  1. hi, my ke20 (3k) wont actually fire up while I'm cranking itover, it only fires u when I crank it and then back the key off a little, is this normal for an old car as out old datto 200 ute did the same thing, my uncle seems to think its beacause the ballast resistor (think that's what he called it, something about dropping the voltage from the coil to the points??) isn't there, it seems to start and run fine but he said it will burn out the points real quick. I have 1 here from a mazda 1300 I'm wrecking, (its a white thing with a spring looking thing inside) but its pretty old and prob stuffed, ca I still buy them new and can some 1 pls show me a diagram of how to wire…

My car won't start now after mucking with the ignition system while testing my tacho I'm making using a micro controller. When I touch the lead from the dizzy to the coil I get sparks. The lead measures 0v between it and ground and the pole it attaches to measures a constant 12v between it and ground. Could anyone give me any pointers as to what to check for a broken coil or ignition module? I haven't got much experience with this type of ignition system unfortunately. Thanks

Hello all, First time post, long time reader. I have AE71 with JDM 4AGE bigport conversion. Car is running and driving fine except for a problem with the revs. I have checked fuel pressure it is a steady 40psi through surge tank setup with over 3 litres/minute flow through upgraded 8mm feed and 6mm return. Wiring has been completed using posts on this site and apart from a couple of little hiccups initially it fired up pretty much straight away. Thankyou to those who provided the knowledge! It has new coil, plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor. All of which were cross referenced at time of purchase to make sure they were the right ones. All earths have bee…

  12. Hi everyone, 1984 Corolla KE70, stock engine and everything, battery less than one year old. No issues but shortly after installing a remote central locking kit the battery kept dying. Cheap aftermarket kit mind you, and I wired the power directly to the battery in the engine bay. Is the likely cause of the drain the remote central locking? If so - Is it the continual drain caused by the remote aspect always sensing? - Could it be a problem with the unit itself? - Is it the poor wiring? Should it be connected to something else? - Would a larger battery compensate for the drain if it is caused by the remote sensing? If anyone can provide me …

Hi, Both headlights on the old lady's 1997 Corolla wont turn on. The low and high beams are fine but the normal headlight wont turn on. Ive checked the fuses (under thr hood and under steering wheel) but I couldnt find one which relates directly to the headlights - I might be blind though. Something else which is odd is that the high beam light on the cluster comes on when turning on the headlights (despite not turning on the full beam). Tail lights are fine. Any ideas? Cheers.

  15. Hi guys, My son has a KE70 with a 20V in it, running a Microtec LT-A computer. Last week it started running like a dog, high fuel consumption, stalling, wouldn't idle. We replaced the plugs, new coil lead, new dissy cap, new rotor. Still no good - replaced the plug leads and all good. Has run well for the week but now similar problems. When checking the timing we have noticed that the light flashes irregularly on all 4 plug leads but perfectly on the coil lead. We have tried the coil in another car and it is fine, Any suggestions as to what may be the problem as we are really scratching our heads. Dave.

Hey, I was looks for a quick and simple power upgrade. My 16v 4age has had some minor head work, (port polish and grind), iridium plugs, 2" sports exhaust, Airpod, Turbo muffler, always run 98 oct premium fuel, 100% synthetic oil and all filters changed. Power steering and A/C pumps and belts taken off too just to get a few extra KW. I was thinking about getting bigger cams.. 272 deg and HKS cam gears but need to get an after market ECU Eg.. Haltech or something. The cost of getting one is quite a bit not to mention getting it tuned so going to hold off and maybe get a Gze from a Levin ae101 or something (all just thoughts for now) So another thing is that …

hey lads, got the car all setup sweet and running, no dramas earlier but now the charge light is on. running a 3 prong alternator off the 3tc into a ke35 wiring loom, was running the charge wire to the B+, swapped to unknown/unable to see wire and charge light went out, that was from a selection of 3, one being b+, something and something..... burnt out my multimeter, in all honesty i think ive dropped a cell in my battery as its about 4 years old, small shit and occasionally starts and is charged heavily,... but any other likely cause of this situation before i buy a new battery?? cheers

Hey guys, As the title states I'm having trouble with my headlights. The parkers work, dash lights all work but no headlights. When you try to turn the headlights on the highbeam light comes on on the dash. The only way the headlights work is if they are in the on position and you hold the stalk back like your flashing high beam. If you try to flash the high beam in any other position the headlight relay makes a buzzing sound. I've tried changing the stalk and relays but nothings changed. All earths seem to be good...... It's really starting to annoy me as I can't drive at night. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ben

  32. Anyone in hobart area have a spare working ecu for a ae82 4age 16v blacktop i recently put in another motor due to killing last one :'( it all worked fine and purred like a kitten but the battery i had in it was fubar and i think i might have killed the ecu from trying to start multiple time on the fubar batt... Reason I'm thinking the ecu is buggered is due to engine will not start on a fully charged batt and when i bump start it it runs poorly and the in dash tacho dances around on idle and when i rev it the tacho goes down not up... :\ so I'm wondering if some1 in or near hobart might have one laying about that i could try out and maybe even sell if that ends up being …

Hi all, I recently changed the stereo in the car (new head unit and speakers). A few weeks after this the fuse for the interior light started blowing. Ran a multimeter over it and it is trying to pull 27.5 amps through a 7.5 amp fuse. WTF! Tried removing the clock and cigarette lighter (on the same fuse) as well as removing the head unit. No change. The really odd part is when the car is on and you turn the parklights on the clock will work, even with no fuse installed. I'm hope that there is someone out there who can give me some ideas as to what it could be, or at least what could be drawing that sort of amps that could cross paths with the inter…

  39. I've install a 100 amp alternator out of a Nissan patrol gu. With the only modifications need to be done it remove the clutch pulley which any good auto electrician can do and you may need to hack saw the battery post down because it may hit on the engine mount. Depending on what size belt u run Also you will need to make a small jump wire out of a piece of 3 or 4mm wire with a push terminal on one end and another terminal to go to the battery post. The push terminal goes to the source terminal in the plug.mark "S" Also don't forget to plug the existing single plug in tho the illumination terminal in the alternator plug marked "I".
