prelude seats. That went all good but I'm not to clude up when it comes to the engine side of things. I only no what I have read, with no real knowledge of engines. I have got myself a 5k engine that has has the head shaved, ported and polished, 2t vales with hardened valve springs, a street ground cam (half race cam), lightly balanced crank.pistons and rod, and a set of 2t twin carbs to start things rollin. I keep reading about people changing the lifters to solid ones, so my question is with what I have done do I have to change the lifters or will I get away with wha…

I thought i'd start this after talking to Teddy about his engine he's building. i found this out the hard way in my starlet, running a 5k, it would Accelerate really hard and the last thing i expected when i went to freshen the engine up, was to find number one big end almost run. soon as i saw this i knew what had caused it, it was running just a standard sump, with so much acceleration the oil was been thrown to the back of the sump, staving the engine of oil. Now i'm wondering how many people out there have the same thing happening and don't know it, my oil light NEVER came on(remenber the oil switch is only 10psi). a little food for thought.

First post here, but not a newbie to corolla on the net. Looks like this is the reason for oldcorolla email list's quiteness, so I'll move with the times and with a bit of luck I won't get nazy moderatored either (ah), Now I've had my bitch, I'll continue on. Got an engine that has low compression in all cylinders, but even in all. its got a good bit of pressure on the oil breather into the air filter. Idling you can cover oil breather and get a good hiss of build up. To give an indication, I reckon I could blo up ballons on oil breather ( not that I've tried, yet). The enngines an old toyota push-rod, so could it be blow through from the rings? Before you ask, …

ok, the '81-'82 starlet transmissions i've been using have been stamped "k51" or "K52" the genuine efi 4ke '83 trans is stamped "k61" the rpm drop between each gear on the k61 is identical in each gear incl. 5th; does this make it a trd trans? the rpm drop was the same in 1st and 2nd in the others, but 3rd-4th was WIDE and 5th was almost non-existant (300rpm?) all this was while running 4.10 rear gears and 195/70/13 tIres. so what do you think?

I hate it when this happens............ After going for a drive in the ae92 this weekend, i noticed after moving it from sitting for a while there was a little spot of oil......... I lifted the bonnet to reveal that oil has started to come from around the distrubutor, and run down all over the other stuff. Its not drastic, but my girlfriend is freakin about it! I have heard this problem being talked about before, but i can't remember the outcome..... Any help would be great...... THANKS * Give me an Old Skool corolla anyday! :y:
