After asking around a few forums and not really getting a good answer. I'm putting my car back together for track purposes and was looking at RCA's and NCRCA's. Now i know majority of people will run a set up consisting of, Longer lower control arms (xt130, sigma etc) coilovers (~8kg springs), camber tops, lock spacer, ae86 PS arms and RCA's. Which gives you, more track, negative camber and reduced bump steer So i currently have t3 camber tops, stock LCA's, t3 coilover kit on ae86 struts (8kg springs, trd yellows), ae86 PS arms, lock spacer and have been considering NCRCA's but the general feedback is not to run them because they are "crap". But they do the same thi…

Neat tip on working out which way you need to turn the spanner etc. Right hand threads By holding your right hand in front of yourself like in the picture. Hold your thumb in the direction you want the nut or bolt to travel. Working as an example on the nut in the picture of the nut and bolt. If you want the loosen the nut, the thumb points up. If you want to tighten the nut, the thumb points down. See how the tips of the fingers point into the palm of your hand (arrows show direction) is the direction you'll need to turn the spanner etc. Uncommon left hand threads are treated the same but with your left hand instead.

ok I apologize if kick down is the wrong name for it but basically I have a ke10 with 4k and 2 speed toyoglide. problem is the way it's been set up it's still running an early carby so has a different linkage I'm suspecting a ke20? problem is I now have a 4k carby and adapting the kick down cable from the auto trans is becoming a massive hassle. now I wanna know is there a way to avoid using the cable? what exactly does it do? and say you were to put an aftermarket carb whether it be down draught or side draught how would you get the kick down to work? it's becoming such a pain in the ass I may just use it as an excuse to go manual but I kinda need to get it moving by nex…

Ok so it's now time to step it up a notch in the backyard mechanic skill set. My 5K engine is slowly starting to fall apart and with the recent addition of a crack in the water jacket, suggesting head warpage I have decided the engine is need need of either binning or a DIY rebuild. I say DIY because of two things, one is that a low K 5K engine is damn hard to find locally and is usually over priced. Or two, the professional rebuilds are too expensive for what it's worth. The head work will be done by professionals as the price is great, $110 - $150 for reface + valve and valve seat re grind + crack test. I paid $110 to do that on my 4k but that was two years ago.…

hey guys, iv got a 83 ke70 with a manual & 5k conversion.. long story short. I was driving home the other day, and the oil light had come on as i was coming up my street, i got home and checked the level.. was full and rather clean. i started it up again and the light WASNT on.. but after a few minutes it slowly faded on again, and the ( rockers? ) were noticibly louder then normal.. so i turned it off again and checked the level.. was still full. I'm guessing my oil pump has shit its self? if anyone could help me work out the problem that would be great!

I will readily admit up front I know very little about carbys, so please go easy if I sound like a bit of a tard! I have a KE35 with a 4k block and 3k head in it. It generally runs quite well, but it won't idle for crap. Generally it will idle ok for a few seconds (sometimes a minute or two), then will start to shake and miss a bit, and then just stall completely. Sometimes it will try and stall as soon as I engage the clutch when slowing down for lights etc, although if I just let the clutch out and roll start it, it will generally idle happily for a little while. If I sit with my foot on the accelerator a bit (sitting at 1500+ rpm) it will sit quite happily inde…

Hi guys, Recently I have Fitted a supercharger to my EFI 5k. The supercharger is an AMR500 with a 70mm charger pulley and a 100mm crank pulley. My first question is about the calculator used in the FAQ/WIKI section relating to the calculation of boost. Has anyone used the calculation and had a correct answer from it? From my initial calculations the answer came out to be a negative boost number because my pulley ratio is too low according to the calculator. From memory my calculation was -0.9psi. So for shits and giggles I decided to whack it on anyway to get the ball rolling on the project and then find a bigger pulley later. To my surprise the supercharger a…

Hey guys, 5k started to make a clack clack clack sound about 5 mins before I got home. The sound is similar to a tappet being out of adjustment but much louder. During driving there was no power loss or decreased driveablility. Initially I thought maybe a bent pushrod had bent but after taking the rocker cover off I see that the pushrods are all straight and are not fouling against anything. What do you guys think this could be? One of the hydro lifers are shot or something worse???? I have a 4k sitting in the shed so I do have a spare motor in case this is a terminal problem. cheers

Ok, before you guy's start flaming me I'd like to explain myself. I'd like to take my car to a few track days and learn how really drive a car sideways in a safe environment. I'm from the northern suburbs of melbourne and the car ( RT142 corona) will be pulled off rego in a few weeks. I know welded diff's are dodgy and break easily but I'm not about to go and spend big bucks on 2 ways etc at this stage on a first year apprentice wage. I've researched the internet and asked around for people who can actually weld a diff and no luck so would any of you guys know of somebody that can weld my diff in melbourne?

Hi RC, Been mucking around with my sprinter lately and been wanting to get back into tinkering with it since moving house. Now my suspension in my KE15 is mmmm seen better days front end bottoms out shocks dead etc. Rear I have standard leaf springs and TRD 8 way shocks set on about 3 atm. Now I was in at road and Track in Ipswich yesterday and started looking at a KE17 that is in the shop atm that is being prepped for circuit racing. Eventually I want to do some track days in the KE15 then just have it as weekend fun car. So I'm looking into doing suspension. Now Terry at road and track said for the KE17 circuit car they softened the rea…

Obscure post of the month If you have bought a 3 Gauge TE27 centre cluster to retrofit into your KE2x and need the plug, it is identical to that found in the dash wiring of a 1975 MS85 Crown. I realise MS85's don't exactly grow on trees, but neither do TE27's

Hey guys, got a new project and having a few problems getting my bigport 4age to run properly in my ae86. MAP sensor'd cars undrivable at the moment, if i give the throttle a real quick hit and bring it up to say 2500rpm it misses and backfires and carrys on, if i move the throttle slowly to 2500 not a problem at all idles like crap (see vid) What ive tried; Have statically timed (everything lines up, cam timing etc) timing is at 10BTDC with diagnose bridged (timing is pretty erratic, 10degrees for 2-3 seconds then jumps to 15 then back to 10 etc etc..) compression check 140-145 on all 4 cylinders checked vac hoses TPS adjusted and i…

I'm wondering if anyone is equipped with a vac gauge and could test something for me, i smashed my 2 dollar handheld gauge when trying to perform a test. I would like to know what reading you get when accelerating from lets say, 20 to 50 kph with standard gentle driving. one might say, thats like asking how long is a piece of string, but in reality the difference between 2 people performing this test on very different cars should actually be pretty minimal.

On the past months I've been building a worked 5K with the following specs: +0,5mm oversized pistons 2mm oversized valves 290º camshaft with vernier pulley set to max lift at 103º as indicated by the technical sheet 5K/3F solid lifters with 4K adjustable gear Ported head to match the 1 piece gasket Block and head machined, around 10,5:1 compression ratio. Lightened flywheel and crankshaft In order to have a smooth 1st start, particularly in order to run in the camshaft I used the standard dizzy and carb with the main jet of the carb drilled from 0.96mm to 1.1mm. This is how the engine ran: Au…

Hello, i have a problem with my ke70... On some occassion's my car will start, but when i turn it off after a while it wont start. it either starts really well and quick or itll crank really slow until it just gives up and then it wont even try to crank. i just had a second hand starter motor installed that was in good condition, my alternator apparently could be better. I thought it was the alternator but i put a brand new battery in and still it didnt start even though it was fully charged. I changed the battery terminals and that didnt work either... needed to be done anyway. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks! :-)

Hi all. In the past I've seen people hunting down replacement gaskets, and often they can't get them without buying a new part (water pump etc) or a complete VRS kit. I may be able to help out, if you can let me know of any you can think of that are a pain to find let me know. Not just Corolla gaskets, any gaskets you've had trouble finding in the past. Let me know if I get enough interest then I might get some made up.

i am changing my standard 4kc carb with a weber 32/36 dgav, and I'm looking at the engine bay of my ke70 wondering on how I'm going to go about installing my carb, what has to go from the engine bay, what holes are safe to block ect ect and what size hosing ill need buy for the fuel line. but i look at this one component and think wut? ill post a diagram pic with my concern, then a blank canvas where you may draw your opinion or how you went about this component and hoses when u installed a Weber, otherwise when you installed your Weber what parts and hoses were useless in the installation of your weber carburetor. Hey there. I've been trying to build my own custom electronic ignition, but it's not working out how I'd planned. I want to get her running for the GOR. So, I'm after a How - To 4k to 4age on carby distributor setup. I have the parts, just need to know exactly what the set up is. I need to know how the distributor is put together. I remember seeing it somewhere when I first started the build but can't seem to find it again. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys. EDIT: for clarification.

hey guys, So I'm having trouble at the moment starting my 4k.After sitting overnight, it will turn over first click. after running the car, and then turning it off after say 10 minutes, the starter motor will tick, after two or three times of turning the ignition, then it wont even tick at all. first i thought it was the starter motor, so i replaced that, checked all the wires running to it, and they were fine. but it is still having these problems. any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Andrew.

Alrighty guys, so I've been doing some research into engine and suspension mods, and there are some common ones people seem to be doing. BC AE86 Coilovers. AE86 Power Steering Knuckles XT130 Corona Lower Control Arms AJPS Lock Spacer Adjustable Panhard bar Is there anything people would recommend over others, or any fairly basic mods I've missed? I'm more or less trying to find out what the common mods are, so I can organise my wishlist, and know what I'm looking for. Cheers, Ethan.

I was wondering on peoples opinions on putting a SC12 on a 16v 4AGE smallport (N/A) So it will be high comp. I'm not planning on running massive boost. What would I be needing to change/upgrade to get it to work. Rough figures on price would be ripper! As its possibly to buy 4AGZE so I obviously I wouldn't want to spend more than one of those cost So what I assume currently is: Bigger injectors- 7mgte or 4agze, is there any other options? New ecu- could a 4agze be used? or aftermarket? Intercooler and plumping setup. Some what modified loom or possibly 4agze one? Not sure what would be necessary here New intake manifold or 4agze or will it fit the standard…

We pulled a strut out whle we were doing other things under there and popped the shock retaining nut off. It is a wet shock, not an insert, factory I assume, so it can be modified to any sort of bump or rebound we would like. However it will never be gas pressurised! The next retaining ring down in the strut has a flat top and 3mm two pin holes, so I assume there is a steel tube tool with two pins sticking out of it that unscrews that ring and allows the whole shaft and foot valve to be removed. Then we can redrill bleed valves or seal them up and change the oil.... Anyone got one for a KE70 or knows what they look like??

I am one step away from walking away from the corolla. To no end this car has given me grief. Some of the problems have been my own doing or things I have overlooked, other times it's plain BS! I decided to go back to standard configuration after the other 4k seized up only to be met by more motoring madness. The engine I got was from a running KE70 and still had all the bits and bobs bolted on including the manifolds. I did not want to take the manifolds off because I would have been making more work for myself, at least thats what I thought. Because the KE70 exhaust is slightly different I had to cut and weld a section to bolt to the rear half of the KE55 exhau…

I will be removing the head this week to inspect the bores etc.. ill post pics when i work this tablet out. Ive been searching for a parts supplier but am finding it very difficult to source bearings, piston rings etc. has anybody found any good suppliers in the past for the more scarce toyota 3ete? cheers
