I thought it might be an interesting topic to see what peoples variations on running in engines are. The method I'm using at the moment is as follows: Penrite Running in oil (because I KNOW its a full mineral oil, suitable for turbos. Other oils tend not to advertise the fact because "synthetic is better" or some crap) Oil filter change at 100km Oil and Filter change at 500km (mineral oil again) Oil and filter change at 1000km (I'm going to use Penrite Semi-syn 10W50 I think) I drive it firm, not flogging it and keeping the RPM down (below 5000rpm and not long periods at high RPM). I try to avoid long periods of idling and cruising at a constant RPM and loa…

hey guys ... well the dream run on the stock carby is over ... the float is getting stuck at the top (i think) so the carby is flooding ... Any possible reason for this ? i have pulled the needle and seat out and cleaned them up, they look in immaculate condition... Where the fuel line plugs onto the carby, just inside the 'tube' where it bends down at a 45 degree angle, there is a sort of 'filter' i guess you'd call it ... well this one was stuffed and wouldn't let any fuel into the motor when i first put the carby on, so i took it out ... My question - what is that thing ? Could that be the source of my problems? i thought it might have just been a …

this is some of the stuff i'm finding as i fiddle around with the (2) 7k's i got recently. the best thing, (i haven't seen anyone post about this yet). they have a fully counter balanced crank. TRD k cranks were romured to be fully counter balanced, but i've never seen one. the conrods are 7afe and with a pressed 20mm pin. the oil pump pick up is steel,(good uprite engines where you have to change the pick up) the combustion chamber has been opened up and the ports have a better shape. the sump is deeper, but not by much. i'll post more as i find it.

Hey All My girlfriend has a 91 Suzuki Swift sedan. It is carby-fed and has flat spots in the carby. It likes to hesitate on takeoff. I have spoken to a mechanic and he suggests that it needs a carby kit. I have no knowledge or want to rebuild it, and i was wondering if any of you guys had any suggestions on what i should do? Perhaps a place to go who will sort out the carby? On the northside? Obviously price is the bottom line, i'd like to keep it as cheap as possible. Cheers for your help fellas.

This just shows you how similar the 20V valve head is in terms of valve layout to a Ferrari V12 item. Haven't ever seen an image of one b4, thought someone might be interested. 60V V12 is nice but won't fit in my rolla! Why hasn't toyota made a 40V 3.2L V8 damn it, imagine that, anyone got a thick checkbook  Ferrari

Hi, I have a some questions about a 4a supercharger I have been offered one for $200 and i want to fit it to a 1978 dual carby celica, I have never fitted a supercharger before but I have done a turbo or two. Q1. Do oil or water lines have to be run to the 4a supercharger? ( I Have seen some easton chargers before and all you have to do is attached the charger to aircon bracket and run a pipe from the underside of the charger to the carby and another to a filter, is this the same with the 4a type) Q2 I want to keep the dual carby setup, has this been done before? (sound different so why not do it.) Q3 what RPM do the 4a c…

hey guys well i have sorted out a major air leak, so that problem should be all gone now ... The new problem - the car free revs - even with the idle screw set at the lowest, it revs at over 3,000RPM. This is with the mixture screw set about 1 1/2 turns out. This is with the throttle gear returning to the closed position (e.g. the throttle cable isn't tight and holding the throttle open. ..) The jets in it are 130 primary, and 132 secondary. It is an automatic choke model, but the choke valve is all the way open so should have no affect ... The motor is a 4k .... ARG! ANY help would be great guys, cars been off the road for almost a week…

hey guys well i have just replaced my horribly inefficient 32/36 dfv (due to it being in need of rebuild/overhaul ... ) with a nice 32/36 dgav (water choke). ... I put it on the car after a few hours of cussing and what not, and realised i have forgotten to put on a gasket between the carby and the adapter plate! So the car revs, it seems to idle pretty well, but when you drive it it won't go past about 2700RPM without cutting out (or even if you put your foot down it wants to cut out). It will pick up again once the revs drop down. Is this likely air getting in between the carby and the adapter plate screwing up my air/fuel ratio ? Any other po…

Alrighty, ive been trying to get my head around what ratio ive got in my diff. The Vehicle id tag was blank so i got this off mt diff: T948-42-001 Can anyone make sense of it or is it just some dumb numbers. Ive read numerous diff codes explained articles and none match the sequence on mine. However it looks to be a standard borg warner one. I may be wrong tho.

Was looking through my "new" corolla earlier and stumbled apon all the orgional books. Turns out it was a dealers car. Not only that but with the manuals was an "emission control and maintenance guide" in which part if it lists what cars should run what ron fuel. tercel with 3a-c engine 97+ ron corolla with 4k = 89+ corolla with 4a-c = 97+ sprinter with 4a-c = 97+ celica with 2s-c = 97+ corona with 2s-c = 97+ camry wiht 2s-e =97+ supra with 5m-e = 94+ cressida with 5m-e = 94+ crown with 5me = 94+ This got me thinking, what was the ron of leaded fuel back then? If anyone wants a cop of the stuff i'll find a way to scan/upload i guess.

Hey All. Well, ive descided to go full out with the gauges, in my Blue ke70. (for the piece of mine for nick and justin, i wont be doing it up there :harhar:) Basically, (see pic first up) - I'm extending the gauge cluster to the left, and adding "Oil temp, Oil Press, Water Temp" Catch is, i plan to do it, in a way, which makes it look STOCK ! So, that means striping down the new gauges, and changing the backrounds, and making all the gauge markings the same, as per stock ke70 / Ae71. Now that we have moved over that, what ive been doing is scanning in the gauge facures, editing them, making them a black and white BMP (black backround, white = cl…

hey everyone, my unbreakable 4k...kinda broke was just coming home from selling and delivering my spare 4k, k50 and ke70 diff and coming out of the tolls with the empty trailer on i thrash it (its almost law that you thrash it coming out of the tolls :y:) and she sees around the redline in first, up to about 4500 in second then just normal driving but we notice as we carry on up the road shes one very sick little girl, feels like shes only running on 3 so bring her home, and sure enough, cylinder 3 is doing nothing different when u pull the lead off itl. so this morning did a quick test on the plug and lead, no worries. pull the rocker cover off and have a loo…

hey peoples, a quick run down again.. i have ke25 with a 4k and a 4 speed... ive fixed 3 oil leaks so far... oil pressure switch, sparkplug tube o rings, and now the new one. i don't know what the part it is called (fair sad concidering I'm an part time apprentice mechanic) anyways it is he huge cover (crankshaft cover, or timing??) that starts on the left of the waterpump ang goes right along the front of the motor to the bottom (under the waterpump) anyway i can see that it is quite a job to replace this gasgate (leake up near the water pump) and i was wondering what i have to do to fix it? looks like it is kinda simple, just take the belt off, and the pulle…

Hey all.. My car misses and is exactly the same as described here.. Quote: For the past few months I have had a problem with my 2001 Toyota Corolla (manual) sputtering and jerking when I start out and in low gears. I can press the gas pedal all the way to the floor and it doesn't seem to make it go. Also, the rpms drop and the car nearly shuts off. However, once I get going, everything is fine its usually just when I am first accelerating or when I am in low gears and/or stop and go. I have my fuel injection system cleaned and my spark plugs changed but this did not solve the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? ( Link for this : http://www.obdii.com…

Outer CV boot on my SV21 camry has shat itself, Haynes manual recons it's a "non-serviceable" part but searching around the net and asking around it seems that it's apparently a fairly straightforward replacement... Anyone have any tips? I've never taken apart the front end of the Camry before (apart from replacing the steering rack), so have no idea what to expect. It appears that I need to take the hub off, and I'm guessing there's a circlip or something that holds it all together?
