Just a quick question would there be any advantage to removing my muffler from my standard 3k powered ke20?? this is for a khanacross event so street legal does not matter. I was thinking about cutting the muffler off the car and welding flanges on to the exhaust and the muffler so i could just replace it with an exhaust tip with a foot of pipe on it instead of a muffler..

often working on a 30-odd yearold car, you undo a bolt and the thread is all full of crap. i always worry about stripping threads out (god knows i've done enough of them), so i like to give them a clean and a spray with inox before putting the bolt back in cleaning the thread in the body or part isn't usually a problem, you can grind a bit lengthways out of a bolt and wind that in, cleaning all the crap out, or i've even gone to the massive several dollars expense of buying M6, M8 and M10 thread taps, which i just quickly wind in and out and get all the gunk out nicely bolts are another matter not really wanting to spend like 20 dollars each on the accompanyin…

ok, got the extractors and 2" all the way with 1 muffler put on yesty. prob is, the car runs like crap, I'm pretty sure its the carby, the idle is rough and drops about 200-300 rpm, and then gains it back plus more, etc etc etc. also there is a big flat spot on acceleration, so I'm guessing the carby is really munted. mate has a weber that i will try when i get the adaptor plate. also, got new rotors put on the front, and the pads are still brand new, was wondering does it take time for the brake pads to adjust to the new rotors?. cause my brakeing power is still really low, thanks

hey peoples, a quick run down again.. i have ke25 with a 4k and a 4 speed... ive fixed 3 oil leaks so far... oil pressure switch, sparkplug tube o rings, and now the new one. i don't know what the part it is called (fair sad concidering I'm an part time apprentice mechanic) anyways it is he huge cover (crankshaft cover, or timing??) that starts on the left of the waterpump ang goes right along the front of the motor to the bottom (under the waterpump) anyway i can see that it is quite a job to replace this gasgate (leake up near the water pump) and i was wondering what i have to do to fix it? looks like it is kinda simple, just take the belt off, and the pulle…

Was looking through my "new" corolla earlier and stumbled apon all the orgional books. Turns out it was a dealers car. Not only that but with the manuals was an "emission control and maintenance guide" in which part if it lists what cars should run what ron fuel. tercel with 3a-c engine 97+ ron corolla with 4k = 89+ corolla with 4a-c = 97+ sprinter with 4a-c = 97+ celica with 2s-c = 97+ corona with 2s-c = 97+ camry wiht 2s-e =97+ supra with 5m-e = 94+ cressida with 5m-e = 94+ crown with 5me = 94+ This got me thinking, what was the ron of leaded fuel back then? If anyone wants a cop of the stuff i'll find a way to scan/upload i guess.

Got these Aisan Iso SU carbs. The guy that I got it off said they 1.5" SU's from a Datsun, but when I rubbed a bit of grease off they were Aisan instead of Hitachi's. I think they might be off a sports version of a corona, 1600S or mk2 or something. The code on them is HF40D. The bolt pattern per carb to the manifold is triangular (3 bolts, 2 upper 1 lower) The manifold looks like it is heated one. Maybe the SUs were taken off a corona and put in a Datsun. I've search the net and looked in books in the library but can't really find much about them. Does anyone one know what these came out of, and what they are like? Bruce

I was at the wreckers a few weeks back and took afew pics of two cars which i think may have been a rebadge. Just thought it would be interesting to know. I was clearing my phones memory when i found the pics. The cars are: Datsun 120Y (Coupe) & Chrysler/Mitsubishi Lancer Front In person the front looks almost the same. Rear Its basicly the same shape, I don't have pics of the tail lights but they are similar. Side See the door handle/locks are in the same place, the antena is in the same place, its even got the little window at the back and the roof line is the same.

Is it true that the 4A-C has a compression ratio of 8.8:1 and if it is what is the easiest and cheapest way to bump up compression, without going down the forced induction route. I realise that this will be illegal on my car as I am on my P's but will the boys in blue be able to tell?

hi does anyone know of an exhaust manifold ( not extractors) for a 4kc motor that has twin outlets, the ke70 i have has a cast iron exhaust manifold that has a single pipe outlet, i would like a twin outlet. the motor and 5 speed gearbox slightly warmed is going into a Honda S600 roadster, also using the corolla rearend but narrowed, i'm using twin 1.5 inch su carbys. i don't want to run extractors unless there is no other option, if i could get a twin outlet cast iron manifold that would hopfully free it up enough. any thoughts?????? regards Ewen

came across this test on the motec site.. might be of interest. http://www.motec.com.au/fueltest/index.htm I've been using V-Power racing in the 4agze for a couple of months now and it loves it. used to ping off it's head, now it's great, smoother and more get up and go. could even dial in a couple of extra degrees of timing.

Hey guys, I am currently in the process of re-doing my front brake and suspension setup using XT130 struts with 2spot calipers and coilovers. :D Have all the parts I need for the conversion apart from new shock inserts for the XT130 struts as the ones that were in the struts when I got them are rooted. I thought that all was going to plan, however, just before I went to order the inserts today, I realised I had a problem. What strut tophat and insert do I use? I realised that the XT tophat has a slightly larger bolt pattern than the KE one so it won't fit the KE strut tower and because my car still has all the stock suspension gear in it, I am unable to see if the XT…

Hey guys just want to gather some info on a strut/brake upgrade for my '74 KE25. I have a TA22 diff to go in the rear so that is taken care of, I'm not really that fluent with suspension terms so please bare with me lol. Basically I wanna convert my KE25 to 114.3 stud pattern as I have some 14" meshies to go on it. Could anyone shed some light on this as I'm not really sure what the easiest/beneficial path to go down is. Could I convert the KE25 struts to 114.3? I have read that you can use TA22 struts? Could I use RA28 struts as I have a complete RA28 rolling Shell. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Tally

Hi guys, I'm having some trouble with getting some pushrods for a 5k. We bent two last season and have been chasing some replacements, unfortunatly with poor results. The local toyota parts department got us in what they called a 5k pushrod but it ended up being way too long compared to what we took out  . The ones we had in the engine measured 150.5mm from the tip to tip and 8mm in diameter and looked identical in design to the "new but too long" ones toyota gave me, so the ones from the engine where definatly a toyota looking item. I tracked down some crow cams ones which are bloody strong but may be causing some valve train problems :hmm: . I'd like …

Hey guys.. Whenever I put my clutch down, it makes a stupid noise. It's not a grinding it's more of a high pitched squealing kind of noise. It doesn't affect the driving at all but it makes my car sound like it's come straight out of a cartoon... Also, I've got a whirring noise coming from my wheels or something... I'm not sure where it's coming from but I know it's under the car cause I can hear it past 50km/h. I've searched on the forums and found one post that suggested it could be a wheel bearing but I'm thinking it's the diff because something similar happened in my other ke70 and I changed the diff and it went.. but I'm not sure if it's the same thing? Any s…

just wondering when people convert from 4agze to 4agte 1.does the computer run the engine well (such as fuel & timing)??? 2.whats your experiances??? 3.i have a tunned aftermarket ecu for a 4agze would it start and drive well enough before a full tune on a 4agte??? any1 done this or turboed a 4agze and took chargwer off as I'm intersted how your car went as its a common modification i would love to know how your cars went cause I'm guessing the vacume, time to hit boost, timing and fuel would differ from supercharged to turbo thank you

Hey guys, I'm new to the whole SC14 game. I have seen this supercharger on any other cars before and i wanted to give my car a shot. I'm currently trying to put this on a Ford TX5 V6. but i have a few questions (Sorry if these questions have been asked before, but I looked for three days.. even on other sites but didnt find out much) First Question. Does it matter what way the pully spins? -because, it spins both ways, so does it matter what way it spins? I'm sure it goes clockwise? what side is the right side up? (what side is top) Second Question, In the red there are those VAC lines, there are now Three So what do they plumb into? I k…

My K-50 had been making a whining bearing noise in 1st,2nd,3rd and 5th gear so my mechanic said come in and i will teach you to pull it apart. We thought it was just a dead bearing but when we pulled the countershaft, which is the shaft that runs parallel to the output shaft in the gearbox and where the bearing operates for the gears on the shaft and it has deteriorated creating the whining noise. Has anyone else come across this? Is it common problem? Here are some images of the shaft out of the gearbox and an image from my Toyota chassis manual, only in the manual it doesn’t have the section of bearing steel in which the bearing runs on in my gearbox. Any advice or anyo…

hey guys, i am looking at supercharging my worked 5k witch is currently in a kp starlet (i no this is a rolla site but the motors are the same biggrin.gif) a mate of mine has done it to 1 of his 4k's. but whati want to do is, will i be better off running a webber carb and jett it to work as a blowthrough setup, or go for a set of 35mm sideys and make up a custon intake plenum attached to them. the charger is going to be a toyota sc12 or sc14 and is going to be intercooled via a factory S14 silvia 'cooler. i no i am going to have to get a new cam for the motor as the one in it at the moment is just far far to aggressive (will bearly idel it so lumpy but i just lov…

My new weber didn't have a spot for the pcv valve and I would have to make one up on the manifold. My question is; whats the service interval for oil changes without the pcv valve? If its really low I will get the manifold sorted to take the valve, if its not so bad I just won't worry about it.

This is going to take a bit of explaining so here goes; Got my 32/32 weber on the car and the adapter plate has a hole through it that is a long oval but the manifold that it connects to has two small circular holes. So the air from the carby goes through the adapter then hits the inlet manifold where it has to go through 2 holes and hits a bridge of metal in the middle. Now my mechanic has suggested I take to the inleft manifold with a file/hacksaw or something similar and turn the 2 holes into one oval as per the adapter plate. This is supposed to decrease the air flow restriction and give me more power essentially for free! Sounds good to me. Does this make sense t…
