Kind of an odd one but does anyone here know much about the availability of second hand brake assist devices for heavy vehicles?? I'm only interested with the eddy current brake or the water/hydro brake for a home job that I have been concocting. Main thing would be the average price for one of these units and something capable to withstand something like 300 lb/ft. I haven't called any truck wreckers as I'm not exactly sure what to ask for or if many trucks came with these types of brake assists. I think buses mainly use them because they are much quieter than exhaust brakes. Any info would be great! Cheers!

So, we've got our project rolla.. Now, some time between disassembly for painting and re-assembly something has gone awry in the front suspension. We appear to have gained a degree or two of *positive* camber and the steering feel on straight ahead is very vague. What are we likely to have messed up? Are the strut tops offset? Can we have put anything else in backwards? Would love to solve it to rego it tomorrow.

I've got a 5K engine, but I'm buying an EFI manifold for it, i don't need to change to solid lifters for this do i? I'm assume not since I'm keeping the 5K head. Do i need an Electronic Dizzy? or will the stock 5K work?

gday, recently aquired an 88 el31 corolla II gp turbo. the car has been sitting for 2 years after some trouble from the bottom end. the problem is what sounds to be like a spun big end bearing. I will be removing the head this week to inspect the bores etc.. ill post pics when i work this tablet out. Ive been searching for a parts supplier but am finding it very difficult to source bearings, piston rings etc. has anybody found any good suppliers in the past for the more scarce toyota 3ete? cheers

i'm putting a little clacky electric fuel pump in my ke25, i'm just trying to figure out a place to mount it. the instruction say something like "engine bay bad, next to tank good", so engine bay is right out (but the stock pump is there?) so far i've found out that i should mount the plastic pump to the body with rubber mount points (stewart just cut up some old radiator hose) and i should give it some air space to aid in cooling i could mount it in the boot, next to the tank on the wheel arch or the parcel shelf support or behind the back seat, however this would be loud in the car, and i'd have to cut the factory aluminium pickup hose which i'd rather not do …

Been having fuel starvation issues with my ae71, which has a weber carb and aftermarket fuel pump. Would I be correct in assuming that it is better to have the fuel pump near the tank? Seems it doesnt suck very well as it is, damn dodgy job the previous owner did xD. It's a brand new pump, old one died due to running dry and rust particles, lol.

G'day all, I just bought an Electric choke to install on my 32/36 Weber, thing is though, i can't seem to adjust it properly. So, I was hoping that some of you out there could inform me how to properly adjust a Electric Choke so it does it's job properly, because at the moment it's jumping all around the place at different temperatures... Note that the choke uses a Bi-Metal spring that recieves power from the ignition to heat it. Thanks. Stewart.

I have a 1979 Corolla TE51, SR5 with 1600 motor. The mechanical fuel pump is going bad. I decided that rather than twist myself into a pretzel and replace it, I would install an electric pump instead. Well I did, under the hood, low on fender well. Worked for about 8 miles, then started cavitating even with full tank. So I moved it just in front of the tank, lower than tank, put a fuel filter before it. I worked for about 5 miles and did same thing. Anyone have any idea whats going on. If i hook the old mechanical pump back up it runs great, just has a seap of fuel leak on it. I tryed also, to plug the return line from the old pump, when electric was installed, and same p…

posted this on toymods - but I know there are a coupla subscribers who don't necessarily get over there, so I'll post here as well ... Well, the 32DIR on the 4K is haemorrhaging fuel (seemingly) from every available seal and partial orifice after a year of use ... well, there's a nice coating of red fuel and dirt shite all over it ... and I'm suspecting fuel pressure may be the culprit. I'm about to slap a 32/36 on the 4AC and (in addition to fixing the 4K's problem) I don't want the same issues on this one ... I have the stock 4K fuel pump pushing fuel into the weber - I think the toyota pump is in the 7-9 psi region, where as the weber probably wants some…

Ok my question is. some of us have used the facet style fuel pump on out little k engines and they work fine. noisy but fine. now i have a tank in my shed that has been fitted with an intank vl lift pump. i understand that this will flow more than enough fuel at low pressure. but... will the pressure be too high for the needle and seat on a 4k carb?

give me the shits.... Pulled up at the servo this morning on the way to work. Filled up with fuel, got an ice coffee (coffee is crucial to saturday morning work) and paid for the stuff. Get back to the car, turn the immobiliser off and attempt to start the car. She cranks but no hint of firing. I try again, pumping the throttle a few times thinking there might be a fuel problem. Still nothing. So I wiggle some wires and stuff around. can't get it going after 5 or 6 attempts at checking things like coil connections, plug leads, points gap, rotor, dizzy cap etc etc. So I push it out of the road, check fuses etc under the dash. Mind you by this time I was getting pr…

Delivering pizzas quite happily the other night. On the way back to the store from the last del of the night, engine starts to run rough, as if it was weak on one cylinder. I think, "Meh, probably just some carby bullshit. It'll fix itself." Get back to the store, less than one km, "Oh shit." What looks like smoke, coming in quite a copious fashion from the exhaust. So I surmise the worst, that the rings are f@$ked and a full rebuild is required. Baby it home, next day take a look. Do compression test, phew. Its all good. Look in radiator, it is sans coolant. Look at dipstick, it is covered in creamy sludge. Aaargh! The mysterious white cloud from exhaust was steam. So am…

Hey guys, My dad and I recently installed a 32/36 DGAV Weber on the 4K as the old Aisan one that was on there had basically lost it's will to live. The carbie is working pretty damn nicely however we just encountered little problem and are unsure what is causing it. The problem is that after the car has been driven around for a while(5minutes or more)then turned off, it doesnt like to start up again straight away. (noticed when trying to start the car after stopping at the petrol station  ) You kinda have to let it sit a bit then try again. Once it finally starts, it gurgles for abit at about 300rpm then slowly rises to a normal idle(1000rpm). It seems as if…

So, the Golden Girl is a dead stock KE70. Sometimes I jump in, it fires up, runs for 30seconds to a minute and dies. About as long as it takes to empty a carb bowl full of fuel. It won't restart. The fuel filter is empty, so is the pump. Solution is to put the filter inlet line into a jar of petrol, pour some down the carb and refil the carb, pump and filter. It makes a shopping trip into an anxious gamble.. It can be fine for a month or two, then do it. After running around town for a while I park it, lift the bonnet and see the fuel filer filling up more. Then bubbles come from the outlet end into the filter. The fuel filter is filling up because it is upsi…

For any of you considering a 4AGE into KE30/KE55 engine swap, I found out the other day which engine mounts you should use (as I had to replace mine). What you want are either Ford Cortina ones. Now, there are at least two types available. One type has a thickness of 37mm, the other is 39mm thick. The 39mm thick one is also used on a Land Rover. The other measurements are shared by each type of mount. I got the 37mm ones, but I know of someone using 39mm ones, but there's obviously not a huge difference. In case your engine is mounted too low with these mounts, there are two other types available, one to suit Jaguar, and one to suit Volvo. Both of these had the…

Hi, I plan to finally be installing my 4K motor into my KE30 4dr Rolla soon. But While in the process of removing the 4K out of the car I tore the mounts. So to fit the 4K into my KE30 will I need to get new mounts or will the ones on my 3K motor in the car now fit the new 4K? As by looking at them they look slightly different so I don't know which ones to use. As apparently the KE30 was a bit slimer than other newer corollas. A wrecker near me also only has KE55 mounts so will these fit in if I can't use the 3K ones as there different? Cameron

This is a stupid question but I don't care. How far can I fill up my engine oil? I've got a KE70 but I was driving around today and I had it in 4th (4speed) and it was wanting to stall... later on I turned a corner in 2nd and it nearly stalled... got home and it stalled... I checked the oil and it was completely empty. I felt pretty stupid. :jamie: So (without looking at the dipstick since it's not accurate enough) how can I tell when to stop filling it up? I know not to go right to the top... but surely there is some generic way of telling? Cheers.
