  1. Hey Guys, I currently have a 1976 Ke30 Corolla with a 4K, I'm wanting to spend a little bit of money but not too much to get some more power to it. If someone could give me an idea of a starting point as I have no idea where I should even begin that would be great. Maybe even if someone lists everything I should do that's worth it, I'd greatly appreciate it. Cheers.
  2. Hi Guys, So i have been posting lots of random questions and i thought i would just start a build thread so i have a central place to find info and share the build. Thanks to Altezza and a few others who have been super helpful so far. I found a 67 rolling shell which had been sprayed and was relatively rust free on fleabay and it had been sitting in this guys shed for 7 years since the work was done. He had cut out the dash and widened the tunnel to take a sr20 and then run out of cash. Plans are just to get it back on the road and then start getting things together to start from scratch (want it to be Matt black rather than purple) So anyway since i have had it is have done the below. Drove to bundaberg and cut the dash out of a rusting away car - also salvaged front seats Found a 4k which i have now started to strip and have everything out of except the crank (can't get the bolt off so any suggestions?) Sourced a k50 in really nice knick - thanks Clapped out for throwing in the free clutch Got twin 1 1/2 SU's and a lynx manifold (yet to mate the two together) Should have rear seats and all cards shipping from Melbourne this week hopefully. Pulled the rollcage out (I'm too tall to have the drivers seat where i need it and still pass engineering) I work about 80 hours a week so progress might be slow but i do have a good 10 day stretch to get some things moving and I'm planning on jacking it up and seeing what running gear i have, think it might have ke50 front struts so might post some pictures see if anyone can identify. Anyway here are some of the pics so far and ill post more as i get to things.
  3. I know a lot of people aren't interested in playing around with the stock K series Aisan carburettor. I reckon they're tops and if it wasn't for the ridiculous cost of a rebuild kit and a dip in the acid bath, i'd spend my days rebuilding these little gems. I've handled a quite a few 3k and 4k variants but i'm looking for any information on jet sizing in regards to the 5k version. I know there are variations between each and every carb but sizing on the idle, mains and power jet would be great. Below are my ke70 4k and ke30 3k carbs.
  4. hey guys I'm a 19 yo 3rd year apprentice mechanic, whose just bought a little 4 door KE30 with a 3k and a four speed behind it. the rings are shot in the fourth cylinder and its full of oil. blows a little bit of blue smoke, but the cylinder four plug is caked in oil. (hence why i think the rings are cactus) i have a 4KC Engine sitting here and wan't to throw it in but i was just wondering is there anything i should tweak out of the car? ( i thought i could play around with the higher compression of the 3k head on the 4k block ) but any suggestions would be super, cheers.
  5. Hey guys, I've been looking around through a few threads and can't quite seem to find the answer I'm Looking for. What I want to do is convert my points ignition to an electronic one, however, in preparation for a future engine build I'm looking at doing it with MSD gear. What I'm looking at are these; http://www.msdignition.com/Products/Coils/Stock_Replacement/8203_-_Blaster_2_Coil_w/Ballast___Hardware.aspx http://www.msdignition.com/Products/Ignitions/Daily_Driver/6425_-_Digital_6AL_Ignition_Control.aspx http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/toyota-3k-4k-5k-corolla-electronic-distributor-ke10-ke20-ke30-ke55-ke70-ke38-k-/111272845830 The car has a Bosch Distributor and changing the points often is giving me the S@#$&, as the car starts to run rough. Looking through jackbyo's write up (http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/46089-how-to-install-an-electronic-distributor/) will the same instructions still apply with the gear I'm looking at? And Is there anything I'm overlooking? Excuse the noobness, I was working on EFI dunnydores before making the switch. Cheers in advance

  7. so here i am, the fat beareded non santa that should be but not really... I'm 6'3" and 120kg with a ke35 and all i want is to do dirty mutherʞ©$ɟing burnouts and love this car. ive just had to put the neighhbours dog back in their yard and fucck..... so my story runs.... ke35 off a mate years ago, rust and injury free apart from a Tbone in a drivers door...... other than that and a ʞ©$ɟing mega stack of beers ive started. origninally i built this weapon to run a 5k i bought fro a ke70.. loved it.... minimal issues, got the car running and registered for a dick weed mate who drove it round. he finally got a work car and i took it off the road to put a 3t in it. ʞ©$ɟ!!!!!!! man what am i doing swapping gold out for pewter?>!?!?!?! that motherʞ©$ɟing 3t had more bark than alot of 4cyls and yet still I'm a ʞ©$ɟing retard to hold back...... sold the best engine i had for some garbage rebuild 5k and thats where I'm at.................. Now,........ Anyone whos half cluey with 40mmdcoe twins with my setup i need some love. ive just built a 40thou over 5k bottom end, crank, rods and slugs balanceds, the compression ratio I'm running is with 5k solid slugs which have been cut down to give me 11.6:1 compression ratio I have phill duggan making me a tropppo cam to suit the head flow and compression, but now my issues is what the ʞ©$ɟ do i do with with my 40mmdcoe webers................ Blown4k off clubk says run big venturies..... now my issue is well this is the last step before cam install in my engine.................... but i want to start with the right carb setup. anyone half cluey who can help me out would bew aw0esome because I'm about to set these carbs up to suit this engine. the cars a bucket of shit..... alll go no show but i can't wait to have some little k motor on the streets
  8. Hey all, I have recently come into possession of an 1984 model ke70 and the starter motor has seemed to have a pretty hard life and has decided to give out. So now I'm chasing a starter motor for it, I have called up all the local wreckers and haven't been able to come across anything except an ae82 with a 4ac. I was wondering if the starter motor off this would fit my 4k or would even the internals swap over into the 4k starter motor? Thanks for any help
  9. hey guys, I've got a stock 4k-c and I'm wanting to put a single side draught webber onto it. Just wanting some suggestions on what size to use with a possible cam/exhaust upgrade down the track, or will I need to do extractors with the webber? thanks
  10. Are 4AGE flywheel bolts the same as a 3TC? I'm looking for ARP flywheel bolts for a 3TC. When I search on ebay, bolts are advertised with the part number 203-2802. When I look on the ARP website catalog the part number refers to 4AGE. http://beta.arp-bolt...p?RecordID=1138 I've compared 3k and 3T bolts. They are both M10 with the same thread. Just the 3T bolts are slightly longer (~0.7mm) and has a more beefy head on it. If 4AGE flywheel bolts could fit a K engine, then they should fit a T.
  11. So I'm looking at converting my KE70 sedan auto to a 2jz possibly, (otherwise looking at the holden 304/308), what I'm after is some idea of what i'll need to buy to do the conversion, eg gearbox and engine mounts... It has a welded stock diff and completely stock apart from the rims and flat front conversion. Relatively new to the rolla scene, used to be in the commodore group. I also have a supercharged v6 commo engine sitting around at home, but i'd like to stay mostly toyota. Any help would be appreciated, cheers
  12. hey, ive got a 4K with a 5 speed, and there is a small leak from where the trans bolts to the engine. not sure what it could be. could someone please help me. is there some sort of seal that could need replacing? thank you :)
  13. Hey Guys, I want to make this thread to talk about 4K builds! Everyone post your *K motors and what you have running & even post ideas, people want to know what the K motors love! Even I want to know.... personally i don't know much about carb motors nor the K series motor, so if you guys were to explain how you think to make Hp 4k's What I would think you would do is simple. Port & polish the head Aggressive cam profile 7k crank bore out to fit 5k pistons have a fiddle with the carburetor (Fatten up the mix) High flow extractors and exhaust Port intake What's your idea? Cheers Dylan
  14. Hi all,was hoping to get some advice on a problem with what appears to be a gasket that goes between the inlet and exhaust manifolds which is partly missing (see photo). I have heard that you can get some exhaust repair paste that could potentially be a quick fix, but thought i would see if anyone else has had issues with this before (i haven't been able to find much info on this gasket, even the workshop manual i have doesn't seem to mention it in the inlet/exhaust manifold section). Thanks in advance
  15. Ok so i'm starting my 4k build soon and have read the tough 4k wiki many times and it mentions the 4k block with ribs that are stronger.Does anyone have a pic of the ribbed block for comparison ? I have a block here with small ribs under the welch plugs but i'm unsure if it is the correct block i want to use. google images isn't really helpful plenty of pics of 4k's but not much of that specific area of the engine. A decent amount of money will be spent on my motor and i don't want to throw it all away on a weak block. Also i have found part numbers for ARP head studs on the net and already have ARP flywheel bolts but haven't been able to find anything on ARP rod bolts that work i have read talk of 3sge fitting but nothing confirmed does anyone know part numbers of anything known to fit? they are probably unnecessary but i'd rather build it once right and have piece of mind knowing it will hold together. Thanks, Haydn
  16. Okay so My 4k dies out every time I do the smallest skid When I open up the engine bay I can't see any fuel in the lines some I suck some trough to get it gaining again but I want to have it working right I've replaced the fuel lines and filter in the engine bay Any ideas on what I is Fuel pump maybe ?? 17. When we moved into our house we found two fibreglass bodies for hotrods, 1 a32 ford roadster 1/8 scale and a 34 ford roadster 1/4 scale, So, we figured with our leftover go kart bits and some tubing wed make a really biiiig model, heres the 32 build up so far..... So with the chassis done in 1/4" steel square tubing we mounted an old axle and full set of go kart wets then prep on the bodyshell, (It was pretty bloody rough too!,,) Then it was time for some color, My boy is a big CHIP FOOSE fan and I'm sure his paintscheme will, reflect this.... Now its time to pinstripe it and on with some clearcoat and a little bit of trimwork,( Or should i ESKY the thing?) also head and tailight setup, and windscreen pipes etc...
  18. Does anybody know the Factory deck height for a 4K. I have searched around and found either 195mm or 196mm. Cheers - Matt
  19. I've install a 100 amp alternator out of a Nissan patrol gu. With the only modifications need to be done it remove the clutch pulley which any good auto electrician can do and you may need to hack saw the battery post down because it may hit on the engine mount. Depending on what size belt u run Also you will need to make a small jump wire out of a piece of 3 or 4mm wire with a push terminal on one end and another terminal to go to the battery post. The push terminal goes to the source terminal in the plug.mark "S" Also don't forget to plug the existing single plug in tho the illumination terminal in the alternator plug marked "I".
  20. Hello, I posted this in my rides thread but ill put it here too, I have recently put a weber 32/36 on my 4k and fitted extractors at the same time. The carby came off a 18RG? i think. I can't get it to idle stable. It seems to be very rich at idle. Have attempted to tune according to basic settings and will continue to surge at idle and when backed off from accelerating will drop and nearly stall. I have checked: 1/ Ignition timing - 10BTDC at idle and advance is working on acceleration. 2/ used starter spray to check for air leaks, couldnt find any. when i replaced it i replaced all gaskets including manifold gasket and used aviation sealant on carby and adaptor plate gaskets 3/ Have checekd jets, it has Primary/Secondary 140/135 mains 160/175 Air 50/55 Idle 4/ it idle very well before carby swap It has an electric fuel pump fitted which worked on standard carby with no problems My questionsn are 1/ Shoud the air jets be larger on the secondary instead of mains? 2/ Do i need a fuel return line, at the moment i have blocked it and i suspect this may be a problem? The red arrow is fuel in The green arrow is blocked fuel return the blue arrow is the vac adavance hose 3/ any other suggestions? Please see youtube video of what it is doing,
  21. Hello Guys, Question on the 4k intake manifold. I'm fitting a weber 32/36 and have an adaptor plate. As i don't know as much about carby stuff i thought id put the question up here. My adaptor plate is an oval shape however the ports (i guess you can call them that) on the manifold where the original carby bolts up is two circles, one smaller than the other. My question is, if i remove the centre of this to make it the same shape as the adaptor plate will this help or hinder air fuel flow? Photos show what i mean. The part shaded in red is what i would be removing. Before After
  22. ]Hi guys, heres our '67 Ke10B Race Car, Dad and his mates had some pretty wild old 'rollas many years ago, so we decided to create a tribute to everyone who used to play around with them as most of everyones bits, parts ,cars; etc still survived it was just too tempting to put it all in the 10 for a bit of cheap fun on the weekend...... We found it sitting in a paddock after 9 years, heres a few pics of how it was found Brought the car home, started to dis-assemble so we could see what she had to hide. Intentions are to turn it into a budget Hillclimb, Circuit and Sprint car. It seems to have been modified in the '80's judging by the aftermarket seats we found in it... It didnt come with an engine or gearbox, but appears to have had a 5sp in it as the trans tunnel has had extra holes cut in it. With the intention of making it a track car, we plan on widening the track of it, and putting a Ke70 front end in it, it will be "K" engine powered to kick off with hence the thead name, but with lots of mods to increase power handling etc.. Upon putting it in the garage, we pulled it apart, and found it had a bit of rust hiding. A few plates and an attack with the welder seemed to do the trick more to come...
  23. I'm being given a 4k and a bigport 3k. I'm going to put bigport head and manifolds on the 4k (if in decent condish) seeing i have it. Basically i need to know what things need to be changed to fit in ke10 to keep the standard gearbox? its a daily so id prefer to know what needs to be done before changing. Will the standard 4k flywheel/clutch etc work with the standard ke10 4 speed? Pretty sure thats the only thing that I can think of that may need to be changed. Cheers,
  24. I was doing ablog but i decided to can that and put it here where it shoudl be.... Hey alll. Ive had this car for a while and have been deciding weather or not to spend time and money on it when i have a silvia that is already pretty quick. Ive finally decided to give it a crack and see how i go. Started with: 4k-c 4speed manual noisy as hell diff and gearbox electronic fuel pump Planning to build a car that will be good for motorkhanas and maybe khanacross see how it goes Gonna stick with 4k, mostly just recondition everything nothing too crazy. Mayb cam grind Have a set of extractors to fit - DONE 2" system from extractors to back - DONE Weber 32/36 - DONE Gonna run sigma LCA's - DONE Coil over sleeves at this stage standard brakes reset rear springs minor body work (not tooo concerned on making it look schmik as but that might change later) strip interior - DONE hydro handbrake - DONE welded diff - DONE k50 gearbox - DONE Modified S13 front strut brace fitted
  25. Hi everyone, the corolla you can see in my pictures, the bluey greeny ke55 is starting to blow alot of smoke and the engine is being a right pain in the arse ever for a 4k with 180,000km on the clock. decided to do an engine conversion on it, but I would like people with more experiences advice. What engine should I put in that would give me the best results and be the easiest to put in my lil rwd beast. Thank you all in advance David
