The massive gap between third an fourth is a pain in my K50, and I wondered if anyone had swapped the earlier gear sets from the Ke30/55 into a K50. While a lot of people say the K40 and K50 have the same ratios, there are several different sets of ratios quoted, even in our Wiki. Going the T50 path would have the same effect, but cost a bundle and give a lot of hassle with K-T bellhousings and heavy gearboxes. So... anyone 'blended' a K40 and a K50 yet??

Okay so I've taken the head off the 4k to change a few things, taken extractors and carbie plus manifold off and all back on now, problem is now when I go to start it it turns over but pops really loud, from the carbie I think and extractors back firing kind of but won't start?! Now I did take the diZzy off so it's not in original spot so obviously timing would be a bit out but still thought it would at least start. Any ideas what would be causing it to pop loudly like this and not start? Started up fine last time I took the head off. Any help would b great, cheers!

Hey guys, Will soon have a 4AGZE big port manifold sitting here. Wonder if anyone's fecked around to get something like a 32/36 fitted to one? Would be the easiest and cheapest way to get a 4age running in something like a KE. No expensive weber sideys or fuel systems to worry about. Food for thought?

I was talking to Ryan (SLO-030), and I was thinking of this. If I was to keep a 4-speed k40 behind a 4K, would it be worth dragging out the diff ratio to 3.9 or 3.7, OR, get a 5-speed k50, throw in a 4.11 diff ratio, but get the 5th gear cog machined from 0.86 to 0.75? I've tried the theory.......(on Forza 3) and a 0.75 5th gear will mean the Revs will drop on upshift like 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th gear does, rather than just an 800rpm difference. It'd be like 1500-2000rpm difference, and even like the other gears. Ryan said there would be no point in doing the 5th gear modification, because you're only going to blow up your gearbox one day, and I agree with him 10…

So just about to invest in some coilovers and i have come across BC v1 race coilovers to fit an AE86, front and rear. Before i order them i just need to know if the ae86 camber top stud pattern is the same as my 83 ke70 and if they will fit into the back aswell because i have heard that the AE86 has basicly the same chassie as a ke70 or AE71 and that they should fit. Could some one help us out and tell me if any modifications need to be made to fit them in the strut towers in the front and rear? Cheers :y:

Car: Ke70 Issue: Carpet Installation Hey guys, I was wandering If anyone had any tips, pointers or how to's on carpet Instalation as I'm looking to install a pre-moulded ke70 carpet that I picked up brand new from www.nobullaccesories.com.au. I attempted to install it last night but it seems surprisingly difficult, also even though the carpet is pre moulded, it's still too wide for the inside of my car, and don't know if I should cut it or not... Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hey guys so I am about to install my 4age 16v Small port into my Ke70, I'm just waiting on a few parts to come in and then shes ready to go. I recently Picked up a Turbo and Stock Intercooler from a 180sx, the turbo is a Garret t28. Ive been told alot to buy a 4agze or 3sgze bottom end, but I'm not really keen to spend that sought of money.. If anyone knows of anybody who has…

I have noticed a lot of people that build their coilovers incorectly. One of the main thing I see that bugs me is the springs ability to remain captive. If the spring is too short can this be fixed by getting a taller spring with the same rate? I normally mention the SW20 MR2 struts for the shorter stroke, but sometimes it isnt enough.

Hey guys, About 2 months ago I was fixing a rather big exhaust leak where the 2 pipes go to one, So after looking at the exhaust flange (the nuts were so rusted on we couldn't get them off) we had to remove the entire carby manifold setup etc. After doing that and replacing all the parts (gaskets etc etc) it was running really well for about a week or two. Then it started to only run when the choke was half or fully open. So, first, we tweaked the idle screws abit with no luck. Then we started looking into the hoses, after replacing all the important hoses with new ones it was still happening. Finally we found the problem by running a carby rebuild kit in it and it fixed…

Hey Guys So the Princess' 55 hardtop is in need of a new dizzy cap, rotor button and points. The current dizzy cap is a Bosch. My question is as follows coz the dizzy cap is a Bosch does that mean the dizzy itself is a Bosch and I have to use all Bosch replacement parts or is there a better product out there that will suit the application. I don't know if it makes any difference but the dizzy has 2 vacuum lines coz she is an auto.

Ok guys, I've begun to source parts for Maxi's rebuild.... because I will stretch my budget I can't afford to pay for labour (all u money hungry members can push ur back button now!) so I need your help... and to make it even better I thought we can make it into a Rolla Help / Tech day.. were we all can learn how to put in suspension shocks and springs.. replace a bush or 2, put in a slave cylinder and bleed it, plug a WRX Turbo on a custom made manifold and plug up all the oil lines. I hope this doesn't sound like a win win situation for me alone... frankly it is because I get help on something I don't know.. but I think it would also be a win win situation for s…

yo fella's. i got a reconditoned 32/36 webber the other day and as fook knows we had trouble getting a adapter plate for it. so i made one and fitted it to the yella terra today, and wow! the acceleration has so improved so much! it is great. it goes better, sounds tougher and looks the part with that gorgeous ram-flo air cleaner, but it still a couple of flat spots from about 1/3 - 3/4 throttle. i know it's in the tuning but i am not sure how to tune it. the primary mixture is done, i just don't know how to tune the secondary mixture, anyone have instructions, idea's or experience with these carbys??? thanks

i used to have to run 42psi because i had 185 tyres on 4.5" rims. silly me. now i have some nice wide 6s, i have done a little experimenting with 42psi in the back, the car just bounces around alot. with 38psi it will spin the wheels at first but seems to get more grip and arc up once traction is gained. today i lowered them to 36psi, not a huge difference but i didn't get up it much i raised the fronts from 28psi to 36psi, steering response was noticably improved, the car noses down less, i guess from less sidewall flex? i think less bump steer as i drive around on our shitty nsw roads too so what are some general rules and theories for tyre pressures? what s…

i was thinking of turbo'ing my camry i just replaced the 3s-fe which now has 42000 on the clock so it is only low kays so what i was asking what would be the cheapest and/or the best for performance to do put a turbo/supercharger on, or to da a turbo/supercharged engine conversion, and if this what engine will bolt in with no or little modification to engine mounts etc. i was thinking a 3s-gte or a 4agze or something along those lines.

First up I may as well introduce myself... Ah my name's Rod for all the difference it makes on forums... I have a 1981 Ke70 CSX with a 4K-C. Its got dished mags and a sunroof, its been resprayed bright blue. I'll get some photos of it ASAP like when I get a camera. I also have a KE20 with a 3K and I've heard about how the 3K head has higher compression and can bolt straight on to a 4K. The KE20 is unreg and blows heaps of smoke. I want to put the 3K head on my 4K-C, is it easy? How do I do it? Do i have to bore any of the valves or anything like that or can I just chuck it straight on? Can I then put the head from the 4K-C onto the 3K block in the KE20 just for the s…

Hey Guy's, Picked up a reconditioned (new bushes etc.) 4K electronic dizzy on eBay the other day for a song ! I'm as happy as a pig in a mud bath ! Question, There are two wires that come out of it into a green plug. Do these normally connect to some other ECU module that Toyota fitted to the 4K engines with electronic dizzys, or is there more switching electronics in under the little black cover inside the dizzy, so that the wires directly connect to +ve 12V & & the coil etc ? I've unfortunately never seen a KE55 with an electronic dizzy setup. My Gregory's 184 manual only describes the points dizzy setup & wiring diagram onl…

i'm putting a little clacky electric fuel pump in my ke25, i'm just trying to figure out a place to mount it. the instruction say something like "engine bay bad, next to tank good", so engine bay is right out (but the stock pump is there?) so far i've found out that i should mount the plastic pump to the body with rubber mount points (stewart just cut up some old radiator hose) and i should give it some air space to aid in cooling i could mount it in the boot, next to the tank on the wheel arch or the parcel shelf support or behind the back seat, however this would be loud in the car, and i'd have to cut the factory aluminium pickup hose which i'd rather not do …

I've just gotten a workshop manual from diymanuals on eBay, and in typical ebay-style feedback, "AAA+++" diymanuals They don't have the workshop manual for my KE35, or I'd get one too. These appear to be the actual Toyota electronic workshop manuals (Mitchell Repair?), has all wiring diagrams, torque settings, troubleshooting and just about everything else about the car too :D

While up at Caloundra for Coastal Challenge and ARC last weekend, I was speaking to Tony (driver of TRD KE70), and he mentioned that he thought the stock gearbox ratios were more suitable to a 4.77 diff for rally and other similar sort of events that had a big variance in speed, and that the close ratio gearboxes were only really suitable for high speed stuff because of the huge 1st and 2nd gears. Or at least that's what I understood from our conversation anyway :) Does anyone (Rob?) have any opinions on this?
