On the past months I've been building a worked 5K with the following specs: +0,5mm oversized pistons 2mm oversized valves 290º camshaft with vernier pulley set to max lift at 103º as indicated by the technical sheet 5K/3F solid lifters with 4K adjustable gear Ported head to match the 1 piece gasket Block and head machined, around 10,5:1 compression ratio. Lightened flywheel and crankshaft In order to have a smooth 1st start, particularly in order to run in the camshaft I used the standard dizzy and carb with the main jet of the carb drilled from 0.96mm to 1.1mm. This is how the engine ran: Au…

I'm trying to work out my speedo calibration at the moment, and I'm not sure if I'm missing something, or if I haven't been to school for too long, or maybe I'm right and my original speedo is very off. Basically, I'm assuming my speedo is calibrated for a 4.11 diff. I'm now running a 4.77. I have a terratrip, so have speed readings from that, and basically I know that in comparison to my current speedo, it reads a bit like: real speed - speedo 60 - 80 70 - 90 85 - 110 100 - 130 110 - 140 Or something like that anyway. Now, ignoring that information, I tried to work it out from a mathematical point of view. So I'm guessing it would be: (speedo …

I'm very new at this mechanics stuff. Ive been playing around with my 4k and I've successfully serviced the auto transmission and changed the head gasket so far. I'm working my way through the tuning now. I've got the gregory's manual and the yellow toyota 4k manual. (which you can download here http://www.retrojdm.com/ScanView.asp?ScanID=29 ) The toyota yellow book is very clear, the gregory's not so good. I've found that they assume you know the basic stuff. Can anyone recommend a good generic workshop manual to teach me the basic stuff? thanks

I've just gotten a workshop manual from diymanuals on eBay, and in typical ebay-style feedback, "AAA+++" diymanuals They don't have the workshop manual for my KE35, or I'd get one too. These appear to be the actual Toyota electronic workshop manuals (Mitchell Repair?), has all wiring diagrams, torque settings, troubleshooting and just about everything else about the car too :D

Ok Guys, Some of you would have seen my build ke20. It came with a 4k motor and runs perfect, Only thing is I'm a p plater so as soon as i Finish building it ill need to buy a 3k motor. Not allowed Engine conversions Now I'm off work for a while with a torn calf muscle, And no income. What would a Clean, Running 4k motor be worth? I would like to try trade it for a 3k, But i need money to support the paint now and worry about motor later. Also, Another option i have thought of.. Would 4k internals fit into the 3k with boring and all supporting work done? and would it be worth it?

My vintage x-code 5.6" TRD LSD is beginning to show signs of wear. I've located the correct TRD part number for a rebuild kit--40107-KP611. However, it's listed as discontinued. However again, just because a part isn't being made doesn't mean that part can't be found on a shelf somewhere. I know someone is going to suggest swapping in a AE86 rear and it might come to that...but buying a complete are axle assembly and adding or rebuilding a LSD for it, is going to be big bucks. The 40107-KP611 rebuild kit is listed as being about $150 US. Can anyone lend some advice on how to communicate withTRD Japan or point me to a third party that is good at hunting parts…

Ok, i'm at my wits end with the f@$king car.. so here's the deal.. It's not sucking fuel. It's got a BRAND NEW fuel pump, brand new filters x2 (one before fuel pump, one right on fuel tank outlet), brand new rubber joints for fuel line connections, fuel tank PROFESSIONALLY cleaned out. YES it does have fuel in it. Also, the carbie (standard Stromberg) has had a new needle & seat installed and cleaned out. can ANYONE shed any light on my problem before i give up and send it to my mechanic... cheers, matt :D :D

Okay i know its a pretty silly question but i have searched the web and i havent come across any threads/sites that say if i need to change the master cylinder? I'm stuck between XT130 struts and T18 struts. essentially all i want them for is the brake upgrade in my ke70. I want to know if I have to change the brake master cylinder or will the T18/XT struts just bolt in and i can then run the standard ke70 brake master? i know i have to change over the strut tops and whatnot, as am i aware that XT's are a tad bigger and there are decent upgrades available in the long run. I just want to get my car running... hahahah If i don't have to change the master cylinder …

OK, so I just assembled my XT130 struts and springs and camber tops, using the XT130 LCA's, and TTT AE86 PS knuckle. Put on my 14" wheels and they don't spin? The caliper is not touching, and can't see anything else fouling? Before installing the hubs spun freely? I think the dust shield is pushed up against the rotor. does the AE86 Knuckle move the strut inwards? I'm thinking I have to remove the dust shield, or grind down the end of the LCA(don't want to do this.....)or get a NRCA? Anyone else come across this?

I have installed some XT130 Twin Pots in my KE They seemed to bleed OK, and was firm prior to driving, but now very soft and many pushes needed to get pressure up. 1. Have I done a piss poor effort of bleeding them? 2. Perhaps I need a better/bigger master? Thoughts and comments please?

Hi everybody, I am looking for new engines for my KE70 in my country and I found one use in Forklifts, that is a 2Y engine. Could someone tell me if this engine has the same bolt pattern in the gear box face than the 4K? It can be installed in my car? I found this information at wikipedia --> http://en.wikipedia....ota_Y_engine#4Y Thanks in advance Matias.

Ive been here for... what.. too long now, and ive gotten to know most of you pretty dam well. Somethings have caught my ears and eyes latelly.. well not so much latelly, but here goes anway. Most of us here, the regulars, have corollas - new / old / stock / not stock / rusty / K powered.. what ever it may be. Do you own a corolla becase you like them? because you can't afford anything else? because of toyota's reliability?.. and why do you like your corolla? I like my ke70, because of its unique shape, its reliable factor, the ability to get new parts for it.. well.. most of the time, its simialiries with the drifto Ae86 parts.. etc. Edit by me -> its R…

Thread contents and title changes as I had Zenki's mixed up with Kouki's. :lolcry: Something I discovered on the weekend and mentioned in my projects thread, thought I might chuck it up here so more people see it. I've had a Zenki T series from a T18 laying around for ages which is planned to go into my turbo car. Finally got around the stripping it down on the weekend for a reco and leaf conversion. As soon as I pulled the axles out I though to myself - "They don't look much bigger at all than a stock KE55 axle". So I thought I'd investigate it further....... So I sat the (Zenki and ke55) axles next to each other. And to be honest if I had to pick one as…
