Before I say this I'll say I don't know exactly how a alternator works exactly, so forgive me if what I say sounds silly. I was just thinking about superchargers and how they need to be run either from a belt to the engine or with electric motors, so I thought, if you hooked up a separate alternator to the engine and then somehow connected the energy created from this to run the SC, would this allow it to run better/harder due to the alternator using less KW from the engine than if the SC was directly connected to it? Or would you need the alternator to power something which would run a belt to the SC which would probably mean there is no point unless the power gaine…

Hey guys just after your opinion On the weekend I thought I would have a look at my carby as it won't open the secondaries and always idles high so I had a look to make sure all the vac lines were on and had a play with the levers and things to see if maybe anything was seized or loose couldn't find anything wrong Now it started running better after I played with the levers and things and idled at a normal rev so I was happy then on my way home from work it started playing up a lil bit then I it's started idleing high again and then all the sudden just dies and other times it just looses acceleration This would be meaning the carbys shagged and needs to be replaced …

Okay so I've taken the head off the 4k to change a few things, taken extractors and carbie plus manifold off and all back on now, problem is now when I go to start it it turns over but pops really loud, from the carbie I think and extractors back firing kind of but won't start?! Now I did take the diZzy off so it's not in original spot so obviously timing would be a bit out but still thought it would at least start. Any ideas what would be causing it to pop loudly like this and not start? Started up fine last time I took the head off. Any help would b great, cheers!

Hi all, For work I have had to look through a lot of Australian Standards for some market research I am doing. I ended up getting a bit side tracked with Standards for Automotive Modifications. I stumbled upon this page: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi_15_engineering_signatories_november_2010.pdf If you scroll down, there is a list of registered Engineering Companies for NSW, VIC, QLD, SA & WA which may be helpful for some people. I know in WA, there is a separate page on the WA government's site for Automotive engineers. So this may only be helpful for NSW & VIC people. I did search, but couldn't tell if this had been posted before…

I am currently looking at a set of rims for my ke11 and I cannot decide if I should go 14" x 6.5" on front, or 15" x 6.5" then on the rear 14" x 7.5" or 15" x 7.5" If you look at the pictures below I have plenty of room to spare if I get the inside of the guards professionally rolled there should be plenty of room and that is the height it will be staying. I will also be keeping the original rims and tyres for those odd occasions  . If someone has some pictures or experience with this size rim on a ke1x vehicle I would like to hear your comments, pros and cons. thanks guys and gals :y:

Ok. So, the water pump pulley on my 4ag was worn. I bought a JASMA pulley kit to suit 20v/16v. Bought a 20v water pump also as they are shorter (to help it line up) The water pump pulley sits about 4mm foward to the standard crank pulley and alt pulley. And the crank pulley from the kit is about another 4mm back from the standard pulley. Am I missing something? Should it all fit??

  25. Sooo I just paid $250 for my first Toyota - an 82 Liteace "WAGON" van. 4k, 4 spd column. And I love it! I want to go lower with white walls (spray can home job most likely) so it's a nice little cruiser. After I've fixed the gobbling up the water and overheating issue. Now I've found lowering blocks on eBay in 2 - 2.5in which seems the way to go for the back, but I don't know what to do about the front. Does anyone know if there are any interchangeable springs with the Liteace? From any AE or KE? Because then I can get the King Super Lows off eBay, and maybe cut them to match the lowering of the rear. Cutting the stock springs will be a last resort.. …

Hi guys I'm pretty new to this whole corolla scene. I have recently purchased a ke70 as a daily, and it has a bit of oil in the water, and I'd say it needs rings at a minimum. I was just going to do a 4age swap but because I didn't research enough before I bought the car (should have loomed for an Ae71, it appears) and the fact that I live in Mackay (not exactly easy to find parts up here), it's going to be easier to just rebuild the k motor. Now I don't expect monster power from the thing, but would like it to be able to power up the range and be able to overtake safely. What kind of mods should I be looking into that won't cost me a fortune, but will give me good ba…

It's just done a head gasket and while it's apart i'm wanting to match port the head to the inlet manifold, install an electronic dissy, and up the compression to 11.1, i've read stuff on the net about the 5K having dished pistons and not much head height or something, is it possible to deck the head enough to achieve this much compression? or will i crash things? Ideally i'd like someone to say, take XXX thou from your head and you'll have 11.1 compression, but i'm sure it's not that easy? Also, can i use…

  37. Neat tip on working out which way you need to turn the spanner etc. Right hand threads By holding your right hand in front of yourself like in the picture. Hold your thumb in the direction you want the nut or bolt to travel. Working as an example on the nut in the picture of the nut and bolt. If you want the loosen the nut, the thumb points up. If you want to tighten the nut, the thumb points down. See how the tips of the fingers point into the palm of your hand (arrows show direction) is the direction you'll need to turn the spanner etc. Uncommon left hand threads are treated the same but with your left hand instead.

Hey guys since I've changed my wheels on my ke26 I have noticed more so (it was like it before also) that at the rear the passenger side is 10-15mm higher than the drivers side. Sounds stupid but is this because someone has always sat in the drivers side for 40 years and the driver side leaf has slightly sagged? Or are there other variables that effect ride height? Its not the shocks as they are completely farked. Troy
