Hey i've got a 4k with a set of sidedraught 40mm dellorto's on it. the motor just seems to keep poping when cold and hot and just runs like a bag of shit. i was just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this. i was thinking of rebuilding the carbies or piss them off and just get a 4 barrel holly. Also the setup of got is basically a rebuilt 4k 300degree cam extractors 2 1/4 inch exhaust the twins when they run right somtimes, elec ignition port and polished head. With all of this do peoples corolla's fell pretty decent i can't rip a doughnut in the dry yet my stock as a rock 1.6 liter gemini can do it easy both have locked diffs and the the corolla just can't do it.…

Hey there. I've been trying to build my own custom electronic ignition, but it's not working out how I'd planned. I want to get her running for the GOR. So, I'm after a How - To 4k to 4age on carby distributor setup. I have the parts, just need to know exactly what the set up is. I need to know how the distributor is put together. I remember seeing it somewhere when I first started the build but can't seem to find it again. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys. EDIT: for clarification.

Hey hows it going, After talking to my APD teacher at school today whos is also a boiler maker welder he told me that it would be a "piece of piss" to make an EFI manifold for a 4k-c corolla. He informed me the that it is also a "piece of piss" to weld cast alloy despite some peoples opinions. What would i need to make an efi manifold? a Throttle body? what else. Could i find an efi manifold from a similar engine (similar capacity) and adapt it (grapht) to suit a 4k? P.S he also told me the story of the corolla he used to have, but he had to get rid of it because he had to many problems with the garbage man trying to pick his car up ;)

Lately my car has been having a few heat issues when driving, normally it used to sit just above the 1/3 way mark, lately its been hitting half way and jumping to the last mark on the guage before the overheating mark. Replaced the thermostat today and it still did the same thing going up the highway, the guage is all over the place, anyone had temperature troubles with a 4K-C before? any suggestions as to what it might be? had the engine apart 6 months ago and the head gasket was changed then, only other thing I can think of is to try torque the head down a bit more... (suspect it has been chewing some water lately so i'm going to have to keep my eye on it)

Hey guys, Alec here, been around here a little bit and now i need some help please! I have 3 Ke70s here and a spare engine, one a daily and two parts cars (all 4K-Cs). I want to send one of the heads off to get it machined and new seals and stuff. SO, when i bought one of the cars i got a spare engine with it, i pulled the head off it and the coolant inlet thing (don't know what its called) looked like this so i thought, oh god, its rooted. So i disregarded it and it sat it in the corner. then i went out to my first spare parts car and pulled the head off (i drove this car back from Cairns, so i thought it'd be all good) and the inlet thingy…

Hey guys. Tuesday morning when I was about to leave for work my sev died whilst I was warming it up. It will turn over but won't fire. Got the RAA around last night to see if I could get a diagnosis, he told me that my fuel pump ha packed it in. Got a new pump from Bursons today, the pump itself is exactly the same as the one on the motor at the moment, except it doesn't have a return line. It has the hole where it should be but it doesn't lead to anywhere and the inside of it isn't threaded. But it came with the necessary return line fitting. Have I been given the wring pump?

Hey people, put my rolla on ULP finally has done around 180k's on it so far but it has to go in to have the timing adjusted and have a tune! it lasted around 100k'm before any problems now it pings (rattles) under load! and takes a while to actually die when ignition is turned off (aparently called advanced ignition or timing or something), And it takes a little longer to turn over when starting but can't complain! Seem's to have more power now, although i have to fix the overheating problems! (will start with a new thermostat and go from there)

Hey guys, I got a 4ke injection off teddy on here. And i i would really like to get a workshop manual or something, so i can hook it all up or any information. It doesnt look that hard to me to hook it up. I got some pages from a big workshop manual, but i only took out the corolla stuff, it was from back in the day when i was a mechanic, because i thought it might come in handy, but i only took it all out because i had a ke55 for a paddock basher. Now I'm not sure, where i put it all, but i know it is amongst all my corolla and valiant stuff somewhere. But yeah, any information will be good thanks :lmao:

  16. Hi, Was just looking at the heads off a K motor and I know the 4K-E head had smaller ports than the normal 4K head (this is for any K motor just using 4K as example as it the heads I have). And was reading about the 4age motor that said the small port made more power due to increased velocity through the ports. So researching the 4K-E setup I saw that the 4K-E had more torque. Is this due to smaller ports and for a hotted up K motro would a smaller 4K-E head be better to use so we can get increased air velocity into the K motor? Thanks Cameron

I have a KE55 2 door coupe running a stock standard 4K-U engine. (Heron head with dished pistons) I have gone through all the common experiences of constantly having to attend to the points, or run the risk of the rubbing block wearing away and point gap diminishing rapidly. Anyway, managed to get hold of a 4K distributor with reluctor triggering. The distributor does not have the ignitor built in like some of the later 5K electronic distributors. The distributor did not come with an ignitor, so I looked around and picked up a brand new Tridon model TIM015 on eBay which is suppose to be a direct replacement for a common Bosch ignitor. Unfortunately it didn…

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find forged pistons, and cam's. I'm sure I can still pick up a gasket kit etc. Also I did a quick search looking for a 4kc build but there doesn't seem to be anything. So any advice you have will be great. hi does anyone know of an exhaust manifold ( not extractors) for a 4kc motor that has twin outlets, the ke70 i have has a cast iron exhaust manifold that has a single pipe outlet, i would like a twin outlet. the motor and 5 speed gearbox slightly warmed is going into a Honda S600 roadster, also using the corolla rearend but narrowed, i'm using twin 1.5 inch su carbys. i don't want to run extractors unless there is no other option, if i could get a twin outlet cast iron manifold that would hopfully free it up enough. any thoughts?????? regards Ewen

I am one step away from walking away from the corolla. To no end this car has given me grief. Some of the problems have been my own doing or things I have overlooked, other times it's plain BS! I decided to go back to standard configuration after the other 4k seized up only to be met by more motoring madness. The engine I got was from a running KE70 and still had all the bits and bobs bolted on including the manifolds. I did not want to take the manifolds off because I would have been making more work for myself, at least thats what I thought. Because the KE70 exhaust is slightly different I had to cut and weld a section to bolt to the rear half of the KE55 exhau…

Hi guys, Just having trouble sourcing a rebuild kit for my 4kc here in oz. Wondering if there is any company around that can supply me with rings, mains, big ends, all seals & gaskets for a stock standard freshen up to my little 1.3tr. Preferably here in Oz, as I know there are companies in the US that sell stuff for Starlets, but the amount of hoops you need to jump through & paperwork one company want is ridiculous. Has anyone here had much experience with the Toyota 4M motors, carby version? Are they as easy to work on as say, a Corolla 3k/4k motor? I am somewhat looking for Cressida or Crown which runs a 4M, but I don't want to get something that is a nightmare to work on, particularly seeing as my mechanical knowledge goes no further than a basic service on the holden V6's, and the 4AGE motor.
