  1. Hi Everyone, I own a KE10 and I'm at that point where I have decided to put a 4k engine into it. I'm treating this as my crash course in learning more about cars. As far as I have read through this wonderful site, it is supposed to be easy. Basically I would like to know everything I need to complete this conversion. I'm not interested in having a drift car or a super "fast" car. I just want something with the ability to make it up hills and be zippy while commuting between work and weekend events. As it stands, I have a 1967, KE10, 1.1L, 4 speed manual. I don't have much of an issue with the 4 speed. However if there is a better 5 speed option to go with …

Does anybody happen to know the spare wheel tyre size for a ke70 wagon to be placed under the fuel tank?? I can't remember what size mine was before I chucked it out. I've tried a 165/75 r13 but it's too big

If decided to bike carb my 4k because at the end of the day its just a ke70 if I wanted power I would of got a different car with a quick motor not relying on a motor swap. So just asking people who have done it before what do I need? What carbs should I get? Seen r1 used alot I can get a custom manifold made for super cheap. Will my accelerator cable work or will it have to be custom or something? Cheers in advance

Hey Guys. I've been on here a while now, very much enjoy looking at the builds, and learning from the discussions. I don't come from a family of mechanically talented people, and so most of my "skills" are self taught, in a shed with a haynes manual, If I told you my first fan belt change cost me something like 2 hours (stripped a couple bolts along the way, WD40 it up guys), you better believe it. But I've come a long way since then, and nowadays I'm more confident and skilled, but that doesn't mean I'm anything without proper instructions. I'm now prepping for my biggest adventure so far : an engine swap. changing the 3K to a 2T with a conversion set…

I have just bought a ke30 and was looking for some help with upgrading suspension, I understand there is a lot of work which goes into building up a decent car thats this old but I'm up for it and would like it to perform reasonably well. I thought I'd start by asking where to get a good suspension set up for the intention of drifting it later on and if possible what brands etc.?

I was going to buy kyb shocks from ebay, there affordable and would be alot better than my current blown shocks. But I thought id see what some more knowledgeable people think. If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance. Fil

  9. I understand drum brake master cylinders have a "residual pressure valve" to keep say 10psi of pressure in the brake lines, as drum brakes require this to compensate for spring return tension. However, when you convert drums to discs, you need to remove this valve, or your new disc brakes stay on when you let go of the pedal. How does this work when you go the other way - putting a disc brake master cylinder on a drum brake car? I see Wilwood sell aftermarket residual pressure valves, is this the only way, or can you install a valve in the new master cylinder? JB1762 (15/16") bolts to KE30 booster. It comes from NE Pajero which had factory discs on the bac…

  13. Hey dudes I'm close to getting engine back together and want to know how accurate the "how to build tough k motor" quote is "You accomplish this by lowering the axis upon which the rockers move, which is supported by the rocker posts. Toyota had it pretty well setup from factory, so a good rule is to have the rocker posts accurately machined down by the amount of valvelift you have added to the engine. Stock lift is about 0.340", so say you're running 0.400" lift, you need to have the rocker posts machined down about 0.060"." I'm running approx 500 lift and according to this around 4mm should do the trick??? I am yet to find a decent machinist after my bloke went aw…

-while it obviously isn't under the bonnet. So the 4AGE sensor doesn't suit the KE70 tacho dash resistance, which means the AE71 dashes must be different to KE70s... I'll solve it over the next week, but I wondered if anyone had come across this. You fit the 4AGE and the temp gauge never goes up to the 1/3 mark. The radiator water is at 80+ degrees acccording to a thermometer.

My question is, Should i get the sump resealed and do an oil change then, or ignore the sump do and oil change and ignore the small leak?

I have a 4age, I believe is a small port with a MAP sensor witch means out of an AE92? It has the typical few leaks, tappet covers, sump etc Been trying to source gaskets and seals for it but am really struggling through the internet and places like repco. Most of all the 4age gaskets and gasket kits listed online and in stores are for cars like aw11 and ae82 witch are big ports (right?). so the basic question is will big port gaskets fit a small port? (apart from the intake manifold I'm guessing). And what other cars where released with my engine of future reference? also any good parts sites where I might be able to get them from? and has anyone else struggled to…

  22. Hey guys, I've been reading a lot of the posts on here and this site has been extremely helpful for me during my build but now I'm in need of some advice. I had a R31 wagon diff housing that I have made custom mounts for and bolted it into my KE70. Fitment wise everything seems okay. The diff housing is pretty bare except for the pinion gear which was already installed. Today I tried to fit a diff centre from a R31 sedan (with a mini spool inside) but after fitting it using the spacers and bearing caps (from the same sedan diff) the diff seizes and will not rotate. If i loosen the bearing cap bolts it reduces tension and with the help of a big lever bar i can get the c…

Hey guys, Having some issues at the moment with what to do with my rear quarters. They have currently been cut for bolt on flairs and large wheels, but am now interested in going back to near standard fitment. Anyone know of any weld on flairs kits or reproduction rear quarter panels that mimic the original sizing. Or even some nice neat little bolt ons. ps. rear guards with flairs are currently set up for 14x9 -10. I want to go to 14x7 -6. do not suggest wheel spacers to fill my guards. thanks.

  30. I have a 1979 Corolla TE51, SR5 with 1600 motor. The mechanical fuel pump is going bad. I decided that rather than twist myself into a pretzel and replace it, I would install an electric pump instead. Well I did, under the hood, low on fender well. Worked for about 8 miles, then started cavitating even with full tank. So I moved it just in front of the tank, lower than tank, put a fuel filter before it. I worked for about 5 miles and did same thing. Anyone have any idea whats going on. If i hook the old mechanical pump back up it runs great, just has a seap of fuel leak on it. I tryed also, to plug the return line from the old pump, when electric was installed, and same p…

I have a 5k rebuilt with 20 over piston and cam grind of 262 in my kp36 pick up daily driver. Those are the only modifications to the engine. the exhaust is two inches from manifold back. Thinking of getting a 32/36 Weber, the question; with this set up is it necessary to put on extractors? I currently have stock intake and exhaust manifold and carby off a 3k. I know that generally cam, carby and extractors go together. I live in Central America and getting extractors is not very easy. Any input.... Thanks

So after years of suffering a bodgey fuel gauge I'm over it. There's an issue with the circuit I believe bug cannot pin point it. It works but only half of what it's supposed to. When the tank is full it reads half. It worked properly for a few days when I had a bad earth connection from the loom to the chassis but my head lights didn't work. Has anyone experienced this phenomenon? Just before I commit to an auto electrician. Also the battery light comes on if I turn on the heater blower. Could these be relAted?
