So recently bought and had installed a recon 5k motor, had all my old stuff of the 4k put on there. First question is while wearing the motor in like a grandpa ofcourse I've been noticing when I slighty put my foot down while not under load and in low revs I get a loud almost tapping sound? Second question is it worth putting a 5k started motor in or is the 4k one plenty enough? Think my current one is struggling so wanting to replace shortly. Thank you in advance Scott

Hey Looking at putting a DGV on a Toyota 4y engine, the trouble is that it NEEDS a CAI style duct on the carburettor to hook it up to an LPG mixer and the rest of the air ducting. Just wondering if anyone running a DGV had a CAI setup and where abouts you bought the air duct adaptor from? was it hideously expensive?? Robert.

Hey guys, i recently bought a ke30 and it's auto, i am going to get a manual 4 speed gearbox and i'm wondering what problems i will have along the way of the switch over as it's the first time i will be doing this. i have read some topics but i thought the easiest and best way was just to post this question my self i read this in one of the topics: "The only real difference between them is the gearbox mounts - the ke30 has both - auto and manual mounts. The ke55 has only the mounts for what gearbox was used in the car - such as yours will have the mounts for the manual box, if it came with the auto it'd only have the mounts for the auto. There is other odds and …

Hey All, I am a newbie here. Just come over from datsun1200.com. I have just purchased a T18. L3T, T20. I was wandering what if any motor swap outs(non turbo) can be made easily. I was just toying with the idea of a few more ponies than the stock 1800cc unit or may be some easy mods to the stock unit. This is the first Toyota that I have ever owned that wasn't covered by a service and warranty plan. My daily is a 2008 Aurion SV6. Plain Jane white sportivo package that goes like a rat up a drainpipe. Sure as hell give the lads in their XR6's and SS's a bit of a hurry up :) . Back to my new project- I will be looking for some alloy rims ex factory preferred plus some trim …

Hey guys, just wondering, do you think its worth getting a weld on muffler (Cannon) on a 87 corolla? Looking at spending just around $100. Would it sound alright? or make it sound like a joke? Its automatic.... and i just want it to have a bit of sound. cbf with a full exhaust system. Thanks people.

Hi, Went to remove the inner and outer tie rods on my KE15 today but the adjuster in the middle wont unscrew off them ;) I didn't try to force it as it looked fragile but how is this achieved? What is the best way to remove the tie rods from the connecting tube with no damage. Cheers Cameron

Does anyone know what the differences are in KE20's over the years 1970 -74. Mainly 1972 - 74. I am looking at buy a 1972 and a 1974 as a pair but would like to know the difference. I have heard that they changed Grills, tail lights and front indicators in 73 but was that it? Thanks B-rad

Hi everybody. Have got my 5K in KE70 and it has been misfiring in in high RPM's, more so when the driveline is under load. I have played around with the timing to see if it was that, but can't seem to find a sweet spot. So wondering what other issues may be causing this to happen. Could it be carby? Motor is a worked 5k with 35/75 Cam, ported head, solid lifters and probably lightened flywheel (I didn't build motor) with a 32/36 weber bolted to the top. 160/165 air jets, unsure on fuel jets. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Vince.

Hello, I have this question that has been in my mind for quite a while now (since running twin DHLAs) and thought I might actually as here if anyone has information about it. Basically, when I apply light throttle there is a whistle sound that comes from the carbies. If I open the taps right up, it stops but as soon as I take my foot of (round 0-50% throttle), the whistle is constant. I had a listen to each of the throats with a bit of hose, and it seems to come from all four. Now I was wondering if this is a normal sound with side drafts, or could it be something more...serious ;) ) I have heard a couple of varying stories, yet I really would just like other peo…

ok, YES i have checked FAQ and done some searching but still didnt solve my problem. the story, when i got my ke20 back it had a warped head, so i drove it till it died, the temp gauge went to H and stayed there. i have now put a 4k in and when i connected th temp wire to the sensor it still read H but after about 5 minutes of driving or idling the temp gauge will crawl back to C and stay there, it doesnt move after it has done this, then when i leave the car for a while and start if back up its back on H. i have tried the leave the cap off to let air out of the system, but it still hasnt fixed it, i then i put another sensor in and it still does it. so I'm stuck.…

Hey all, got a real nice and healthy 4k-c 4 speed, which sits in a late ke38. Was thinking of puting a 18R in it, but i've been told its a lot of mucking around for little reward. I was also considering the 2t conversion but its only 13kw up on the 4k to begin with, so that sounds like a waste of time to me. Anywho, as i stated, my 4k-c is in very good condition so i thought why not mod it. The 4k is rated at 45kw on most sites, so i was wondering what the following mods will fetch me: Stage 3 cam, double valve springs, mild port job, extractors and 2 inch exhaust and a set of twin 1.5 inch SU's. What kinda kw's at the fly can i expect... approx???

hey guys, Hoping for a bit of help here. I recently put a 2tg into my rolla and of course expected the fuel economy to be worse than the 5k that was in there. Not this much worse though. Getting 16.5l per 100km under fairly normal driving conditions. Engine has mild cams and head work as far as I know and is running twin weber 40s with 32mm chokes. It was running rich and had machined out 34mm chokes and jets to suit then I got it rejetted with the 32mm chokes but it hasn't made a significant difference. So all you 2tg owners what sort of economy are you getting? And what carbs are you running?

I finished work around 6pm on friday night, and I had to replace a rear wheel bearing and a CV boot on my brothers ae93 after work. I ripped into the wheel bearing first, stopped for a bite to eat halfway through, and by the time I got to the CV boot it was maybe 8:30pm or so... I ripped the CV shaft out, pulled it apart, cleaned it up, took the new boot out of the box and found it was the wrong one!! fat chance of getting a hold of auto one to get the right boot at that time of the night... anyway, as I had to drive the car home, I had to pop it all back together. Now I was replacing the boot on account of there being a small (10-15mm) gash in it and grease leaki…

Hey does any one know what is to much compression for a 4K? My new engine is pinging too much when set to correct timing. If I set timing to TDC it is ok. Engine guy says it is about 13:1 compression ratio. Do I need to run AVGAS? Where can I get it from? Thanks B-Rad

I bought these SUs off Hitoroku, who bought them off someone else on here and never used them, so they are not 'bolt-on-&-go! One was partially dismantled, so I assume the guy HE bought them off never got them to go, and I'm willing to finally sort them out. They came bolted straight onto the Lynx manifold, and I've always seen plastic spacers in there. The LH picture is off a Datsun with its original plastic spacers, the middle one is off Rob's KE with metal spacers he made up, and the RH photo is of mine currently. So do I need them, or do I just use the two gaskets that were back to back in there, or do I grab some polycarb or nylon and cut a pair, or do I…

Hi, Have a "semi-mystery" Diff on my bench in the work shop and I need to know how to measure it so I can narrow down exact model what it will fit etc. Also if possible can some members measure the diameter of the splines on a KE3X and newer diff and a KE2X and KE1X diff and count the splines? I have no spare axles out atm. Cheers Cameron
