It sorta sounds like a lifter rattle, but apparently these engines don't use lifters, they use shims? are the rockers adjustable? any help would be appreciated. Mick.

Morning All Ive just come across this web site and hoping you guys can help me out........ I have a Birkin Clubman which runs a Borg Warner M68 diff. It currently runs a 3.9 diff ratio which is way too high for my car. Talking to a few people there are other diff ratios available with this diff a 4.11 and a 4.3.............whilst Ive heard of the 4.11 being available, I'm really looking for the 4.3 which would suit my car perfectly. Is there such a ratio available and if so, can anyone point me the right direction to where I could find one?? Appreciate any help you can provide.............. Thanks Eldo

Hi all, Just wondering what people think of the 45 DCOE weber carbs... I'm putting together a turbo 3TC, currently have a 3TGTE Exhaust and inlet manifold, a T28 Turbo, and looking at suitable carbs for a blow thru setup, and came across a 45DCOE 14 weber at a fairly reasonable price. Seeing as I got no idea about webers (having been spawned of holden and holley origins) would these be suitable to run in a blow thru setup? I'm aware of the need to fully enclose the unit (or mod to handle boost) and run a rising rate fuel pressure reg, but just wanting to know what sort of flow this sucker would have on a 3T under about 12-14 psi? Just want to make su…

Gahhhhh When my bundel of joy doesnt get driven for a wile, the breaks go sticky (thats my nick name 4 it) - basically they stick ( :) ), and u try and move the car - it aint go no where unless u rev the hell outa it then drop it into gear, which slowly releases their grip of death. - i have to do this a few times over untill the car will freely move without the need of tooo many rpms. I know this is bad for my car ... -> reving it, then droping it into gear, i REALLY hate doing it, but theres no other way i know of getting the car to move... Any idea how to fix / solve this problem? when the car was getting done for the road worthy - around x-mas time, the…

This has been driving me crazy. Got my A/C compress this arvo, but it interferes with the alternator mount. Off the same model! (Ae92) does any one have any pics of a Setup with the A/C and alternator on the right (exhaust side) of the motor. Ive been scouring the net finding only photos that show the top.... completly useless

Ok so I have put into my ke20 a smallport 4age with t50 20 spline.. my build thread : http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/60867-another-4age-ke20/page__hl__%20another%20%204age I have 2 issues one which i think i have found the answer to. 1. i have an issue with oil leaking between the bellhousing and box. (i have found that i need a spacer ring on the input bearing.. will this be causing the box to move on the bh and leak oil?) 2. clutch slip. I have an almost new exedy clutch in there and afaik i have standard smallport hp. It slips really bad. could the spacer ring i didnt know about be causing this issue as well? any advice greatly appreciated, …

Hey guy's, I was just wondering if there is anything I can do myself to my 4A MT Engine ? It's the FWD engine's for 1989 1.6L Twin Cam Corolla's and Nova's. Any Ideas or advice on how to keep under the hood clean and running at optimum performence, or anything else would be great.

Hi, I have a some questions about a 4a supercharger I have been offered one for $200 and i want to fit it to a 1978 dual carby celica, I have never fitted a supercharger before but I have done a turbo or two. Q1. Do oil or water lines have to be run to the 4a supercharger? ( I Have seen some easton chargers before and all you have to do is attached the charger to aircon bracket and run a pipe from the underside of the charger to the carby and another to a filter, is this the same with the 4a type) Q2 I want to keep the dual carby setup, has this been done before? (sound different so why not do it.) Q3 what RPM do the 4a c…

Hi everyone, I'm looking to save my KE70 van from daily duties and give her the attention she deserves. :? (in no particular order: power, paint job, front coil-overs and a clean interior ) The van has a standard bigport 7rib running (standard ecu) in it atm but I'm looking to go turbo. I want around 120-140kw atw max for it. i want this power and no more because i have a t50 and a t series celica diff. not wanting to go W box, r31 diff etc etc.. plus i don't think I'm that greedy :( she will move along not bad with this power :D Now the main thing running around in my head is: do i work on my bigport and setup a turbo with this or buy an old GZE and use tha…

I've just finished putting a new 4A-C in my AE71 (thanks Jason and Teddy, ended up doing the whole thing by hand, lifting the motor out of Jason's car, then into mine at home haha) and since the old one is apparently a non-interferance motor so there shouldn't be any damage I was going to rebuild it for a spare my question is has anyone here ever played with these motors? I'm thinking of rebuilding it with a bigger cam, ported head and possibly bigger carb if I do that will it have enough power to spin the wheels? I've upgraded the brakes and suspension cause I want to drift it and was going to do a 4AGZE conversion but I got over it and can't be bothered spen…

Is it true that the 4A-C has a compression ratio of 8.8:1 and if it is what is the easiest and cheapest way to bump up compression, without going down the forced induction route. I realise that this will be illegal on my car as I am on my P's but will the boys in blue be able to tell?

Hi Can anyone give, or direct me to, the correct Australian tune-up settings for a 4A-C engine. I was given an August 1986 AE82 1587cc. It would benefit from a tune. I've looked online and can find US and Cailfornian specs only. They may different to Oz. I would like to know, best plugs, plug gap, ignition timing, (idle speed to set timimg if not around 750rpm). Also another basic question, are the valves hardened and able to run on Unleaded only? Ta, Brett

just realised that topics posted in sub-forums don't show up in the "recent posts" home page view. so ... I'm posting a link to my sub-forum topic here so it'll show up in the summary view ... in a nutshell ... I'll be replacing the head-gasket on the 4A-C (AE71) on the weekend and am looking for supporting info - Damm it, but Gregorys don't do a manual for the AE71 and I'm baulking at the idea of buying a later model corolla manual just to get the 4A-C info :P http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=5982 cheers, Slapper

G'Day all, I'm currently in the market for some performace extractors to fit a 4A-C motor (see WTB forum), but, before i go ahead and spend hundreds on getting them custom made, I would like an idea of what the potential power increase will be. I'm asking those of you who have done this, or know the effects of this to give feedback on what the benifits will be, and whether or not you believe it is worth getting the parts. Thanks.

Hey guys, my old man's having a bit of trouble with his stock '91 Corolla Seca. The engine i'm pretty sure is a 4A-C, it's a transverse twin cam carburetted engine. It's done roughly 270,000km's and it's auto. The small problems have only recently increased in severity, they are: * Won't kick into gear at 80km/h unless you let go of the accelerator * When i'm travelling at 75-80km/h and accelerate hard it "kicks back" a gear but struggles to get past 80km/h * When the engine's just been started, it wont allow use of the overdrive function (despite driving over 80km/h) * When the engine's just been started and transmission moved into Drive, it will roll about for 4-…

My friend has AE90/Holden nova with dead 4A-FC twin cam carb motor. I've been looking for cheap 4A-FC but no luck, I found a low km well price 4A-FE injected motor and want to know if the carbi intake manifolds and exhuast manifold are direct bolt up fit? Also will it bolt up to the gearbox the same way? Engine mounts the same? Anyone know? I'd do a whole EFI conversion for her but she doesn't have the money.

Hey guys I'm about to get an AE92 Seca with a 4AFE. I am looking to rebuild/recondition the motor just to keep it going for many thousands of kms. Is it possible to rebuild a 4AFE with 4AGE internals eg pistons, rods, rings, bearings? As i have heard the only difference is the intake cam spins backwards on the 4AFE and i can't see why the 4AGE internals wouldn't fit. If it's not possible, are there any manafacturers that make rebuild kits for a 4AFE as i can only find them in America. Any extra info would be great. Cheers

Greetings, I am having a problem with my 95 1.6L that I can't seem to figure out. I have searched many forums and tried many things that resolved others' similar problem with no luck. Basically, the car runs absolutely fine while driving along or for short distances. Once the engine temp gauge reaches the middle, at red lights or in traffic, the engine begins idling very rough and almost stalls. Once you're moving again and the temp cools, all is well. Here is what has been done so far. The fuel pump was replaced a few months ago due to a no-start issue. While troubleshooting that problem I swapped a few things and kept the originals, along with some other maintena…

I am a new here and just want to know what I can do to my car. I have an 88' 4a-ge ae82 rolla. it is a twin cam red top 16v 4a-ge. All that has been done to the engine is a pod filter. It also has a 6" tip for the exhaust. no performance just a mean sound. I just want to know how I can the most performance out of the car with the least price, whether I try extractors, injectors or an safc computer to tune my stock computer. Here are some pictures. it is a bit dirty, i take it fishing on dirt roads and tear it up a bit. through the sand sometimes also :jamie:

Hi all, just wondering if someone can help me out, first of all I did do a search but couldn't find an answer to my specific question but I apologize if i just didn't search quite the right thing. So, I have a 1989 Toyota Corolla seca sx with the 100kw 4A-ge, 270,000kms, pod filter, extractors and full 2 1/2 or 2 1/4 inch exhaust. Now my problem is that it will not idle when it's cold, ever. It will always stall until it starts to warm up, even my rather tired ke-70 with 678,000kms will start first turn and idle nicely, just wondering what I should do as I thought these cars had an idle up feature for cold starts??

Hi all, Just did a transplant and put a 4ac into my 70. It runs great only problem is it's idling way too high. It starts up nicely and then slowly the revs get higher and higher, when you step on the throttle it will raise the revs and then they will not return the revs just keep getting higher. BTW I don't know anything about carby's. Also another interesting thing is that I converted the 4ac from auto to manual and so it had like an auto choke linkage, when I move the auto choke mechanism thing it seems to make a diffeence in how the throttle butterfly thing opens and closes, when I don't touch it the buttlerfly doesnt fully return and the butterfly stays …

Hey all I am competing in the Supersprint at Mt Panorama on the 1st of december and i wont have my 4age rebuilt in time, so i will be running standard 4ac. So i was wondering can you remove any emissions gear for extra power, and also what can you do to the 4ac to get some cheap power. I'm doing the usual stuff like, service, new plugs/leads and octane booster in the fuel, weight reduction and also removal of dodgy power draining heater gear. But what else can go so i can get more power out of the unopened engine. people are saying carbs and extractors but with the 4age going in soon its really pointless to me. The car is not registered and never will be so any gea…
