  1. Yes, thats right, I wanna know what the specs are for the engine timing. I don't see any specs in the FAQ, maybe it should be something that should be added and maybe also add how much advance you cang et out of the car to give it a bit more power? I'm running at 5 degrees BTDC but i reckon it could perform much better. Anyone got the specs?

We have had a couple of problems since putting in the 7k and 5spd. The first one is last night Craig sheared the nuts off the tailshaft bolts. He swears he hasn't been loading it up. Has this happen to anyone else? The other problem is its started overheating. At first it took half an hour to get hot but over the week this has shortened to about 5 minutes. I won't get to see the car for a few days so any ideas would be apreciated.

OK so my car idles below 1grand (usually idles at 1grand) and putts along for like 10 seconds then a burst of normal idleing happens for a split second, then it idles bad again. Idles even worse after accelerating, stopped dead a few times and I ended up having to run with the choke out slightly. Putting along at walking speed when I parked it was doing small bursts of power too. Any suggestions? :n:

  6. Started by KE70_Rolla,

The diff in my KE70 has decided that is wants to shit itself (Not all the way shit itself but enough to not drive it incase it does break), I'm just wondering how much will it cost to buy a new or second hand one, it doesn't really matter if it is second hand because I will be getting a new diff with disk brakes just to upgrade them from shitty drums. So how much would a new diff be and to upgrade it to disks and how much would it cost to get a second hand diff, may have to get a new driveshaft because my cluth foot is kind of an itchy bugger, same as my throtle foot. Also is it bad when there is oil in the drive shaft tunnel just above where the driveshaft meet…

  12. It appears that I've got a small problem with my headlights on the Corolla. When the car is off, if I turn the headlights on, the dash highbeam light comes on, but the headlights don't. I can hear the headlight relay click, but the lights don't actually come on. If I turn the engine on, then everything works as they should. If I then turn the engine off with the lights on, the lights stay on. *sometimes* when I turn the lights on (with the engine off), they come on, but most of the time it just brings up the highbeam light... And, if I push the stalk to highbeam, nothing happens. But if I flick it to flash the highbeam, the highbeam comes on. WTF??…

I don't know a whole lot about the 1K head and I've been offered a fairly worked one by a workmate. Yet to actually see it so I can't say about whats been done to it. I'm pretty sure they fit onto 5K blocks? If so would there be a gain from this or just a waste of time... or actually kill power? Either way I'll be making some form of meaty K-motor over my holidays coming up, just tossing around some ideas until then. Cheers.

Don't know whether any of you guys know of, or have used the following site before. AUTOSHOP101 I came across it recently, while researching how different electonic engine management systems solve the problem of exacting timing during cranking. The site is very informative. It has basic information and some very interesting technical articals on lots of interesting automotive control subjects. The technical articals are fairly generic, but are all based on TOYOTA technology, so most things you read on the site are very applicable to our engines. I recommend the site as a good read to any "newbies" who read these pages but are too frightened to ask, b…

Now i have managed to pick up a 2 door with a 4k engine. now i don't wanna sound like everyone else but I'm trying to find cheap( read reliable) little mods that will make it a run properly, and maybe a little better. *somebody dropped a 5 speed gearbox in it ( i'll write up the specs when i get them) but hasn't connected the speedo, and it looks like someone snipped the cable with bolt cutters. I'm not even sure if the speedo cable will fix/work what the hell can i do? why couldn't k series motors be crossflow eh?

I have an AE82 its stock bar the spottie on it the issue i have is that its hard to start and i wanted to find out why i plave another battery out of my rover (Mower) in it its a fair size its still 12 volt though and it started it the other day but i went to start it yesterday and it wouldn't start it turned over once and then stopped. The lights on the dash the oil etc went out and wouldn't come back on so i put the old battery back into it just wondering if anyone has any idea on what was/is wrong with the little beast. By the way in the way of spotties there is aprox 450 -500 watts of lights on the front. Sorry bout the long post.

  20. Was sitting in front of my car yesterday while the tailshaft loop was being finished off, and looking at my bumper. At the moment, my oil cooler sits in the gap above the front spoiler: This all seemed like a great place to put it: Well... until the bumper went on: *doh* Anyway, so there I was sitting there, and I thought maybe if I drill some holes in the bumper, I'll get more airflow to the oil cooler. Is it even legal to drill holes in your bumper? And then I realised another thing, I can't really even drill many holes in the bumper, because the numberplate is in the way... Maybe I can move the numberplate too? I think th…

Was speaking to the fabricator today and looking at all his Speedway bits (he does speedway), and got to talking about how much it would cost to make a manifold to bolt on 20v 4AGE quad throttle bodies. Or to get a set of his custom made slide throttles... Anyways, no real figures were discussed as he needed to think about it, but he did suggest something that apparently is quite common among the V8 boys, which he recons would be easier and cheaper to set up, esp considering how much the 20v quad throttle bodies actually go for. His suggestion was to make a pair of plenums, and get another standard throttle body (or off some other car, apparently the Ford Falcon …

Hey, as i mentioned once before, my mate just brought a 1999 toyota seca and he decided that he wants to be more quicker, or GONE as he states it! Ive googled it and the best possible solution is that the toyota starlet turbo engine should bolt up fairly easy....... but he doesnt want to lose displacement..... He really love a 4age turbo but its guna cost him.. Does anyone know of anyone else who has done any upgrades to one of these models?? I'm sure it would be alot of messing around to get it turbo charged - roughly $10k... Thanks :D

guys about a week ago I noticed my corolla was down on power and there was some exhaust fumes gettnig in the car, but not too bad at that stage. Only a few days before this I had ran the tank almost dry, and the car seemed to have definate flat spots in the power so I figured the reason for the loss in power was because the carby was blocked with shit. replaced all fuel lines and filter and cleaned the jets in the carby. Flat spots were definately gone but car still felt noticebly down in power and exhaust fumes were getting worse. I figured the muffler was blocked as I had just noticed the exhaust sounded different but thought I was imagining it till this point. Anywa…

Hey, I have a Ke25 with a 4K. I have recently found an oil leak after having none for the last 15-20 years (its been in the family since almost new), It seems to be coming from around the headgasket area! i have cleaned it up tonight and topped up the oil for further inspection 2 moro after a drive to see if i can see where it is coming from. I'm guessing its not the headgasket cos i'm not burning oil etc. I was wondering if anyone knows of somewhere they commonly leak in the 4K? i'm hoping to fix it myself (apprentice Mechanic for a holden dealer), mayb if big work time for upgrades! thanks!

Hey Group, I just bought a 69 KE15 sprinter to play with. It is in pretty good shape and I'm trying to build it to run autox. The k motor is in fair shape needing minor tune-up and carb rebuild. I found a 3k that had been rebuilt recently with a new clutch and good looking carb with all components attached. The plan is to drop the 3k in and try to get as much out of it for as little $$ as possible. Is there any benefit to using the k head on the 3k block or will everything stay the same compression wise. I plan on trying to get the head ported as well with either of the two. Maybe try it myself on the k head and see if I can manage to make it work. Any suggest…

Ok so sometimes, getting more often now, on startup and lower revs the engine makes that terrible fan belt "SQUEEEEEEEEE"... so I've tightened the fan belt, but it still does it. Also from 1000 to 1500 revs half the time it goes "sqik sqik sqik sqik" like a squeeky trolley wheel that needs WD40 or something, as well as fairly often doing the "SQUEEE" crap. Should I be replacing the fan belt? Chiars guys :)

Crash Course in Seam Welding. All you need to know to start welding :) I decided to write this because of the lack of good, detailed documents on line on how to weld. The only experience was about 1 day of stick welding. Which no one taught me how to use. This time I got some help by a professional boiler maker. So I'm passing it on to help 1st time welders. The first part will go through removing rust out of panels and prepping it for welding. This should get you to the stage were you can fill over the panels with bog. Things you will need. • MIG welder • Welding mask if you don't want eye sunburn. Yes it hurts. • Tin snips. • Sheet metal. I…

Did a search but can't remember whether it was on this site or another that I read this advice. Someone suggested using a screwdriver shaft on a drill to prelubricate the bearings before a first start, after an engine strip down/rebuild. With dizzy removed the oil pump is not connected to running gear, so can be turned by poking said apparatus down dizzy hole. Never tried this before so gave it a go at the weekend, on 5K just about finished. Lubricated the bottom end OK, but couldn't see any oil coming out around the rockers. Occurred to me that upper head lubrication maybe from a flat on the camshaft journal as I have come across in other engines I have w…
