Alrighty well I had a bitch of a time doing this so I thought I'd put up a guide specifically for k engines. I've got an otherwise stock 4k-c engine in a 1980 ke55. before you start - i'd like to say that I'm pretty much re-writing a guide on toymods on this topic. I'd also like to point out that this I'm writing this for people like me who are new to the world of auto-electronics. If you're electrically minded you can probably skim over a lot of stuff here. If you ruin your engine or anything I take no responsibility... i don't know how you could do that, I'm just saying. There are other ways of doing this, such as finding a dizzy that suits that has an inbuil…

I have created a new sub-forum specifically for car electrics, Please feel free to post your questions here. For those of you that may not know, I have recently started an apprenticeship in automotive electrics. I'm still learning but I have a fairly good knowledge of certain things (KE70/AE71/AE82/AE86/Starter Motors/Alternators etc). Even if I don't know the answer I can possibly find out through my boss and co-workers if you need an answer on something. Keep the posts coming.. Oh and by the way, If you live around Brisbane I may be able to help you out with auto electrical work..

Hi, Just re-assembled the engine after some maintance work. I got a short circut by misstake on the alternator when i was putting it back and now when everything is on its place again i saw that the charge lamp was lighting. Havnt done that before, and after checking the voltage on the battery it stays the same, around 12,3, when the car is off and when I start up the car. So seems like something have to be wrong with the alternator? Can the short circut have killed it? What to check? I know its hard for you to help with so little information but really need some help here. All the cables should be in the right place, well it can't be connected in any other w…

Hey guys, I bought a 1993 AE96 Corolla last weekend, it's stock as a rock and still in granny spec. I pulled the dash apart today to put in a new CD player and in doing so I somehow shorted the constant power to earth (when this connection was made the headlights came on) and now the car will not start. I have ignition power but turn the key and nothing happens, no relay or anything. Is there a fuse somewhere I have blown? I have checked all fuses in driver's kick panel and under the bonnet (I think). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Chris.

I've recently acquired a European zenki TE72 GT instrument cluster. I'm hoping to figure out the wiring so I can properly get it installed in my 1983 AE71... I have the US wiring book - it shows the wires going to each specific pin on the plugs. I'm looking for this same section for the 1980 TE72

the other day, I was installing a replacement rear demister switch in my ke35 and I managed to blow the demister fuse because the new switch was stuffed. With a blown fuse, the car wouldn't idle properly and would stall. Obviously I fixed the problem with a 20cent fuse but it just had me wondering if it's normal or if my wiring is a bit odd. thanks Peter

I was looking for some replacement switches for the door lights on my ke35 and came across these, which were perfect. They're a grounded 12v switch which plugged in and screwed in to the existing cable and hole. The car shops had nothing suitable and I found them at an electronics shop. They came from Altronics in Perth. item number S 5145 $2.45each

So my 4k is in getting rebuilt. I purchased an electronic dizzy with inbuilt ignitor. I want to run a tacho and I'm wondering how do I go about wiring it in now I don't have dizzy points anymore? I've never wired in a tacho so I'm just trying to get my head around it. I'm sure I could just dump it on an auto elec but I want to do it myself. any ideas/suggestions?

Was hoping someone could help me with a couple of questions regarding wiring a 4AGE into early KE30 2 door sedan. I'm primarily using the AE82 schematic. Its not 100% accurate but after studying the FX-16 diagram and ditching the AE82 relay fuse box I'm nearly there. 1. KE30 Ignition barrel is single poll where as all the 4AGE wiring diagrams I have show duel pole, AM1 and AM2. Ive used a relay from the AM1/ IGN1 to switch in the AM2/IGN2 power with 30amp fuse at the fuse link box at the battery. Is this how its usually done? I couldn't find any info. 2. How do I wire for 2 pumps ( LP and HP ). Can I use 2 relays latched parallel by the COR (blue/black wire.…

Hey, I was looks for a quick and simple power upgrade. My 16v 4age has had some minor head work, (port polish and grind), iridium plugs, 2" sports exhaust, Airpod, Turbo muffler, always run 98 oct premium fuel, 100% synthetic oil and all filters changed. Power steering and A/C pumps and belts taken off too just to get a few extra KW. I was thinking about getting bigger cams.. 272 deg and HKS cam gears but need to get an after market ECU Eg.. Haltech or something. The cost of getting one is quite a bit not to mention getting it tuned so going to hold off and maybe get a Gze from a Levin ae101 or something (all just thoughts for now) So another thing is that …

So with moving the throttle body post SC, it kinda makes a self feeding loop where the SC keeps the AFM open which keeps the SC on which keeps the AFM ope which keeps the SC on....and on and on. The only way to make it shut off is to put the clutch in and take your foot off the go pedal till the AFM closes. Or turn the SC off with the switch I put inline. Kinda annoying. Played with a budget solution. Got a voltage switch from JayCar. The issue though is that when you come off throttle the SC would turn off so the plan was to use an interior light dimmer circuit to keep it open for 'x' seconds to cover gear changes. Came needing a few bits assembled. …

Hi all, I've been away from rollaclub for a while, at the moment I am building an AE71 with JDM bigport and JDM fuel tank. I am stuck with too much confusing information regarding the wiring. I have a circuit opening relay. I have one of these http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=SY4076&CATID=79&form=CAT2&SUBCATID=979#1 And i need to know how to make it all work Ive grounded the earth wire from the fuel pump in the boot I also came across this: White/Black - Wires to to STA - Starter/ECU Start Signal. White/Red - Wires to EFI Relay - +12v Ignition Switched power (Run through a suitably sized fuse, 10A is us…

Hi all, I'm wanting to install a dry cell/AGM battery in my ae102 rally machine, but I'm not exactly sure which one to get. I've heard that Odessey batteries are the go, but I thought I'd ask for some expertise first. Any recommendations as to what I should be purchasing and where I should be be getting one from?

Hey guys, I'm pretty new here but this site has helped me a lot. You guys are a wealth of knowledge and I really appreciate any advice i receive. I am currently trying to get my S14 VCT SR20 powered KE70 to start. I've been doing a conversion over the past 6 months or so and now pretty much everything is finished and ready for the road.....except for probably the most important aspect; the engine will not start. I may be in over my head when it comes to the electrical side but I am committed to finishing this project. I have the SR20 engine harness, gearbox harness and ECU, and I also have all the original looms from the KE70. I ran power to the KE70's igniti…

I really wanted to be able to switch my SC on easily, reaching for the switch on the dash was getting tedious. I also wanted it steering wheel mounted for thumb operation. So I went to Jaycar and got some coiled cable and a temporary on button. Found an old fender mirror thing which I bent and cut into kind what I wanted. Tested to see how the button would fit. Contact adhesive and cheap black vinyl.

Hello! Attention: My english is not good, but I hope you get my point I'm 17 years old car enthusiast from Estonia and I'm having a problem with my KE70. This winter something happened with kick panel fuse box, I opened it and saw that some of the circuits (aluminium parts) had blown. It melted the plastic around the circuits and the fuse box is now a pretty big mess :D, so I don't know which circuits to solder and which not. I would be very thankful if someone, who has the same fuse box, would disassemble it and take pictures of different layers there. I found possible problem and fixed all the wiring harness, so I don't think that the circuits blow again…

I know it's not a corolla but I'm hoping someone can be of help. I'm having a major problem with starting my charade and I've traced it back to a weak spark coming from the coil. Just cranks over and doesn't attempt to spark and when I pull a lead out it has a very weak spark. Tried cranking with the coil lead earthed and again, very weak. Plugs are white as the KKK. Checked fuses and they're fine. It's had trouble starting before where it's taken a few cranks and struggling to start. I was wiring up a tachometer and fiddling around with wires under the dash. Started the engine fine, then turned off for about 3 seconds, then would just crank with no at…

Hi there, I'm after some help for my 1981 KE70. Iv searched for ages and can't find anything of value. I need help with the fuse block located in the engine bay , the one in my picture. I have the plugs that go into the body loom, but don't have the other plugs. Can someone please help me out. I need to know what pins to use and what they go to?. On the bottom of the fuse block cover are numbers that correspond to the pins, but I don't know what they go to. Any help much appreciated. Iv had no luck on my usual New Zealand site Club-k. Hopefully some Toyota fans can help me out on here. Thanks

Hey guys I've been going through the posts and can't find a few answers.. I have an ae92 csi corolla hatch that I'm putting a GTI cluster and dash into, I'm curious what oil pressure unit I need? do any of the stock loom plugs fit into the cluster? If not, what do I need to do? Also my car didn't have a stock tacho and the GTi cluster does, can I use the signal wire I was using for my monster tacho for the GTi tacho? Or is it already In the stock loom? Thanks again

Ok, so I've got this really rev-happy race engine on bike carbs and I'm after a tachometer that can match the revs with minimum jittering and lag. It's kinda hard to find information on this online because everyone's into fvcking turbos these days and throttle response is literally laughable (everyone I talk to laughs hysterically at the ludicrous idea of an engine actually making power, WHEN YOU BLOODY WELL WANT IT). What are some good starting points to look at? What are the racers using? I'd like to see it in action to gauge responsiveness before committing to buy and go to the effort of fabricating a cluster surround.

hi all i have just recently bought a ae82 with a blacktop 4age engine installed.the problem is that it has a auto gearbox and is driving me mad.I'm looking at converting it to manual but I'm not sure if the auto ecu will be ok to use with the manual gearbox. do i have to bridge anything out at the ecu in order for the standard ecu to work? i have been told that the auto and manual wiring harness plugs are different. any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
