I thought it might be an interesting topic to see what peoples variations on running in engines are. The method I'm using at the moment is as follows: Penrite Running in oil (because I KNOW its a full mineral oil, suitable for turbos. Other oils tend not to advertise the fact because "synthetic is better" or some crap) Oil filter change at 100km Oil and Filter change at 500km (mineral oil again) Oil and filter change at 1000km (I'm going to use Penrite Semi-syn 10W50 I think) I drive it firm, not flogging it and keeping the RPM down (below 5000rpm and not long periods at high RPM). I try to avoid long periods of idling and cruising at a constant RPM and loa…

Okay, so today I finally tried to start removing my front suspension so as to install my Pedders low springs and rose-jointed lower control arms. I've had a fair bit of success (the spring on one side's in), however I can't remove the LCA. As you can see in the bottom left of the image above (excuse the grainyness), the lower control arm is still attached to the steering arm, which in turn is attached to a tie-rod end. The threaded shaft sticks through the appropriate hole in the centre of the steering arm, and I figured a couple of taps (or belts) with the hammer would knock it out, but it's stuck in there pretty well. Am I missing something? I've now got…

Hi all, My KE70 wagon was broken into last week. They smashed the front passenger side window. Does anyone happen to know if an 8 Corona window is the same size? The dimensions seem very similar and I have acces to a dead corona but I don't want to go to the trouble of pulling the window out if it's not gonna fit in the rolla. thanks guys matt

hey guys I got a ye old ke-30 as my first car, I'm pretty happy with most of it but its just lacking that sound that gets a teenagers hormones running. She has a fairly stock 4k engine with stock headders and what not its got a cat on it, the original tailpipe is 1.5" I'm just wondering what would sound the s**t off the back for as less cash as possible. I was thinking of gettin rid of the stocky and wackin a canon 3" outlet, tho it may look a bit..."I wish i was a lancer". The other option was just going for a normal sports muffler dual tip or single. Maby i cud just chop the muffler on and have a straight pipe lol. PS. i unbolted the exhaust from cat back...sounds…

Ok guys, i have searched the forums and tried searching google but to no avail, bought a lynx corp twin sidedraught weber/dellorto (for dellortos) and I'm lost as to how to connect it all up. Have a slight idea as to how it works but not down to exact details. If any one has a link to help on them or can supply close up pics of their set ups it would be a huge help. Hello all, newbie here. I was reading a thread about the 2TG/3TC hybrid on here and someone mentioned that the 4Y crank can be used in the 2TG. Is it the same as the 3TC or does it have different characteristics? May well make a big difference to me as there weren't any 3TC engined cars brought to the UK as far as I am aware.

  10. Hi, The 5K I am about to put in my KE30 that I just bought has had a solid lifter conversion allready done to it (also a full clean up/rebuild). I was told it has solid lifters by guy I bought it off of who had it rebuilt BUT on the head it still retains its original rockers with no adjuster BAD if it has solid lifters This motor is going in my car this Saturday I need it to work I drive 500KM + a week so don't want to kill the 5k on first run due to running 0 to little tappet clearance. So main question is is it possible to tell what lifters the motor has with out relying on the rockers? Can I tell from say looking down the head or removing the sump? …

Hi, A few small bits need assembling on my KE15 sprinter and I am jsut looking for advice. The rear drivers side vent on my sprinter was removed when car was repainted and now needs reinstalling. The back of the vent pictured below has 3 pins in the corners (see photo below): Now the holes in the car look like this: So I am wondering HOW do I stick this in. As in factory how did they do it as the top holes are a lot bigger than the pins but the bottom hole has like a rubber goo in it that makes the fit tight so just curious how people have put these in? Also the pins on the back of the grill are similar to the ones on the back of badges so it might…

But I am not sure I have 100% of the linkages or the knowledge to bend twist and run the cables etc to put them on. So I was wondering is it possible if I could get photos of KE15 sprinter engine bays please to assist me in the linkage install? I al also curious as to how the 3K-B water heated manifold was linked up. I know water went in the back of the manifold in that pipe from the back of the head but then it e…

Hey guys, I am after some help with working out "wtf" is going wrong with my carbie. Have a 32/36 DGAV Weber on the 4K since the Aisan one shit itself. All was working fine with it over 2 months or so, but now something is wrong and I am unsure of what it is. The car will not rev at a steady level. If you try to hold the revs at a constant mark, the engine drops in revs then kinda splutters back up then drops again. The same goes for the idle. It barely idles, and when you adjust the mixture screw, it does hardley anything. The screw can be the whole way out and the engine still runs like it was halfway in. When you try to increase the idle speed, the engie just picks…

I have been building an engine for my sons first car (KE20) so far I have balanced the 4K bottom end, 3k big port head, factory twin carbies, extractors and a 2 inch sports exhaust, with a 5 speed, the car will be spending a lot of time on the highway so 2500rpm upwards will be the starting point and hopefully it wont be going past 7000rpm to often, but boys being boys he'll give it his best shot, but does anyone out there have any good ideas of what profile to use of where to find out. :D :) :) :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

Well, i was thinking.. you know how when the intlet manifold is cold, the fuel get *stuck* (if thats the correct language) on the inside of it... (when it warms up, it flows nicely) - would it be possible to create an *inlet manifold warmer* ? - I know people are now saying *derrr just use the choke* - but when i use the choke (as in pull out lever 5mm) - the motor floods it self and just stops. This, also, appears to be a big seller in Malaysia... Basically it appears to lean your mixtures out... A "review" of MicroCompressor

  27. f@$kED UP!. it's making this god awful scraping noise when i brake. SO, since it's happened, i'll probably get all my pads replaced, and i might need that disc (i think it's disc) machined to get the scratches that are most likely on it now. What's a GOOD, but EASY ON THE WALLET brand of pads, with nice stopping power? f@$king cars, i dunno. i'm expecting this to cost me around $500 at least, since i'll need to get my mechanic to do it, plus cost of pads, plus machining if needed... *mumbles*

This is mainly aimed at Paul, as he has alot of experience in this area with setup and so forth. But anyone and everyone please give your opinions. Basically i am looking for something low and stiff. Isnt everyone? hahaha. I have a pair of short stroke TRD front shocks here but nothing for the rear. I want to go on the cheap, but not dodgy cheap. One of my main questions is are coilovers really necessary in the front? I mean if you get custom springs made up, using 400ish lb springs, the suspension isnt going to be moving very much and wouldnt that keep the spring captive? So my first dilemma is coilovers or not in the front. Second is what to use in the rear. Garage …

An idea... Someone should try putting Falcon rear discs on. I had a brief look at the brackets, and without measuring everything, it looks like it wouldn't be hard to get to bolt up. The problems I can see are that the bracket may be too thick, and that the discs are 5 stud, so you'd have to get them redrilled to 4 stud. But the calipers are nice and beefy, cheap as chips, and the discs are BIG and VENTILATED.
