Hey Today, I just felt like doing something apart from body work so I thought I'd just have a little look inside the engine. Now, I used a 14mm socket wrench and it was going well with the rocker cover bolts and then I got a few bolts in and just kept slipping off. It appears the bolt is 'stripped' and 2 others also. Any ideas on what to do? People before hand had fun with it by the looks of them. Thanks Troy

Hi just wonding if there are any threads on this. I've searched but haven't found anything. Having no air con in Townsville is killing me. I'm wondering how difficult/expensive it would be to add. Was air con an option on this or equivalent models? any info greatly appreciated. matt

hey, got a bit of a problem with the stoppers. symptoms: when she is off the brakes feel good, when i start it up and its running they turn shit! the peddel have a lot more travel. a few times the brake warning light flashed on and stayed on for a while, when i braked it would go out and then back on (i thought it was a low fluid light). checks: i have gave the fronts a bleed, but i do not think this is the problem, because they felt good before i bleed them and after, it impoved slightly. i also topped up the fluid and it wasnt low before. i cannot see any obvious leaks and i have checked the vaccum line while it was running again no problems that could see.…

Hello. Just curious as to any radiators people have used to replace and upgrade the standard item in their AE71/KE70 4age project. Ill need one before the heat of summer kicks in. I'm looking for something about 410mm high, by 550mm wide, with both hose connections on the drivers side. So far my best option is looking like a rebuild of a standard one, to include 3 cores. This costs in the vacinity of 500 dollars, so Id rather find something potentially better and cheaper. I don't mind fabricating any mounts to make it fit. don't be shy now.

Hey guys, have been putting my new JDM ae86 brake setup into my ke70 and all was going well until i went to bleed the brakes. Tried undoing the bleeder valve on one of the calipers, it was pretty tight, then it just snapped off, leaving the thread still in the caliper (where it screws in). Tried WD40 on the next one, but this seemed to soften it more and it snapped too :P I'm guessing they'd been sitting around in japan for a while and siezed or something....So, I'm now stuck with a brake system full of air that i can't bleed from the front. So, what I'm after are either some othe options to bleed it (can i do it from the rear? - t-18 rear end), or an option to get whats …

So I've noticed, in a lot of big HP conversions with upgraded differentials, some people prefer to go for a single tailshaft instead of doing a cut n shut on the rear section after the centre bearing. Other than being cheaper to fabricate, are there any inherent benefits to a single shaft? Does the KE70 centre bearing not handle HP very well? Now bearing in mind I'm setting up my '70 to handle rather than slide, do you think a single shaft would be detrimental in that it would add to the unsprung weight of the rear suspended components? Any related info or personal experiences would be appreciated. Cheers Jarad

Guys, I've mentioned before that I want to do build my Motor with the plan to run E85 if I can get my hands on it. I thought I'd post up my general thought on what parts and plans I have to overcome some of the issues with Ethanol. PLEASE don't make this some kind of ethical food supply debate, nor am I interested in hearing advice from "peoples qualified mates" or the various Pro and Anti ethanol conspiracies, I've come across them all before. Here are my plans: Carby - DHLA's will give me ample room to tune for the extra fuel supply required, with experimentation i will be able to quickly swap jets between straight fuel and Ethanol. Will take some Trial and…

Hi fellow rollas, just wanted to know if anyone else out there is having the same problem i have. I just bought a 91 GTicorolla with 17' vault rims and everytime i go approximately over 70km/ph the steering wheel shakes and it gets worst the faster i go. Normal driving speed 60 km/ph, everything seems fine. I'm not sure if its the rim size or tyres not being balanced properly? or something to do with the axels (loose joints maybe?) does anyone know what that is all about or is having/had the same problem? and how i can fix it? any advice would be greatful!

This is a stupid question but I don't care. How far can I fill up my engine oil? I've got a KE70 but I was driving around today and I had it in 4th (4speed) and it was wanting to stall... later on I turned a corner in 2nd and it nearly stalled... got home and it stalled... I checked the oil and it was completely empty. I felt pretty stupid. :jamie: So (without looking at the dipstick since it's not accurate enough) how can I tell when to stop filling it up? I know not to go right to the top... but surely there is some generic way of telling? Cheers.

Hi all I own a 1975 ke35 which is going to be used for hill climb racing i am in the process of organizing my suspension and brake upgrades and need some questions answered. Also i can do the work myself but at the moment I'm am trying to reduce the amount of potential hiccups that occur in a build. I have been doing my research and would like some of peoples experiences with what i have thought could be a good set up. Here goes; Front struts I have read plently about using xt130 front corona struts for bigger disc size but i have come across a few problems so i don't really hand over money to the wreckers yet. - will the struts fit inside the strut tower …

As title suggests I've snapped an axle in my KE30, the part of it that fits into diff still remains inside(stopping me from removing my diff :) ) Any suggestions to getting it out(preferably without removing diff housing)? And if too much hassle would I be alright chopping part of the affected axle off so only one wheel spins, but so I can still bolt it back up(have a welded diff)? Or if possible to remove the stuck part of axle, mine being a banjo type, would a borg warner axle fit(as these are much easier to find for me)? Few questions but any suggestions/ experience will be much appreciated. Cheers

Ok, I set the tappets once I'd fitted the cam/SUs/extractors to Toyota's 10 & 12 thou, using my usual method of getting a cylinder to TDC firing and setting both valves. Later I was reading Crow's paperwork and they said 16thou, so I opened them up. However they were noisy at that, so I've just closed them back down to 10 & 12 at TDC. However, while doing that I noticed that the valve on another cyl had a larger gap than I had set it to. A quick think & I realised that at TDC neither lobe is right on its heel, so TDC settings are not at the largest gap you can get. So.... if we set each valve individually using the rule of 9, would we be setting t…

Hey Hey, I have a 32/36 weber on my Pajero. SAeeing as some folk here like these carbies i'll ask here.It wont idle properly. Idles at 200 - 300rpm. No vac leaks i can find. Drives well, cruises well. Dies when i add start ya bastard. Runs better when i cover fuel bowl vents but still not 100%. New kit put through, new needle and seat. To get it to idle i have turn the mixture screw out nearly 10 turns and crack the primary butterfly which is very wrong. Idles shit aswell. I'm not expecting a miracle answer but suggestions.

Ask all your questions here that you are unsure of rather than starting a new thread everytime.... Everyone started here once so help the new kids out And FFS use correct spellings and grammers while you're typing the question.... It is quite annoying trying to desifer text talk or just plain lazyness, take your time and explain to the best of your knowledge what you are talking about and I'm sure people will be glad to help

Hey guy's ! so it has come time were i must choose a diff ive done quite a bit of reading but still have some questions so here it goes.......... The Hilux diff sounds like it's almost going to be bullet proof but witch hilux should i use and what kind of lsd centres do they make for them are they any good ? - this would be my most preferd choice if they make a nice lsd...... Hoookay so the s/t series sounds like the best match so far couse its still toyota ! but iam still unsure about the lsd's they seem to have reall nice ones - iam thinking this one is most comfy and the r31/vl tu-bro diff well every one seems to speak highly of them but that would be li…

I have just come into possession of a 78 Carolla. Body and everything is in great shape. The engine has a bad knock. It's undrivable because of the knock. I drove it on to and off of a car trailer to get it back to my house. The engine say ke55 but I was told it's been replaced with a Jem engine? In the past. I want to replace the engine. Is there a brand new engine that will go into this car or if not does anyone know where I could track down a reconditioned one and a someone who works on these to put it in. Or worst case scenario someone to fix the engine that's already in there.

ok, i'll explain this now. i am building a buggy using corolla running gear this is the engine i will be using, a 4k that i am going to drop the huge cam out of my 5k into it along with the modified 5k head and most likely use the modded 4a carbi i have it is originally a celica drag car rollcage that i have added bits onto and removed some bits too. it will be about a foot of the ground when the struts are fully mounted(i still have yet to make up the top strut mounts) diff is undecided but i am steering towards my ae71 diff as it has the all new brakes in it. and of course i will be locking it! :) so what ya's think?

Hey All ! Yes, its that time of month again -> ive got another random idea ! While looking down the ports of my spare 3k biport head, i started to think...Hymm...Side draft is good, but theres not too much room... straightner kit for k motor is too much bother...eghhh... *ping* Ah Ha ! What do you get when you cross a 4ke inlet manifold, side draft intake manifold, 2 very nicely balanced down draft webbers, angle grinder and one of mr Dixon's ultimo welding/metal fabrication friends? A verticle side draft inlet manifold system :D ! (cut 4ke inlet manifold in half (middle of bend); slightly pull in the intake manifold pipes for cyl's 2 and 3 …

Hey all, finished moving my leaf springs in 10mm today, a friend has changed the offset of some 14x7 ra40 celica rims and tacked them together so i can trial fit. It took a bit of messing around but i finally have them in place. Slick are 24.5 x 8 x 14, the buldge is the widest part at 258 mm wide, i should be able to get a 255 street tyre on the rear now too :D I have about 3 mm clearance to the leaf springs now, do you think i should change the offset by 4mm more and slightly scallop the springs? i am un decided of whether they still stick out to far? as it sits i should be able to roll the lips and not get any tire scrub, opinions please? last thing i want is a car…

Hi Guys & Gals, Been out of the loop for a while as my bastard boss sent me overseas (H.K.) for a spell. But that's another story, and I'll just say I'm going to take him to Oxley's Hotel on Coro Drive for Christmas; get him drunk, tell him what I think of him; then throw him overboard ! I hope he doesn't read this forum ! He drives a Saab ! Not that I've got anything against Saabs. But you get the picture. Anyway, I'm back and have a problem I hope your collective minds can assist with. Heaven's Nicks been at work hasn't he. There's a thing down the bottom of this page called "Guided Mode Off" (are they fitting auto pilot to old Coro…

Hey hows it going, After talking to my APD teacher at school today whos is also a boiler maker welder he told me that it would be a "piece of piss" to make an EFI manifold for a 4k-c corolla. He informed me the that it is also a "piece of piss" to weld cast alloy despite some peoples opinions. What would i need to make an efi manifold? a Throttle body? what else. Could i find an efi manifold from a similar engine (similar capacity) and adapt it (grapht) to suit a 4k? P.S he also told me the story of the corolla he used to have, but he had to get rid of it because he had to many problems with the garbage man trying to pick his car up ;)

hey guys, well I'm having some issues withthe brakes on the 1ggte ke70. basically what happens is that when you depress the brake pedal it goes down along way and the brakes arnt too sharp. if you then lift off and quickly back down the "pump up" and i get the stiff pedal i expect these are ra60 calipers on the front and alfa romeo on the rear, but i don't think that matters ive replaced: brand new master cylinder, brand new brake pads, brand new fluid, brand new front rotors and remachined rears there are no leaks and I'm sitting here scratching my head. i have no issues with them due to the compression braking, but i failed an rwc last week because of this and h…
