I need to mount my Carb approved Weber to my 2tc manifolt since my kit diddnt come with an adapter, and I can't seem to find one the right size. I can do this in 2 different ways. I can create a spacer out of some 6011 aluminum. I have a stick of .75”x3”x12'. The other way would be using a spare intake I have from a 78 and hogging out the inside where the carb normally bolts to, and inserting a square (that bolts to carb) then welding. Well look at my ridiculous paint diagram and pics. Shaded cut out is of the weber carb's base. The hard way. don't Laugh!: or The spacer: Which way would you do it? And why?

Hey guys i have a spare 16v and 20v motor lying around minus 20v head, and plan on doing a twin carbed conversion with the 16v,however because i have looked at the 16v motor warrant sheet it failed on a few of things for the motor (excessive smoke and whatnot) and my mate being an engine rebuilder would the the 16v head bolt straight up to the 20v block or is there little variations.my mate says if the 16v block has to be used it will cost a lot more as the 20v motor was my sisters and it was the oil rings that let go only.any help with this would be much appreciated thanks.

Hi I have recently fitted a completely rebuilt jap spec bigport 4age to my ke20 and I am having trouble with it missing or surging, It happens once the revs get to about 3,200 but only under heavy acceleration, slow acceleration is fine, timing is set properly, it has a good strong spark to all cylinders, the engine check light isn't throwing and codes other than the speed sensor code when I'm cruising at 3,500rpm in 5th (I don't have a speed sensor), the TPS is set correctly, map sensor seams to be working fine, at idle if you give it a quick rev it blows a tiny bit of black smoke, could be running rich? Or maybe just cause its such a sudden rev the ECU doesn't respond q…

Hey guys. 4age build is going well. My parts pile is growing and the. Again so is the bill! Haha My latest snag is the alternator. Now i got a band spanka today from repco. The usless @unts sent the wrong one. Must be for a later modle as it didny fit into or over my altenator braket! Anyway my question is. Where would be the best place to go? Or what others would fit my motor? (Import) 4age Bigport, 16v. (From ae82)

Hey there, I'm wondering how big of an ordeal would it be to put a 1jz-ge into a 1983, manual Ke70? How much money would I be looking at roughly to do this? And is it worth it in the end? My apologies if this is a dumb question, pretty new to this.

The saas ke30-ke70 boss kits don't seem to fit, the taper is too tight on the oem shaft. Its a pity as they are the better boss kit out there with 2 patterns and solid design, but yeah the nut doesnt even go halfway on when done up tight. I have bought a few over the last year hoping they would have fixed the issue but its the same problem. Tested ascross multiple listed vehicles for the boss kit. It is possible to machine the taper out but tricky and expensive if you can find someone capable of doing it. Anyone had similar issues?

I have camtech 272 8.6mm cams coming, as well as performance springs. I already have adjustable cam sprockets and silvertop itb. going to be sending a spare head off for a quick port and polish and will have them assemble the head with the cams and springs.. I am trying to keep costs down and wondering if i can get away without shim under bucket mod, or if its just not worth the risk. anyone run 8.6mm or more here on standard shims?

Hey dudes. I recently installed a T3 short shifter in to the Rolla for mad shiftz. Although, I completely blanked that there was going to be a difference between a LHD and RHD shifter, so my shifter is ever so slightly angled to the left. It's definitely usable and unless I find something incredible, it will stay. I've read that there is three popular options for short shifters in this application - TRD, cheap eBay crap and T3. All having different pros and cons. Just looking to see what you guys run and what you do and don't like about them. :y:

Hey guys, I was snooping around looking for some parts and ran across these : http://http://www.ebay.com/itm/74-82-TOYOTA-COROLLA-1-8L-3T-C-E70-STAINLESS-EXHAUST-CHROME-HEADER-GASKET-BOLTS-/170723423502?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AToyota&hash=item27bfe8b50e&vxp=mtr cheap ebay headers. Usually when something sounds too good to be true, it is. but I was still wondering if anyone had tried them. btw, 3T and 2T exhaust sizes are the same right ? greetings. Odin

Hey dudes I'm close to getting engine back together and want to know how accurate the "how to build tough k motor" quote is "You accomplish this by lowering the axis upon which the rockers move, which is supported by the rocker posts. Toyota had it pretty well setup from factory, so a good rule is to have the rocker posts accurately machined down by the amount of valvelift you have added to the engine. Stock lift is about 0.340", so say you're running 0.400" lift, you need to have the rocker posts machined down about 0.060"." I'm running approx 500 lift and according to this around 4mm should do the trick??? I am yet to find a decent machinist after my bloke went aw…

Hey guys, just chasing some advice, iv got a few years experience building these k motors but I'm a bit confused at the moment. From the top, built a 4k Cam, carb, head decked to 9.8-1, double valve springs Got over it after about a year, so i purchased a 5k in parts The build consisted of the following. Pulled down my 4k for parts, 5k block, Brand new shallow dish 5k pistons approx 7cc instead of the 28cc? That the standard D dished pistons are. ( youl see why soon ) Brand new rings Brand new bearings through out New graphite 5k head gasket New sump gasket ( 4k sump used ) Crank & conrods are from my running 4k My worked 4k cam Brand new 20…

So my poor stock struts are having issues coping with the added weight of the 4age, and the abuse I hand it at events. I currently have lowered kings in it. I'm looking at doing a coilover sleeve kit, but don't know what spring rate to go for. Not even the slightest idea.. 5 kg? 7kg? 8kg? I don't know what the current springs are rated at so I can't even make a guess. Anyone have some idea?

Hi guys I'm new to the group and in desperate need of help. I have a 4k Corolla motor from a ke 70. If I drive the car for about 25km's driving at 80kph and turn the car off. If I go to start it, it won't start. It will wind to the point where it loses battery power. All gaskets have been done, engine and radiator flushed, new radiator hoses, new coil, new fuel pump, points and condenser done and spark plugs checked. If I wait for the car to cool down for about an hour for everything to cool down it will start. This has been going on for about nine months now and no one can tell me what to do to fix it. The car has been to auto electricians, to engine rebuilders to mechan…

I'm gradually converting a KE55 to run a 2TGEU engine with twin Solex carburettors. The 2TGEU does not come with a mechanical fuel pump though I imagine a 2T one would do. But I'm planning to drill a crankcase breather/baffle for the PCV system through the mechanical pump block off plate as the 2TGEU block is blanked off where the 2TG crankcase breather would sit. So I expect to use an inexpensive Facet style low pressure electric fuel pump and have been looking into fuel cutoff safety switch options and there would appear to be (at least) three different types. Which type have people had experience with and recommend? - An oil pressure switch turns off the fu…

Hi all, Every car I have ever owned (except a commodore) has had a leaking rear main seal. Some of my cars worse than others. I have a rebuilt 5mge in one of my cars, and it started leaking straight away after the rebuild. From previous research I have herd that rear main seals can leak because of improper fitment, crap seals (crappy brands that come with clutch kits), and also due to crank balancing. Crank balancing is the one that interests me. I want to repair the leak on one of my 4x4's, because it's leaking oil really bad, but to go to the effort to remove the gearbox and replace it, and have it continue to leak after replacing it makes me wonder. If my c…

For general interest. Whilst continuing the grandfathercation of my AE86, and removing various parts considered extraneous, I was finishing bolting the struts back in and noticed this. I’m pretty particular, and when installing them, they were lubed within an inch of their life with the supplied grease, and torqued to specification whilst on the ground, which was damn hard as it was pretty low. Since then, it’s done about 10 kms in 10 years Then I had a look at the other side! Not good, and difficult to explain. Fortunately at least, I noticed it, and also I was having a last look around today before putting in an Amayama order. So will be a…

I wanted to start a discussion with those with mechanical minds, and hopefully not have it become an argument. TO THE INTERNET!!! My little poor old 4k is on its last legs until its rebuild which should happen beginning of next year. To keep oil pressure up while driving over the mountains, when it all gets hot, ive had to add an oil conditioner product which did exactly what it claimed to do. I put in 3 litres of new mineral 20W-50 and stuck in about 300 mls of this additive stuff. without the additive, my cheap gauge wasnt registering a thing driving up hills all the way to about 3500 rpm. After putting it in, i was getting some oil pressure back and that has go…

I have a 1985 KP36. I've made a lot of mods on it mainly on the mechanical part. 1. Changed the stock 2K for a 4K motor (Brand new cylinder block) 2. Put a Weber DGV 32/36 3. Switched the T40 gearbox with a T50. 4. Put new Headers and new Radiator with a low temp racing thermostat. All these are great. The problem I have is on the freeway. My Differential is a stock KP36 (picture attached) one with a ratio of 43:10 (4.3) so travelling long distance is a pain and hard to reach top speeds. I need to get me a 3.9 ratio differential in so I will be able to cruise at 100-130 KMH with the engine at low RPMs. Is there a way I can only switc…

I have been looking hard at my steering box in the Corolla and was wondering if they share a common problem with most small Jap cars especially Datsun 1600's , which is chassis rail flex under the steering box when turning. This causes the whole steering box to actually move on the chassis rail and give a vagueness to the steering which also felt like bad steering box adjustment/freeplay. My old 1600 was renowned for it until I made up a basic brace that bolted to the top of the steering box and the inner guard. Mine was pretty simple as it consisted of 4mm alloy plate with a right angle and another 4mm plate that bolted to the inner guard. This reduced the f…

Hi, I have a ke20 with a 3k and k40 and my clutch cable is on full adjustment and really should be adjusted further. The clutch fork is forward of centre in the released positsion and comes very far forward when the clutch is depressed. It looks as though the throw out bearing/bearing retained should be longer? Is there more then one length across the models? I know my 3k is an orgional ke20 item, and I have the thicker of the 2 engine backing plates. The gearbox is a ke20 k40 with the extension housing changed to the ke30. Any advis would be great. P.s. I have done a seaech and found a thread that stated the bearing number is the same from ke15 to ke7…
