hey guys, I'm looking at buying a 3k bigport head for my 4k i read in the wiki that is says: " They also have crappy valve retainers and stem seals, which you need to change to later 4K gear when you make power". now can i use my 20 yr old parts from my 4k on the 3k hed? and is it hard to change them over? also is it (swapping heads) a basic swap.. or do i need to buy little "this and that" parts? cheers

hey guys just another quick question, the 5k i just bought has a 5k head but was once running a 3k bigport head and running a 10.9:1 compression ratio. the 4age pistons have the valve rececces in them so I'm just wondering weather its worth trying to find a 3k bigport head or just shave the 5k head and do a big port on it. what are your thoughts?? cheers again guys Not gunna lie, ill probabaly be putting a few topics up but should be right with most things :) do build 600hp diesel motors for a living :)

I've done all the searches of the Forums & WIKI and Oldrollas FAQ and I think I know generally what I'm looking for. I still have some questions though :) I am currently running a stock 3k however there will be extractors & probably a mild cam at a later date. Looking to end up with a strong, grunty little engine suitable for street & the occasional run in a club level motokhana. On Oldcorollas it says the following So I'll ask the experts out there is this what we are talking about and if so what would be a reasonable price. ebayyyyyy OR do I look to the twin option with something like this Ebay again plus a manifold costi…

Hey, I have come to the realisation that, finding stock dual carby set up from the kexx sprinter models is going to be a tough ask. So I'm wondering if I could set up single carbys and set them up on a custom manifold? Has this been done before? If so is there any places in adelaide that would be able to help me out? Cheers Tom

Evening guys. I have just stuck a 3K-C into a KE70; for about a day she went just fine, a good 3 hours total. Prior to insertion, the engine had been out of action for at least a year, but fired up strong and clean; it had been rebuilt prior to being laid up. Fired first go, didn't blow smoke, pulled well up until ~5000rpm, after which it would still rev, but not make power. And now drama has struck. It seems like it keeps running out of fuel; It will start, run for a few seconds, and then die. If you touch the accelerator, it dies. After a few seconds of cranking, it will do this over and over. If I leave it say, half and hour, it might run for 30 seconds? …

First up I may as well introduce myself... Ah my name's Rod for all the difference it makes on forums... I have a 1981 Ke70 CSX with a 4K-C. Its got dished mags and a sunroof, its been resprayed bright blue. I'll get some photos of it ASAP like when I get a camera. I also have a KE20 with a 3K and I've heard about how the 3K head has higher compression and can bolt straight on to a 4K. The KE20 is unreg and blows heaps of smoke. I want to put the 3K head on my 4K-C, is it easy? How do I do it? Do i have to bore any of the valves or anything like that or can I just chuck it straight on? Can I then put the head from the 4K-C onto the 3K block in the KE20 just for the s…

I finally got around to trying to see if all was well on my swap and now the motor wont spin over. I know there is probably more info that anyone willing to shed light may need but here's what I can think of. k to 3k swap 3k was rebuilt about 3000 miles ago. had to swap flywheel and clutch pressure plate from k as the bolts didn't line up with that of the 3k ( I think, it's been a few weeks) I remember swapping them, can't remember exactly why I had to. Bolted up the t4 trans (factory 4spd ke15 tranny) I bumped the starter with the coil wire off, no exhaust and didn't want to run straight off of the manifold. starter engaged but didn't want to turn. removed …

Hi, I have a ke20 with a 3k and k40 and my clutch cable is on full adjustment and really should be adjusted further. The clutch fork is forward of centre in the released positsion and comes very far forward when the clutch is depressed. It looks as though the throw out bearing/bearing retained should be longer? Is there more then one length across the models? I know my 3k is an orgional ke20 item, and I have the thicker of the 2 engine backing plates. The gearbox is a ke20 k40 with the extension housing changed to the ke30. Any advis would be great. P.s. I have done a seaech and found a thread that stated the bearing number is the same from ke15 to ke7…

Hey, havent been on here much but worth a try for a question. I own a ke30 with the stocko powerhouse of a 3k motor with the 4sp behind it. Its my DD. So i need it going smooooth as my 4B Suzy is out of order atm.. Now at half throttle she seems to be running abit rough on the road, as in flat spot, bit of smoke (only seen at night in other peoples headlights). Anything before half throttle is normal, anything after half is secondarys? So its the normal whoa feel the power kick..Well slightly. :rolls: Been on a 600km round trip last night.. The flatspot dissappears sometimes if i give a kick flat to the floor and back. Would it be timing?Points? …

Is there a way to tell how oil is getting burnt? I have a 3k and it's quite smokey sometimes, normally alot when you are going heavy on the throttle and the engine fairly high in the revs. Is there a way to tell if it is the valves or the rings or something else?

Hey guys, got a problem with my 3k at idle (well i think its only at idle), basically i've rebuilt the motor about 2500km ago and just rebuilt the carby on sunday because of flat spots and hesistation and stuff. But even before the rebuild (of the carby) the engine doesn't seem to idle smooth at all, a mechanic said the 3k is a really smooth motor and can run down to 400rpm but mine barely does 800....the rebuild was completely stock (so no bigger cam or pistons) the only thing i can think of is the timing chain is 1 tooth out or something.....and when i say "i think its only at idle" i mean i don't think its producing as much power as it should and yes i know 1.2L is not…

I have a standard KE20 at the moment, and am thinking of building up a 4K for it. I have read about 3K heads raising compression, but most people are talking about big port heads, is it worth using my standard head and tidying up the ports?

Time to call on the collective wisdom of Corolla land. I've noticed lately especially since the weather turned a little colder that the 3K has a distimct rattle for a minute or so after starting then it quietens. Do these engines have a hydraulic tensioner on the chain that perhaps is a little slower to take up the slack when the oil is thicker? Is this a problem? Is it anything to be concerned about? Barry

Cheers Tally EDIT: After reading the table on this page I think it might be just a 3K... lol single carb, silly me... http://www.superjamie.net/oldcorollas/engine/blocks.html

Hey guys got a bit of a wires issue with my Panel. The 3k takes a long time to build any oil pressure on start up. I'm talking like 5-10 seconds which seems far far too long. Once it's built the pressure it seems fine. I've got around it right now by putting a switch onto the coil that allows me to turn over the car without ignition, but it takes seriously 20-30 seconds of cranking to get the oil light to turn out! Anyone had this before? Oil pump is in the sump right? Which means engine out to replace?

Hey, I have a stock 3K in my KE35, last tuesday it was running fine, like clockwork. But then I gave her 4 days off. And now I can't get her going again. I have checked everything I can think of; I have a good spark, excelent compression on all cylinders, and fuel is getting through (even tried starting it on some of that easy start spray). The only other thing I can think of is that the timing has gone out. (can that happen when its not running though?) Any help would be very much aperciated. Thanks.
