Is there any difference between buying a cold air intake system from an auto shop, and just running a regular intake from an area further away from the engine?

Hey guys, I bought an engine setup today but I can't find any info on people having used it so I'm wondering if it's possible. It's a stock 7afe head to be mounted onto a 16v 4age block with smallport pistons. Any info or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I wanted to start a discussion with those with mechanical minds, and hopefully not have it become an argument. TO THE INTERNET!!! My little poor old 4k is on its last legs until its rebuild which should happen beginning of next year. To keep oil pressure up while driving over the mountains, when it all gets hot, ive had to add an oil conditioner product which did exactly what it claimed to do. I put in 3 litres of new mineral 20W-50 and stuck in about 300 mls of this additive stuff. without the additive, my cheap gauge wasnt registering a thing driving up hills all the way to about 3500 rpm. After putting it in, i was getting some oil pressure back and that has go…

OK, so say you want your project car to be bare metal on the roads. Now you strip back the paint only to find there are some hale size dents in the rear quarter pannel and chips on the gaurds...... 😞 How do you fill in the holes and make the metal it look original again? Cheers. ==O|-[_]*[_]-|O==

I have a 1985 KP36. I've made a lot of mods on it mainly on the mechanical part. 1. Changed the stock 2K for a 4K motor (Brand new cylinder block) 2. Put a Weber DGV 32/36 3. Switched the T40 gearbox with a T50. 4. Put new Headers and new Radiator with a low temp racing thermostat. All these are great. The problem I have is on the freeway. My Differential is a stock KP36 (picture attached) one with a ratio of 43:10 (4.3) so travelling long distance is a pain and hard to reach top speeds. I need to get me a 3.9 ratio differential in so I will be able to cruise at 100-130 KMH with the engine at low RPMs. Is there a way I can only switc…

On the past months I've been building a worked 5K with the following specs: +0,5mm oversized pistons 2mm oversized valves 290º camshaft with vernier pulley set to max lift at 103º as indicated by the technical sheet 5K/3F solid lifters with 4K adjustable gear Ported head to match the 1 piece gasket Block and head machined, around 10,5:1 compression ratio. Lightened flywheel and crankshaft In order to have a smooth 1st start, particularly in order to run in the camshaft I used the standard dizzy and carb with the main jet of the carb drilled from 0.96mm to 1.1mm. This is how the engine ran: Au…

Hey guys! So while i'm building my 5k, I have gotten to the point of putting the pistons in. I'm using 40 thou over and rings to suit. However, when I compress them with the tool, it doesn't compress right round equally. and so when I try and lighty tap them into the cylinder they instantly bind. Is this a common problem or am I doing something wrong? I've gapped them to their spec. (Everything is well lubed up and this is how I do it at work and no problems) Cheers!

Hi, Is it possible to frankenstein my W56 gearbox and the fifth gear from a W58 in it. Also, how expensive would it be for a transmission shop to do it. Cheers.

Hello people, On my 5K, am planning to run a cast-iron exhaust manifold with the dual-downpipe exit. This has a 3-bolt attachment, whose flange looks just like the one for a Subaru EJ20 (but I don't know if it is the same). Does anyone have a source for the Toyota flange in stainless? Or has anyone made a drawing pattern of it? Having a hell of a time finding the subaru flange dimensions to compare, or even the toyota gasket dimensions. (My van, but not my actual paint job)

OK lads, After fussing with my old and crusty Aisan for nearly a week, I threw in the towel after realizing gas was leaking out the main shafts. A few days later, and I have a nice and shiny Chinese copy sitting on the wife's kitchen table. Ahh, but it looks like some changes occurred in the design. - Top cover of new carb had the fuel inlet clocked 90 degrees the wrong way, and a different thread size for the central air inlet stem bolt. To save aggravation, I just swapped in my old top cover (painted black because ugly). - Circled in green here looks to be a bimetallic switch which is controlling vacuum by some preset temperature. This fe…

OK, so I just assembled my XT130 struts and springs and camber tops, using the XT130 LCA's, and TTT AE86 PS knuckle. Put on my 14" wheels and they don't spin? The caliper is not touching, and can't see anything else fouling? Before installing the hubs spun freely? I think the dust shield is pushed up against the rotor. does the AE86 Knuckle move the strut inwards? I'm thinking I have to remove the dust shield, or grind down the end of the LCA(don't want to do this.....)or get a NRCA? Anyone else come across this?

My 4AGE makes a noise that I think it's valvetrain related but I'm not sure. I recorded a video of it, after I give a little throttle, we can hear a "rrrrrrrrrrrrrr" sound. What do you think?

Hi, I have a 5mge toyota cressida engine (rebuilt 2 years ago) and I have issues with the car running learn/pinging. I pulled the spark plugs out and the grounding strap was WHITE AF, lean and overheated. I have since put in 1 colder plugs, but it hasn't done much. The spark plugs are consistent across all 6 cylinders, all white and overheated. This problem is an absolute nightmare, because I have chased every possible thing that could cause it, well, almost. Fortunately I have a tonne of spares, and this efi motor is quiet old so it's very simple. I'm fairly sure its the same bosch ignition system as the early bigport 4ages. The only unique thing…

My Dear Friends, I found my engine rod bearings caps worn and need to replace. Engine is in good condition and no need to use repair version of bearing caps. So I am going to replace existing rod bearing caps with standard ones. But I have one problem. Toyota has produced three standard rod bearing caps as marked 1,2 and 3. Each type is different from few micrometers. So we need to replace old bearing cap with new one which should be always similar to the old one number. Toyota has discontinued them producing. Third party manufacturers (like TAIHO) only produce one standard type and they do not have 1,2 and 3 as such. Will I be able to use this third party bearing …

I've been having a problem with my starter for too long and have no idea of what can be the issue. A lot of times it's impossible to start the car when hot. For example, if I go to a gas station I turn off the car, after refueling and paying I try to start it and a lot of times it just cranks reaaaaaally slowly or doesn't crank at all. If I let it rest for 10/15 minutes it cranks and starts like everything is fine. Cleaned all the terminals on the earth wires to the engine block (there's 2 or 3 of them), the starter was recently disassembled, cleaned on the inside and brushes were replaced. Can it be battery related? I've got no space to place a bigger one …

Hi All, Previously i made a post regarding some fuel pump decisions i had to make, i opted for the mechanical pump for reliability and ease of installation, pump went in a treat and there was a noticeable improvement on the first start however now the car is struggling to idle. Not idling at all would be a better way of putting it. this was my first time playing with fuel systems so has anyone got a tip or suggestion as to why this may be happening and how i would go about achieving a solid idle again. I am going to play around with the timing this weekend also as it may be up to that but i figured it wouldnt hurt to gather some other opinions. Cheers

Ok guys, I know it's useless for some of us, but I was just going through old posts and noticed that some numbers are controversial between us. After checking my Toyota K Repair Manual I need some final factory recommended numbers missing: 1. WATER TEMPERATURE 2. WATER PRESSURE 3. WATER THERMOSTAT OPENING TEMPERATURE 4. OIL TEMPERATURE 5. OIL PRESSURE 6. FUEL PRESSURE 7. FUEL OCTANE

Hey guys, I recently just purchased an 81 Corona and it came with the springs cut. The car is in great shape but I'm too worried to drive it the way it's sitting. I've read on here that T3 AE86 Coilovers work on the XT130 chassis but I'm not sure which ones to purchase. I've also heard they don't fit. I'm not an experienced enough welder to get the weld-ons that are sold for the XT130. Appreciate your time

Hi all. Can those in the know please share their experiences with swapping out any combination of the 3K, 4K and 5K engines? How noticeable was the upgrade or downgrade? If I hypothetically took out a 3K engine and replaced it with a 5K engine, how much of an upgrade in performance would I get (not looking for horsepower numbers, just noticeable honest feedback). How impressed/disappointed were you with the upgrade/downgrade? Thanks heaps, Paul.

Hey guys, I just got a new ke70 (also my first car) I have a blackbelt, the ones with the square lights (picture attached). So the original cluster meter is those without the tacho. I just got a dashmeter with the tachometer. So my question is how do I do this customisation? Can i just use the first two big connectors and will it be safe? or do I have to combine the two small wire connectors to fit into the third plug point? Honestly any help would be great cause I'm very very new to all of this. (sorry if I'm posting it wrong, any tips would be great :D) 1. KE70 2. Old meter with 4 plug points 3. The blackbelt mete…

Turboing my 4afe 1996 corolla. Most likely buying this kit: https://www.turbokits.com/tsi-extreme-turbo-kit-tc2001e.html Pretty confident Ive got my head around the process, but abit clueless about the tuning. From what ive read it seems that a 1996 corolla can only be tuned with a standalone ecu such as a megasquirt. I only plan to run low boost, 5 psi probably. I have a few questions, any help is appreciated especially from those who have experience with similar models. Should I consider any engine upgrades/ replacements prior to installing the turbo what else would need to be purchased that is not included in the kit what other things sho…

Hi Team I need to replace the oil seal in my 6.7 inch T series diff. How necessary is the SST to remove the companion flange? Any advice would be appreciated. I have the SST for the seal itself. But the SST 09557–22022, or 09557-22021 are NLA I will also need to replace one in another diff, so if there is a specific tool, i'm happy to buy it.

Hi all, I have a 75' corona mark II in the Uk, 18R engine 2L I4 running twin aisan su iso carbs, theyre both in dire need of repairing especially the diaphragm but i appreciate repair kits are a impossible to find, does anyone know where i have a possibility of buying a repair kit or even a new good condition carb? The car is with the mechanic due to idling issues, hes given me a couple days but also given the option of upgrading to SU carbs, but at a cost of 3-5k which is extortionate (may i also add I'm trying to tell the car & losing money even when running properly so if i sell her as a project I'm losing thousands as is) I don&am…

Hey folks, hope everyone’s safe. I don't know if this topic has been opened yet, but I wanted to share a recent experience I had with my car's wheel spacers. I installed a new set of Brembo calipers and HRE rims, but they are scratching the rims because they are too big. I already had them installed and didn't want to spend money on another set of calipers and wheels. So I searched on Google for a solution and finally decided to install a set of spacers. The effect is very nice. Not only did it solve the scratching problem, but my wheels were flush with the fenders. The whole car looks fuller and is very stable while driving. Now I'm cruis…

Hi folks, Concerned dad of first-time car-owner son. He just bought a 1998 Toyota Seca 1.6L Automatic in Melbourne. Perfect condition. Saw that the oil was so low when warm it did not even touch the dipstick. Filled it to within specs on the stick (took about 1L). Drove 15 mins to home--car performed well. Checked in the morning. Still low. Added another 0.7L (now about 1.7L added total, maybe 2). Test drove for 3 mins. Noticed gear shifting suddenly irregular and slow. Rechecked oil level. It was now 5cm over the limit on the dipstick!! Drained off 1.5L through the pan and no more oil would come out of the pan. Mystified that the oil was still 5cm over the dipstick limit…
