So Ive had a idea that may make me stick with my ke20 with a 4k. It is currently a very healthy engine with even compression, 5k electronic distributor, 3kbp head etc. I'm thinking of making a custom inlet manifold for 4x individual throttle bodies, using one TPS sensor at the end of the throttle shaft, and 4x 300cc injectors. Instead of using a twin weber/dellorto manifold I'm thinking of fabricating my own inlet manifold flange and tig welding the runners, injector bungs and buying some throttle bodies. whats sort of ecu would be compatible with this setup? I'm thinking a megasquirt may be on the cards??? planning to ditch the distributor, run individual coil…

Hi Guys, I am starting to pull down my ke20 for a tidyup and was wondering how to remove the gutters trim. Would like t know if there is a special way to do this to avoid damaging them. Also, what have people used to reseal the gutters. I'm looking at removing the old sealant and running a wire brush along to clean them up. I have noticed a slight rusty stain in a couple of spots so want to hit it before it takes hold ( will use rust convertor as well if needed ). Cheers Dale

So I am curious What is it about external voltage regulators that make them specific to a car. Is it simply the wiring in/out of the regulator, or does it have something to do with the potential output of the alternator? Thinking aloud as I am planning on more than doubling the current (edit) output from the current alternator to run assorted accessories including spotlights etc.

Hi all, seems that I am asking a new question each week in general mechanical. So I have done an oil change on my smallport 4age. The motor is from a wreckers but goes very hard, from what I gather the odometer said on the wrecker car the engine has done anywhere upto 300,000. I have suspicions it has been rebuilt at some stage. Changed to fully symthetic mobil 1, (my mate kept talking it up) so the car runs fine but oil pressure is all over the place on cold start the oil pressure shoots up to 6 bar (87 psi) and with the slightest tap of the accelerator the pressure raises even higher. once the car is warm it stabilises a lot and goes down to around 3.7 b…

Hey everyone, So I've swapped out my old points dizzy for a new electronic one with an internal ignitor. It runs fine and everything but the ballast resistor is causing issues, occasionally the engine dies and I just have to fiddle with the connections on the ballast resistor and off it goes again. I've just had a quick google about upgrading points dizzies to electronic ones and from what I've read you no longer need the ballast resistor once you've upgraded to an electronic dizzy as the resistor is just to prolong the life of the points. So tomorrow I'm going to remove the ballast resistor, but now I'm wondering, will I need to upgrade the coil as the voltage would inc…

I was hoping to get some info from people who have used the 7k-e manifold and megasquirt computer. The main problem is how to control the idle speed control valve, I can't work out what type of signal the computer provides to the valve. Any help and experience on this would be much appreciated.

I have a little issue with a Haltech. The problem is the ecu is seeing a rpm signal that is inconstant, sometimes it flicks to 16,000 rpm at idle and engine is running like a bag of shit and won't pull pass 3-4000rpm. We have been through all the possible signal inputs, including replacing the dizzy, to the ignition module. The engine use to run fine, but everything has been changed over to a new car, including a the ecu harness. Any help would be great.

OK, so I picked up a donor KE70 for a manual conversion for my KE70 because i got sick of skidding with a slipping sludgebox. I found that the donor has a stock 5K in it. I also have a KE20 with 4K that i bought 2 yrs ago that has: 32/36 webber + adaptor Larger reground cam (unsure what size until i take it out) and extractors that are sitting in the boot I am just wondering: 1. can I use the carbie, cam and extractors on the 5K? 2. If not, is it worth putting the stock 5K in or putting all the stuff into good 4K? 3. I might do some basic headwork, wich head would be best to use? and what would be best compression? I want to do a 4AGE conversion later, …

Hi all Stuart here Thomas dad , I was ratting parts of our donor car today and noticed it had a factory fitted double front transverse spring and was just wondering if this is standard on the ke10 as Thomas ke11 only had a single leaf or is it possible it may be a Bill Buckle special modification?????. I have removed it from the car, i will get Thomas to put pictures up when he gets home. Thanks Stuart.

Hi guys, Just having trouble sourcing a rebuild kit for my 4kc here in oz. Wondering if there is any company around that can supply me with rings, mains, big ends, all seals & gaskets for a stock standard freshen up to my little 1.3tr. Preferably here in Oz, as I know there are companies in the US that sell stuff for Starlets, but the amount of hoops you need to jump through & paperwork one company want is ridiculous. Most others don't post international. Any help appreciated Mark

Is it a sticky valve or what's the problem

G'day, I'm fiddling with the front of my ke10 to get it a little more sorted while i build and buy all the stuff to rack and pinion it. So, I know ke20 springs fit in a ke10 but they're not quite stiff enough for what i'm after. So, I'm after something a little stiffer still, Out of another factory car, Sort of like Dori boys do with falcon springs in a ke70. But no, I don't want falcon springs in my ke10 :lolcry: And yes i'll probabily get the suggestion of kings etc, But i can't justify $160~ for 3-6 months of onroad use until my alternate front end goes in. Cheers

Hey guys, I'm fitting an intercooler to my rolla and I also want to keep the stock front end and street look without any intercooler / piping sticking out - in order to do this it looks like I have to cut the bottom radaitor support, now the question we hate ... is this legal? or am I going to expect trouble from the police / RTA? From my research it appears ok as long as some kind of bracing exists. Unfortunately I don't have a welder so i can't fabricate anything myself beside little metal brackets from alloy.

Where would I find them? Stupid enough question I know, but i've had a decent man's look and i've not turned up much success. I'm spraying my Rolla Gunmetal Grey and I want bolt ons for my rims to sit under (or should i say on? ;) ). What is the best way to go about this that people are aware of? I've seen some amazing examples, this one especially (see attachments) Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey guys, I own a 1997 Corolla, 130k on the clock and no oil leaks at all and very well looked after, nice and tidy. I am posting because I am looking for advice from someone in-the-know. (Please don't get the wrong impression) I am a young driver so am restricted to lower performance cars (for a good reason) and I'm not really a fan of wrapping myself or my mates around a tree. I wouldn't mind working my Corolla to increase it's performance and looks. I really like the look of a tidy, well done, corolla. But like I said I am looking for some advice. Is there anything you can do to these engines that would be at all worth while? I'm not someone who will be tr…

Hey guys I have bolt on guards or flairs as some people may call them, I'm just wandering if anyone had pictures from when they installed theirs as I want to do it right, but I've never met anyone with it done, or seen how anyone has done the job.. So I don't really know how to go about doing it, I've heard stories of some people cutting their old flair out completely, and others cutting it into strips! Please help! Any help, tips or pointers are greatly appreciated, cheers.

For something so mechanically simple, the SU carb has a complex system of operation. It seems very straightforward when you look at a cross-section of the carb and have a read over the internet, but I've found that it does not behave in such a simple way. Looking at the diagram, it is made from a body that contains the throttle plate, with a 'top hat' screwed on top of it. That encloses a cup-shaped hollow, floating piston that holds a needle in the fuel jet screwed into the bottom of the body. The little ramp in the body where the jet sits forms a low pressure area behind it and air flow over the venturi ramp sucks the floating piston upwards by forming a vacuum …

Hello guys. I have a quick question, due to my location we don't have a hell of a lot of parts cars to chose from, but the stuff we do have is usually free, Now I have access to many st and rt142 coronas, some with a disk rear end and some without. I'm wanting to run the disks to kind of match my 4 pot hilux calipers, Autho simply bolting disks onto the standard borgy is hardly worth it, That's where I want to use the corona gear, every thing is slightly bigger and a track increase that I'm happy with, plus I have access to a heap of cars for spare axles and centers, That comes to the question, how far off are the mounts? I know that you can g…
