Hi everyone, umm I'm looking to lower my car abit more but before i can i need to know how much its already been lowered so i can get the springs ordered. Ive asked mechanics and they reckon they have to take out the spring to see how much its been lowered... I brought the car already lowered with 17's on it and the guy i brought it off doesnt know how much its been lowered because he didnt change suspension.. I don't want to go too low cuz it already rubs everywhere if i have people in the car or if i take hard corners, the gaurds are rolled and bashed out underneath etc etc. So i was thinking if i knew the ride height of a standard 16 twincam 88 then i could measure ap…

I've just gotten a workshop manual from diymanuals on eBay, and in typical ebay-style feedback, "AAA+++" diymanuals They don't have the workshop manual for my KE35, or I'd get one too. These appear to be the actual Toyota electronic workshop manuals (Mitchell Repair?), has all wiring diagrams, torque settings, troubleshooting and just about everything else about the car too :D

Hi, Just wanting to know if you run a webber on a 4K motor that is bog stock will I need to also run a set of extractors? Also what will it take to fit the webber? Is it as simple as an adaptor plate? I was looking around at photos here but it seems there are a few types of webbers so what parts are needed for what type of webber? And last of all I am planing to put this 4K inot a KE30 rolla. After I install the webber will the pollution gear fit back on or how should I go about running the carbon canister etc? And if I can use the polution gear is it lefal to run a webber with out it in a KE30? Cameron

Okay, so today I finally tried to start removing my front suspension so as to install my Pedders low springs and rose-jointed lower control arms. I've had a fair bit of success (the spring on one side's in), however I can't remove the LCA. As you can see in the bottom left of the image above (excuse the grainyness), the lower control arm is still attached to the steering arm, which in turn is attached to a tie-rod end. The threaded shaft sticks through the appropriate hole in the centre of the steering arm, and I figured a couple of taps (or belts) with the hammer would knock it out, but it's stuck in there pretty well. Am I missing something? I've now got…

Hi, Just been cleaning up my 4K slowly still getting ready to put it into my KE30 and I noticed the top radiator hose mount on the motor is different. On my KE30 3K motor it has a switch on the housing with two lines running to it that are vacuum lines. And one goes to the carby and other to the dissy. Then next to it is a taped hole that is blocked off right now with a plug. See photo below. On the 4K I have from a KE70 on it's housing it has just one hole and in it is like a temp switch of some sort and nothing else. But on the other side it has the temp prob for the water temp same as the 3K in the KE30 so I know this switch on the top is not for temp but wha…

hey guys, well ive got the 1ggte into the ke70 rebuilt and running well now :P latest issue is, i want to keep the stock tacho, however its designed for a 4 cylinder engine, and I'm getting a 6 cylinder pulse from the mallory ignition system I'm wondering if anyone knows how to do this, or knows a product to convert it? i found one, but at 295 i could just pay someone to steal teddy's custom dash and gauges :jamie: i just thought that maybe i could reprint the tacho face thingo with the numbers 2/3rds further round, but i would run out of tacho around the 6000 mark then...not enough hehe so if anyone has any solutions or ideas I'm keen to hear them cheers, a…

Hey guys, I'm asking a question on behalf of my sister / brother-in-law so I'll introduce myself another time, he drives a Suzuki Sierra 4X drive. I'm not sure which year model it is, 90's / 80's, but I just had to pick them both up 'cause she was driving along and her wheels just locked and the car came to a hault, couldn't roll the damn thing off the road 'cause they still wouldn't move! Does anyone know what this is, and if so how to fix it? It's all the little things in it that screw up, the engine is brand new so I don't think it's that... my friend said that it's most likely the gear box locking up or the brake booster stuffed up -- can anyone verify? …

A friend of mine (Ted Looi to those who know him) needs some measurements from a boss kit from an AE82/92 Corolla. Does anyone have one handy? Thanks :P Edit: Apparently _ALL_ Toyota boss kits fit AE82/92. Does anyone have a spare boss kit lying around that you could measure up?

Hey all, I bent a pushrod in my 5K and I'm having a fair bit of trouble locating a new one. Toyota keep sending out the wrong one and the wreckers don't seem to be able to help. The pushrods in my 5K are roughly 15cm long. Firstly is this the right size that should be in a 5K and if it is why is toyota struggling to GET IT RIGHT. I would also like to know if all K motors have the same size pushrods and if anyone is Sydney has a pushrod that they think will suit or if anyone knows where i should look for one I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Mitch.

hey checked the ke25 swaybar and it seems to be about 17mm or so which is pretty small diameter, now the ke30 swaybar at 18mm? and late ke55 swaybar at 20mm? are both thicker, but can they be fitted or modified to fit to the ke25? or has anyone used another stock swaybar successfully? whiteline have a 20mm one and a 24mm one (overkill) both at about $220ea, but if a later ke model rolla swaybar fits it would save some cash...

Hey all, I believe I have compressed springs in my parts car KE70 as they don't appear cut at either end, yet the car sits lower and the springs move around a bit when the suspension is at full travel. Are compressed springs considered as dodgy as chopped springs? The only way I can see them falling out is if I launched the car off/over something so in that sense I under stand they'd be safe... But the spring rates would be shot wouldn't they? I'd prefer to have purposely built lowered sports springs but if it means I can save $200 this way then why not? Just curious as to peoples thoughts on this. Heres some pics that I took when initially confused as to…

Hi, After looking around for some 4K infor mation I found there were a few versions that had more power than a standard 4K-C. So I wanted to do p bit of a list here with the good and bad parts of the 4K motor so when where at wreckers we can look out for them. eg. what version of the 4K came witha warmed up cam..etc. So feel free to add to it... As I have noticed onteh FAQ that the 4K-c has a lot less power than the 4K-U and it has same compression bore and stroke size.etc. So how was it better? So here goes: Good: Versions: 4K-E,H Twin 40mm Webers / Dellorto's Regrind cam, pick your power curve Aftermarket extractors and 2 inch system Shaved head or 3K bi…

had a look on google and can't find much, i think a vacuum gauge is a worthy gauge to have but how would you connect it up to multiple carbs as multiple carbs don't have a single manifold for all cylinders. seems like either 1 gauge for each barrel? or tee all barrels together to feed into the gauge? its going to be an full time addition to the console rather than a service tool used in the engine bay. anyone know?

Hi, I was just tiding up my 4K motor I'm about to put into my KE30 and noticed on the fuel pump for it there is an extra outlet my KE30 pump doesn't have. The 4K is out of a KE70 and the pollution system has been removed. And I belive this line went to a part of the fuel system in the KE70. So here is a photo of the pump on the 4K: (the extra outlet is pointing away from the block on the top of the pump) Now the one on my 3K in the KE30 doesn't have this out let yet a blocked hole for one. And both fuel pumps work. So here is a picture of the one on my 3K for comparison: So my main question is what is this outlet for and when was it introduced in…

seems like a lot of people are doing entire strut conversions to get an easy brake / spring / damper / camber upgrade. ke30: i know the corona xt130 are popular and are almost a bolt in fit?, as well as doing the pug hilux brake upgrade on them. ke20: celica ra40 struts and control arms? any others?

I have recently purchased a 1968 Ke10 with a 4k and 4 speed in it. The car currently goes surprisingly good for a little 1300cc. The engine runs smooth and quiet, doesnt blow any smoke either. This leads me to believe it should be a relatively healthy engine. The car is basically standard but am looking to do suspension and front brakes. Wouldnt mind doing a few track days in it. I would like to get the most out of it with out spend way too much cash. 1st thing i will be doing is fitting a 5 speed. Then this is what i had in mind. - Extractors and exhaust (not sure on size) - Port and polish head - rebuild carbie with larger secondaries - Electronic ignition - Sp…

Hi, I was just google-ing on the net and found the site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_K_engine#3K about toyota K motors. It says here that the 4K has 60HP and the 3K made 68HP. I am about to install a 4K into my car so by going on the information on this site I am giving my car less power. But Some sites are usually wrong so I wanted the opinion off this forum on what has more power stocka dn an exact value if soem one has one. Cameron

Hello Guys, Firstly Ive had my trusty 4k-e EFI starlet for a while now and it has had an intermitent tap in the top end for a while. I pulled the hydraulic tappets to bits this week and discovered that the diaphram's inside and rooted. So they are back in the car. Now I love my baby soo much that I need to keep her in a1 condition. What parts will I need to convert a hydraulic tappet 4k, to cam followers and pushrods. Will a 3k Solid lifter and cam follower work in a 4k hydraulic motor? Or do I need the 4k solid as a donor? Are the rod lengths different in 2/3/4k's?

Hey hows it going, After talking to my APD teacher at school today whos is also a boiler maker welder he told me that it would be a "piece of piss" to make an EFI manifold for a 4k-c corolla. He informed me the that it is also a "piece of piss" to weld cast alloy despite some peoples opinions. What would i need to make an efi manifold? a Throttle body? what else. Could i find an efi manifold from a similar engine (similar capacity) and adapt it (grapht) to suit a 4k? P.S he also told me the story of the corolla he used to have, but he had to get rid of it because he had to many problems with the garbage man trying to pick his car up ;)

Probably the wrong site for this, but anyway..... its in a rolla. Recently my car developed a miss in the top end, about 6500-7000rpm. The motor is a sr20de (non turbo)with a gt28rs mounted on it, and 11 pound of boost. These motors run 9.5:1 compression. Any way, the problem persisted, and slowly started to do it further down in the revvs. Meanwhile I'm still revving it to 7000rpm, and attempting to ignore the problem. :y: :y: Anyways,i went and saw my tuner yesterday, and apparently the motor was getting as lean as 16s on the gas anyliser (excessively lean!), so lean that it was missing in the top end, which to me combined with 9.5 comp, 7000rpm, and less than t…

well i want to lower, stiffen and anti tramp the rear leaves about 30mm or so on the ke25, seems like everyone has a different method, some i come across so far: lowering: lowering blocks (not good) invert eyes invert leaves reset entire pack stiffening: add 1 leaf add multiple leaves add thicker custom leaf use wagon leaves (not true apparently) to stop tramp: add half leaf cut off at front clamp front end add leaf now i want the car to handle and from what i can see that would mean a slightly lower, slightly stiffer rear end without too much tramp. the setup on the car: stage1: front low king springs 30mm, monroe gt gas dampers f…

Made my own topic, don't want to get warned for doing the same stupid thing that many others did AFTER admin told them to stop. :) Anyway. I can't help but notice the "two" extra cylinders out of the Toyota V8  are you really comparing a V8 to an inline 6? Alright then, here we go. I presume your talking about the 1ggte, the twin turbo inline six 2.0L toyota engine, that was found in the JZA70 Supras. The JZA70 Supras weighed in at 1586kg, and the motor makes 210hp (156kw) (according to wikipedia.com) On the other side, you are comparing the 'Barra Turbo', the single turbo inline six 4.0L ford engine, that is found in the BF F6 Typhoon. The…

talk about a million ways to do one thing! seems like there is multiple methods of getting neg camber, what does everyone think of them: this is in relation to ke corollas: (ke20 to ke55) but generally applies to most cars. strut: camber strut plates camber / caster strut plates drill strut top different struts bend struts control arms: longer control arms from another car use 2 original arms and weld longer rose jointed control arms re drill crossmember eccentric bush kits other: neg camber RCA's pull strut tops in with strut brace (lol...) replace strut and control arm setup from another car that suits i suppose one major issue is…
