Have a AE86 with a 4AGTE conversion with a Motec M48. Trying to get a Tacho output signal either to run the dash tach or Monster Tacho. Its running the 4AGZE Dli setup and I have done a few searches etc but I thought someone here might have had direct experience with it. Would be nice to find the person who did the conversion and pick their brains about the car. Any help appreciated Regards Keith

Hey I'm putting a k&n cylinder pod filter on my car by instead of the current air box, is it a straight forward installation. Is there any required change of the jets due to the fact that there will be more air flow cause I'm only planing to get a pod as big as the current filter. Cheers

G'day all I've seen it done with ke20 and 25 diff's where people use ke30 axles and brakes and shorten the ends to fit them into a ke2X diff. Will this work for a ke10? I want my ke10 diff a little stronger than it is now just to hold out until i get an r31 or the like diff shortened. Would the ke30 axles and centre in the ke10 be any stronger than factory? And more to the point, will they fit? Cheers - Jono

Now that I'm wrapping up the work under the bonnet I'm thinking of the other annoying little things and one is the play in the driver's side front wheel. When the car is on a jack I can wiggle that wheel a couple of mm, and it seems to be in the end of the rack. The balljoints in the tie-rod ends are fine, the whole tie-rod moves in and out under the rubber concertina. The manual says the passenger's side has a bush in it, but it appears the driver's side runs straight in the rack itself. Has anyone tackled this, and what have you done?? Can it be easily stripped, machined out and a bush made?? Is there a part that fixes it? Does a rebuilt steer…

Well I've bought a sierra halfway through a 4k conversion and wondering which gearbox this is and where I can get the mounts for it? It is a 5 speed, thats about all I know, looks like some kind of adapter plate between the engine and bellhousing.

Hey guys, I have been trying to fix this and suss it out myself but I have no idea on what it is at all and it is starting to bug me :bash: The issue is, when i turn my car of I seem to be getting engine run on for about 10 seconds. The other thing is the car stalls constantly and I can't get it to idle. One thing I havent checked is timing, is this something that could cause these soughts of issues

Hey guys need to replace the front timing cover seal on the crank of the 1980 rs132 corona. when removing the pulley the balancer behind does not have a center bolt??? All i can see is it has a key way and no thread in the centre. Does this mean i just use a puller to get it off? What holds the thing on the crankshaft?? Thanks guys hopefully someone has done this before.

G'day all, Just thought I'd post here a question that I have. I know all you knowledgable and not so knowlegable people will have an answer. As some of you may know i am involved in building and running Energy Efficient Vehicles in a 24hr event (795km on 2 litres of fuel last year). Now that E85 is available, any new vehicle built must run on the stuff this year and every vehicle has to next year. I'd like to get the jump on everyone else so I want to start testing the stuff to see; a. if a 35cc Honda will run on the stuff b. how much more I am expected to use c. what I have to change to stop it melting things. So if anyone has played with the stuff in s…

Hey guys, I recently had quiet an extensive argument with a mate of mine about a NA car vs a turbo car. Basically what I was saying is if two cars lined up to each other and they both were making the same power but differently aspirated (turbo and NA) the NA would have more chance of winning, as the power is all done internally and doesn't rely on a turbo. My boss was saying that it would depend on how the NA car was tuned as in what Cam/headwork/blockwork was done. So what do you guys reckon?

Hey guys, bit new to this.... I'm sure the answer to this is really simple, Ive done a search and haven't really found a definate answer.... I'm wanting to put corona struts/control arms, etc in my KE70 to better my suspension and to eventually do the Hilux/Peugot brake upgrade. What I need to know is what model corona do I need to get the parts out of for them to fit? Is it just XT130? or 131, 133, RT142? Theres a xt133 at a wreckers near me, would that have all the parts I need? or do I need xt130 specifically? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dave.

hey guys ive just recently fitted a surge tank setup in my car. However now my engine is not getting enough fuel as the car is not running smoothly and is misfiring. Ive double checked all the hoseing and everything looks to be in the right spot. I'm thinking the fuel pump is not pumping enough fuel?? Also when i switch the car to start the fuel pump doesnt prime, only until i completely turn the car on then it decides to pump fuel. If anybody can help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi everyone, I've got a bit of a problem at the moment, my car was crashed into on saturday morning in the main street on the way to work. I was not at fault, the car behind me ran into my car while I was stopped as the car in front of me was waiting to turn into a petrol station across the road. As a result my car is pretty much a write off, as the repairs for the car way exceed it's value. But here is the problem, The person who crashed into me does not have third party property insurance and my car is not comprehensively insured, although she has agreed to pay for repairs and/or pay for the car, but as repairing it isn't really viable she just wishes to pay me ~$1500 …

Hey guys havnt really had much involement till now, since I got my first car. My problem is.. At the moment I have twin 40mm solex side drafts. I have been hit by the curse of the solex my ventura(sorry if it's not spelt right) has fallen out of one of my carbs. I am thinking about running a single 40mm carb. Would this do the job with out leaning out or spread the fuel mix uneven? My reason for this is that I have found for the one carb that's working that its putting to much fuel in and it's going to waste, and I can probely build one good carb up out of the two. Thanks guys Chris

hey Well i have got a 76 corolla fairly ruff but minimal rust :) I am planing on doing an engine conversion to a 4age. I have 82 corona strurts and brakes for the front as they are bigger. A 4age out of a ae82 corolla seca arriving soon (very excited) And a t50. So thats the plan so far.. mean while i have a 1982 corona with a 1x engine about to be scraped and i notice that the bell-housing for the 4 speed is seperate to the gearbox itself, so i was just wondering if it is worth saving, will it bolt up to a 4age and what other boxs would suit it? Thanks Corey

So fitting my stainless lines on my AE86. How do you secure the brake line to the strut retainer plate? It is different to the factory style. I'm sure I am missing something obvious. Shot at 2011-02-06 And don't say cableties...... You can see the standard style retainer plate here Shot at 2011-02-06

Hi all, seems that I am asking a new question each week in general mechanical. So I have done an oil change on my smallport 4age. The motor is from a wreckers but goes very hard, from what I gather the odometer said on the wrecker car the engine has done anywhere upto 300,000. I have suspicions it has been rebuilt at some stage. Changed to fully symthetic mobil 1, (my mate kept talking it up) so the car runs fine but oil pressure is all over the place on cold start the oil pressure shoots up to 6 bar (87 psi) and with the slightest tap of the accelerator the pressure raises even higher. once the car is warm it stabilises a lot and goes down to around 3.7 b…

Hey guys my starter motor just died in my ke20. I picked up a bosch one out fo a ke30 as I thought it would just bolt it but it uses larger 10mm bolts that won't for through my bellhousing! Are there different types of starter motors for corollas throughout the years?

Refer to last post Hi everyone, I'm trying to find gland nuts (the big nut that holds a shock inside a strut tube, I think that's what they're called) for AE86 struts, so far places like repco and supercheap haven't been able to get them in for me. Does anyone know of a shop that sells them or can order them in? If not the local wreckers has a T18 sitting in the yard and I was wondering if T18 gland nuts would fit in AE86 struts, or is the thread different? I don't think they would want to sell the gland nut separate so I may have to buy the complete strut, but if I remember correctly T18 struts are the same as or very similar to AE86 struts and thus would make a goo…

Hey everyone, So I've swapped out my old points dizzy for a new electronic one with an internal ignitor. It runs fine and everything but the ballast resistor is causing issues, occasionally the engine dies and I just have to fiddle with the connections on the ballast resistor and off it goes again. I've just had a quick google about upgrading points dizzies to electronic ones and from what I've read you no longer need the ballast resistor once you've upgraded to an electronic dizzy as the resistor is just to prolong the life of the points. So tomorrow I'm going to remove the ballast resistor, but now I'm wondering, will I need to upgrade the coil as the voltage would inc…
