Hey guys, I'm having this problem with my engine of late, I'm running twin sidedraft c40 solex's on 4k, andill be driving along not flatfoot or anything then suddenly my throttle will go WIDE OPEN, without any input from me. its not the cable or the linkages. Any ideas as to what the issue could be? ( fresh rebuild in carbs too) -Kim

well the other day i just found out that the linkage between the throttle spring and the lever that pumps the fuel in is missing. so i figured at the moment it would be good for fuel economy but down on horses. at the moment it is just relying on vacum to suck the fuel through, which is why is i try and accelerate fast it tries to die on me and makes the big slurp sound. my question is, is there any disadvantages in the long run of leaving it as is for a while until i can find/make a replacement? please correct me on anything i havent got right. cheers tom

Decided to get new Tie rod ends for my KE70 as ill be running XT130 arms and the extra thread would be nice for adjustments. SO got meself some RA40 ends, went to put them on and realised the 70 ones are a single piece end and Tube. Doh! So off the wreckers i go, Found a RA60. took the tubes and ends and proceeded home. This morning i went to fit the RA60 tubes to the RA40 ends to fit to the KE70 Rack...Pheww :DD. BUT. it seems the Tubes from the RA60 are longer by about 3cm. and to top it off the tie rod ends only screw in half way. making the RA60 RA40 combo like and inch and half too long!!. So back off to find something else. Got some KE30 tubes now.. …

Can someone please tell me what is wrong with my 4KC, if I put more than half throttle down to try to catch up to traffic or to go faster off the lights I hear a ticking sound or something like that. The noise itself is kind of hard to hear over the diff and the driveshaft but it is there, my dad said he couldn't hear it so don't worry about it, it has me worrying though because I don't want to have to buy a new engine for it yet, I'm not ready to upgrade yet and I need a working car to get to and from work. Someone please help, the ticking noise has me worried about my KE70. Further info, it's a 1981 KE70 Corolla. Stock standard everything, with a 4KC engine.

Hey guys. Just wondering in what cases you'd adjust the timing on a car? I've heard that you do after you put a Weber on, but what are other cases when you would change it (apart from when it's out from wear and tear)? Cheers.

Hey guys, I'm having a weird problem with my 87' corolla and if you could offer some advice that would be great. The corolla runs a 4ac, which due to rough running recently got a carb rebuild. I am now tuning it and the idle was a bit erratic. So I disconnected the EGR system for now and that seems to have fixed the problem. When I went to set the timing the engine revs would jump incredibly when approaching the recommended 5 degrees, even after backing the idle speed, and fast idle speed right off. There is no troubleshooting description of this in the manual and I am quite stumped. :)

Hey guys on my two rear tires i have a small egg or bulge on each tire? Their pretty minor (pictured is the worst one) and don't seem to effect how the tires run. Does anyone know why this happens or if i can get rid of it? Ive been told its possible that the tires are not seated corrected? I would usually just get new tires but these tires are almost brand new and are good bridgestones. Since i haven't brought them myself (came with the car) i can't take them back of course. Can anyone give me some advice?

i used to have to run 42psi because i had 185 tyres on 4.5" rims. silly me. now i have some nice wide 6s, i have done a little experimenting with 42psi in the back, the car just bounces around alot. with 38psi it will spin the wheels at first but seems to get more grip and arc up once traction is gained. today i lowered them to 36psi, not a huge difference but i didn't get up it much i raised the fronts from 28psi to 36psi, steering response was noticably improved, the car noses down less, i guess from less sidewall flex? i think less bump steer as i drive around on our shitty nsw roads too so what are some general rules and theories for tyre pressures? what s…

  24. Before you go an embark on the mission to put an LSD into your old schoo Corolla, think about how much it will cost. I didn't, and now I'm regretting it. This LSD had better be God's gift to the world. Remember that on top of actually buying the LSD, you also need to get a diff to suit, brakes to suit, possibly (and probably) new bearings, oil, and all the other stuff that goes with getting a diff set up. My diff center ALONE, to date owes me just under $2500. That's with no oil. The actual LSD was only $1300. $700 for gears, and $450 for new bearings, and the labor to put it all together. On top of this there's wheel bearings, buying and setting up t…

Hey I'm just after a few opinions on options I'm thinking about for my new tow vehicle. The vehicle in question is a YH81R Toyota Dyna 100 dual cab. It currently has a 4y 2200cc petrol engine with a g55 gearbox and a 4.875:1 ratio diff, running 185r14lt tyres. It has engine problems (blown head gasket at least) which mean that I have to pull the head and/or engine out and have a play around with it. I will also be fitting a heavy duty radiator to it as well. It currently is set up for petrol and lpg. When the engine is apart, I'm thinking about the merits of getting the camshaft reground. The cam I was thinking about was a tighe 300AT, with 260 degrees advertised dur…

I've acquired Toyota 5K 1486cc engine. A very basic specimen, missing most auxiliaries and in a rather poor state. My brother happened across an odd looking engine at the local tip. He rolled it over to check the number & $5 later it's on my engine stand. That is what I call a win. My intentions for this piece are unclear but hardly honourable. This is going to be a very slow rebuild as I want to go all places and explore all possible scenarios.... and I'm not exactly a rich amigo.
