ok I apologize if kick down is the wrong name for it but basically I have a ke10 with 4k and 2 speed toyoglide. problem is the way it's been set up it's still running an early carby so has a different linkage I'm suspecting a ke20? problem is I now have a 4k carby and adapting the kick down cable from the auto trans is becoming a massive hassle. now I wanna know is there a way to avoid using the cable? what exactly does it do? and say you were to put an aftermarket carb whether it be down draught or side draught how would you get the kick down to work? it's becoming such a pain in the ass I may just use it as an excuse to go manual but I kinda need to get it moving by nex…

Hey guys, i recently bought a ke30 and it's auto, i am going to get a manual 4 speed gearbox and i'm wondering what problems i will have along the way of the switch over as it's the first time i will be doing this. i have read some topics but i thought the easiest and best way was just to post this question my self i read this in one of the topics: "The only real difference between them is the gearbox mounts - the ke30 has both - auto and manual mounts. The ke55 has only the mounts for what gearbox was used in the car - such as yours will have the mounts for the manual box, if it came with the auto it'd only have the mounts for the auto. There is other odds and …

my auto electric skills are more than just a little bit rusty having a problem with the AE71, the coil isn't producing any spark trying replacing it with the same problem so I'm assuming it's in the wiring pre coil rather than stuffing around pulling the loom apart and trying to find the fault I'd like to just re-wire up the new coil independant of the original loom can anyone tell me everything that needs to be wired up to the coil and which terminal it should come from (+) or (-) thanks in advance Dave

I have an ea82 seca and I'm wondering if its possible to convert to awd, I see the aus rally awd corolla that isn't avail to public. Do the awds still have the east west engine setup? The awds are very rare to see and are mostly those crappy wagons. Do the ae82s have the body to support an awd gearbox with the shaft and rear diff? Has anyone done anything like this before? I see a place for a shaft on the inside, but not really under the car. Does anyone have any photos of the awd driveline to share?

How much side-to-side axle play is acceptable? I've got a KE35 Corolla with an RA28 diff, running Bluebird TRX rear discs brakes. I bought the diff already set up with the brakes. For as long as I can remember since I put the diff in there's always been a clunking sound from the back of the car when I go around some corners, but I've never really known what it was. I have a clutch style Cusco LSD and I know this makes clunking sounds as it engages and disengages. Anyway, last event I did I noticed that at least one of my discs was occasionally scraping on my caliper when I went around some corners, it only happened when I was coasting around corners. Looke…

Hi Everyone, First off, we are talking about the Borg-Warner diff. Sorry, this is a bit of an unwanted question, but I'm in a hurry to get my KE70 on the road again by tomorrow and need to know whether the left and right axles are the same length and are universal between left and right. Looking for a definite answer. Reason being is I have a spare axle (L or R I'm not sure) and would be easier to take it to the shop and get it pressed on, rather than taking out the car axle and using that. I won't have the time to get it all done if I take them all out and measure it up. Many thanks, Vince

Ok so it's now time to step it up a notch in the backyard mechanic skill set. My 5K engine is slowly starting to fall apart and with the recent addition of a crack in the water jacket, suggesting head warpage I have decided the engine is need need of either binning or a DIY rebuild. I say DIY because of two things, one is that a low K 5K engine is damn hard to find locally and is usually over priced. Or two, the professional rebuilds are too expensive for what it's worth. The head work will be done by professionals as the price is great, $110 - $150 for reface + valve and valve seat re grind + crack test. I paid $110 to do that on my 4k but that was two years ago.…

I thought i'd start this after talking to Teddy about his engine he's building. i found this out the hard way in my starlet, running a 5k, it would Accelerate really hard and the last thing i expected when i went to freshen the engine up, was to find number one big end almost run. soon as i saw this i knew what had caused it, it was running just a standard sump, with so much acceleration the oil was been thrown to the back of the sump, staving the engine of oil. Now i'm wondering how many people out there have the same thing happening and don't know it, my oil light NEVER came on(remenber the oil switch is only 10psi). a little food for thought.

G'day guys. Got another question for you. Instead of buying ke20 balljoints ($80) and then spending $60~ on adapters to run ae86 steering arms I'm wondering if i can just put in ke70 balljoints and save myself the money. I know ke20 fits, so my main question is are KE balljoints the same size? I know the tapers different yada-yada. But i'm wondering if physically, like where they press into the Arm if they're the same size? Cheers

Hi Just as a little bit of personal research, I'm looking for factory workshop manual descriptions of how to clean an air filter out during a vehicle service. Toyota workshop manuals would be brilliant to use, as I do work on a reasonable number of *j120r prado's, zze122r corollas, and lots of **v36 and **v40 camry's. I would also like any decriptions of how to change the brake fluid as part of a service, the correct procedure out of factory workshop manuals would also be good. Both the prado setups would be good, the pressurised nitrogen booster as well as the traditional vacuum booster. I know this is very very basic, but I'm just trying to find some solid defi…

I recently began rebuilding the T50 transmission (AE86 Corolla) in my 1981 Starlet. It has a left hand starter motor and a right hand throw out arm. Normal. My donor transmission is also a T50 and is identical except that it has a bellhousing also with the starter on the left.....But with the throw out ALSO on the left. Just below the starter. My engine is a 4AGE. Was the donor car a 3A or 4A. (I never saw the car that this tranny came from) Is this "left handed" bellhousing unusual or sought after?
