hey recently got a mars 180 amp mig gas welder with 8 output steps and 10 wire speed settings, has a 15% duty cycle and will be used for the project car. mainly for welding new sections into the cut out sections of rust, ie floorpan, tunnel, rear quarters, engine bay, guards etc... I'm going to practice a fair bit before doing the car and would like to know : 1) what gas do people recommend? i think the mix of 95% co2 and 5% argon would be good for welding quality and not too expensive, this might be called mig shield from what i have heard. i do have a 2 gauge regulator (pressure and flow? possibly). seems boc and gas places supply bottles on rent and refills. …

hi everyone, I just bought some new front shocks for my ae71 wagon. Now it seemed like a pretty straightforward task to change them. Ihave managed to get the entire strut out of the car, so the spring is out and brake lines disconnected and such. I can't seem to get the old insert out of the strut. Does anyone have any tips or advice to get the old one out? I have unscrewed the top thing which holds it in by the way, so i think ithe shock is jammed in there. I'm thinking of a hammer and putting it in the vice once all the oil is drained out, there must be an easier way. thanks adan

  5. Hi, After spending most of the day cleaning and fixing my carby on the new sprinter one of the carbies (original asian) had been disassembled. So spent all day getting it micky mouse clean as a whistle. Just then tonight about to put the needle and seat in the lid of the carby ice burgs hit. The needle and seat had fallen out and been lost in the 3 boxes of parts I was given with the car. These were a mess all I was able to find after 40yrs of these boxes sitting there was the small spring and that was it for the needle and seat. So all I was missing was the little straight rod that goes in the end of the needle and holds the spring in and touches the float. S…

Has any one sucessfully supergharged a 4A-C. I was just curious as I am interested in seeing any resenable performance gians. I think supergharging is a great alternative to stand out of the crowd. I am also interested in 4A-C tuning as it seems not many people are into tuning them, they usually just drop in a 4A-GE.

How restrictive is the standard inlet system on 4A-C's. From looking at it it seems quite restrictive as it has two sharp bends in it. What are some alternative inlet systems that are still road legal, as in not pod filters.

Hi, While I'm fixing my 5K I had a thought today while the sump is off I will shim the oil pump spring to get more oil pressure. So I was wondering what is the best size shim to use as I don't want to much as above 90 PSI it will strip the soft metal off the bearings (I forget the metals name right now) and I don't wanna add just 5PSI as that is well better but worthless at the same time. So has anyone shimmed an oil pump and measured the oil pressure? I would like exact pressure numbers to shim size so I can see what would be best. Cheers Cameron

Hay guys the nuts thing happened to me today!! i finally got off my fat ass and put a motor in my 70 wagon!! Anyways got it all in there an running pretty easy only took about 5 hours to do complete change over!! once it was running for about 5 mins i turned it off started packing up my tools to notice that there was smoke pouring out of the engine!! HOLLY f@$k!! I thought as i ran to see that the positive going from the batt to the starter was melting an every other wire around it!! There was so much smoke my hole shed duched in like seconds!! I couldn't get the positive clamp off the batt cause i did it up so i had to cut the positive wire with some plyers!! Ill try to…

  17. I've found a rotor for an RX-7 4 piston brake upgrade that's an exact fit to an AE86 hub. The thing is, an AE86 has a 64mm ID hole with a 45 degree chamfer on the edge, the rotor in question has an 80mm ID hole and a chamfer too. I wonder if this is done on other cars? I wonder if this sort of thing increases the chance of failure...

So can i put a small fan on my oil cooler and just run it to a switch in the cabin ? And what will happen when i have both thermo's going, Will the different air flow rates mess with each other ? Hey all. I am just starting to rebuild/modify a 4A-GE to put into my AE71 race car as a learning experience, I thought about upgrading the injectors using the ones off the 3S-GE sitting in the backyard which my sister blew up. My 4A-GE is a Blue top, So it has the 182cc injectors (Grey) Which equates to 36.4hp/injector so 145.6hp (91kw) is its max functionality. The 3S-GE injectors are 250cc. So that equates to roughly 50hp/injector so 200hp (125kw) would be their max fuctionality. So these injectors would only be good for under 125kw. I searched the FAQ and it says you can use 7M-GTE injectors as an upgrade (440cc = 352hp(220kw)), Only problem is i don't have…

Hello all, I am currently rebuilding a pair of DHLA40 carburetors for my new engine and I came across a problem which I thought I'd throw up on here to see if anyone knows the answer. One of the carbs has at some stage in it's previous life had the butterflies removed and when I bought them (ebay) the brass screws that hold them in place were missing. Now, I've been searching in town for replacement ones however I can only find people who can order in Weber items, not Dellorto. My question is, are the screws that hold the butterflies to the shaft in a DCOE weber the same/interchangeable with DHLA carbs? I don't have access to a DCOE carb, so I can't compare myself. …
