Hey. Is there anyway you can stop petrol splashing out of the feul tank. The KE70s don't have a valve to prevent splashback around the feul tank thing. I just did a bit of work removing the rust and getting it looking nice and was wondering if there was a way to stop it from happening again. Eg installing the valve. Thanks.

Probably the wrong site for this, but anyway..... its in a rolla. Recently my car developed a miss in the top end, about 6500-7000rpm. The motor is a sr20de (non turbo)with a gt28rs mounted on it, and 11 pound of boost. These motors run 9.5:1 compression. Any way, the problem persisted, and slowly started to do it further down in the revvs. Meanwhile I'm still revving it to 7000rpm, and attempting to ignore the problem. :y: :y: Anyways,i went and saw my tuner yesterday, and apparently the motor was getting as lean as 16s on the gas anyliser (excessively lean!), so lean that it was missing in the top end, which to me combined with 9.5 comp, 7000rpm, and less than t…

Hi there, Looking at getting into some cheap motors to learn off. Firstly, Ive tried searching, but I can't find out much about the differences between the 4AC and 4AF blocks. From what Ive read, it is possible to bolt on the 4AGE head onto a 4AC block, but what about a 4AF. The reason for asking is that my workshop manual (Toyota 4AF 4AGE Repair Manual) only covers the 4AF model. Are the blocks the same? I would hate to torque up the bolts to the wrong specifications etc etc. Secondly, are the mounts similar/the same as the 4AGE mounts? Mates have a broken Corolla with a dead 4AGE, can I drop the 4AC/4AF and test it out? (Ignoring road rules for the moment) …

Hi, I have a 3K bigport head sitting on my desk at home that I want to give a rebuild so new guides, acid clean, skim, polish, port etc. But I was curious what is the best way to remove valve guids from a head? What temp should I heat it up to if I need to heat it up and do corolla ones get pushed down out of the head or up out of the head towards where the rockers would be? Cheers Cameron

  11. Hi, Now in my HUGE collection of starter motors I have this one below on the right: Now these are both BOSCH early model starter motors. But notice the front section on the right one is longer more casting ribs and different solenoid housing casting. Is the one on the right a reduction drive starter motor? Does anyone have a picture of a reduction gear starter motor? Also the one on the right is a fair amount heavier. Cheers Cameron

  12. I was reading a for sale ad on AE86DC, what caught my eye was that somebody said the RWD 4AC pump and rear housing were the same as the RWD 4AGE variety. Since I happen to have both I compared the 2 and yes they are almost exactly the same, the main difference I can see is that the bit which the cam cover seal is supposed to sit on is different between the 2. Obviously this means you can basically get a RWD water pump setup for your 4AGE of your old 4AC. The biggest snag I can see is the FWD top water outlet wont match up to the RWD water pump housing :no2: . Now I'm not sure if anybody has tried this before but I had an idea to fix the problem. I've taken a few pics on …

hey guys, recently i have been having this rather nut case idea of stuffing the M42 engine out of my BMW that i am wrecking into my ke11.. now i think it is a wierd combination and didnt think it would fit but took to it with a measuring tape the other week and all seemed like it would fit in.. now the engine itself is a 1.8ltr Dohc 16V bmw engine which would give the old 11 a bit of poke to it and from intial enquiries it would be a legal conversion.. now i generally am not one to go for different engine outside the toyota family but this engine has some decent power and is just sitting there at my place and it powered my 1300 odd Kg Bmw quite well and I'm su…

Hi Guys, just wanted to get your input on a problem that i have. I have a 91 GTi corrolla, with 17" vault rims and recently i had to change the 2 front tyres. Ever since the new tyres were fitted, i noticed that everytime i go over a speed hump or pot hot, even small ones, the tyres actually scrap against the inside of the guards which is annoying. It happened even before i got the new tyres but more frequent with these new tyres. I bought the car last year second hand and I'm pretty certain that it has been lowered, don't know if it was properly lowered or the springs were cut. Therefore i just wanted to get your opinion on the possible causes and solutions. …

  16. Have a look at these pictures - I was just reading THIS THREAD and there was some dispute over whether or not to replace flywheel bolts. Personally, I've always been a fan of replacing, and the one time I didn't, the damn flywheel fell off. Today I had to get some longer flywheel bolts, so I whacked a thread gauge on the old one to check the pitch. While not paying much attention to what I was doing, I couldn't seem to get a thread to match. On closer inspection I found..... Here's another picture, it actually sticks out like dogs balls! In the second photo, you can see the necking of the bolt, where elongation has made the bolt thinner. The reason …

Hi all, I have bought a secondhand 5k motor today out of a Liteace van, and I noticed that on one side of the sump there is a solenoid with a wire coming off it, also along the manifold side of the head are some small pipes that screw into the cyl head. :S So if anyone has an answer about what these two things are used for, then that would be awesome. :y: :bash: as my other 5k in my ke20 doesn't have this stuff. Is this 5k I picked up today a later or an import motor????? Cheers, Mark. 8| :y:

After seeing many unknown camshaft profiles for sale lately I have been pondering on how to actually measure the camshaft. So I decided to try to make up a contraption and see how I go. After finding bits and pieces around the workshop I slaped them together to make this: So I gave it a quick measure and came up with these interesting specs: Exhaust Spec Camshaft duration at .005" lift =220 degrees Total Lobe lift = .224" That duration just did not look right what so ever so I checked and double checked. Went on the net to see if I could find anything out and I came accross an article that stated that alot of companies over exagerate thier…

Now I don't know what to believe. The big top secret Pedders does not want anybody to know is that their shock absorbers are made by Monroe. As we all know Monroe Shocks are way cheaper than Pedders brand shocks and are the same thing with red paint on them instead of Monroe blue!! Their front end parts are all made in Taiwan, in the cheapest factory Ron could find, re-boxed and re-badged with the Pedders logo on it and sold for top dollar their polyurethane bushes ar…

  36. Hello, I have just fitted a 2nd hand Weber 32/36 dgav to my 4ac. I have a few troubles i'd like to pick peoples brains on!! The carb: "meant" to be freshly removed from a 4ac, so should be jetted correctly.... The problem is it idles at about 2000 rpm, idle screw turned off (not touching the throttle lever) idle mixture screw set at 2 turns out, ive tryed a 1 and 1/2 and less doesnt seem to make any differnce. I have checked for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner - no difference, saturated the carb and inlet manifold etc.. It also wont go to what - it just bogs down and then stalls.. I have adjusted the fast idle so it doesnt interact with carb, ( it was idling ev…

  37. My heap of junk suzuki appears to be losing spark to ground inside the distributor cap intermittantly. I think it has been doing this for some time, you drive it, and every so often it misses a beat, or has a "hiccup". It deteriorated badly on the weekend, and the problem was traced to an open circuit high tension lead. The high tension leads are less than 2 years and 20,000km old! Anyway, the rest of the leads appear ok with a resistance of 1.5k ohms to 3.0k ohms, and I have now replaced the lead with a bright red new one.... when the lead died, the spark for that cylinder was jumping to ground on the distributor body. I have replaced the distributor cap (twice now) …

I have a bit of a dilema. I'm currently running a weber'd up 4AC KE70 on my P's. It's a good little car, around 90hp, plenty to play with. Despite of this, I will be upgrading to a 4AG when i'm off my P's and onto open in a bid for a bit more power. The question lies in whether I should go for Carbs or Injectors? The two options I am tossing up is a directly transplanting a small port into the car (the usual 4AGE conversion), or to go with the 16v head (and block) with twin 40mm solex's/weber's/dellorto's. I know the biggest concern with the carbs will be the fuel consumption, but that is something that does not conern me greatly. Plus, I have a bit of a soft spot for …
