  1. Has anyone on here, ever installed an oil cooler to their car? any car? If so, did you have an oil temp gauge before with any idea how much of an impact it made to oil temps? I cannot find any information on the net about just how much cooler engine oil is when a cooler is used. liek ball park even 1 or 2 degrees, 10 degrees, 20-50, 80?? Anyone know anything about the subject? I ask because id like to consider cooling my oil to keep the viscosity up there for this old engine. when me 4K is hot, it clicks n slaps n knocks at idle.. these old motors don't have much oil pressure at idle when the oil gets hot. Factory specs say 28.4 psi at 300rpm, i get…

Hi guys just bought myself a ke30 2door and I'm doing the SR20DET conversion at the moment. Since it's the first time I build a car I will definitely be a repeat question asker. For my first question can someone please tell me what size tyres will fit in my standard rear wheel arches and how wide I can go. I'm thinking 225 r17.

  3. Ok so there was a member request for KE corolla weights from the old "Qld Code of Practice - Light Motor Vehicles" I have dusted off the old book and taken a few pages regarding the KE rolla weights and some relevant pre/post pages, https://www.pdf-archive.com/2017/07/11/queensland-code-of-practice-selected-pages/ The unlock: corolla These selected pages are for engine swaps regarding vehicle weights for both pre - approved swaps and weight based swaps. Note the page numbers as this is not an extract page after page, its separate relevant pages as needed.

Hey Guys So the Princess' 55 hardtop is in need of a new dizzy cap, rotor button and points. The current dizzy cap is a Bosch. My question is as follows coz the dizzy cap is a Bosch does that mean the dizzy itself is a Bosch and I have to use all Bosch replacement parts or is there a better product out there that will suit the application. I don't know if it makes any difference but the dizzy has 2 vacuum lines coz she is an auto.

As ae86's are more common, wondering if anyone has tried fitting them? I have called a reputable parts supplier that advised they are different diameters and don't directly fit. Cheers

Hey guys, when I bought my ke30 about 6 months ago, it had a welded diff in it and I soon got sick of it. Bought another Banjo diff, dead and was so loud it gave me a headache in 10 minutes. After putting the weldy back in and driving around I'm sick of it. I suddenly realized that we have a wrecked YR22 Tarago. I've done a bit of reading up and seen that some people put YR21 diffs in, are YR22s different? Of course I'd need to shorten and put on leaf mounts and new shaft. Is it worth it? Would it be to heavy or the ratio be way out? Cheers!

Hi there, I'm new to this page and I'm really needing help! so I have a ke30 with 4k in it. From memory the engine just stopped going a few years back. Iv locked it away and now Iv decided that I wana make it run. Iv charge the battery fully and Iv tried turning it over but all it does is make a click sound. I googled around and figured it might be the starter. Got a new one tested it and still the same. I unbolted the starter and pulled it out so I could see the gears. Left the power and ignition cable connected then I use my jumper cables to earth the starter. Turn my key and the start pops out and spins overrated. When …

The ignition switch in my AE86 has lost it's "action". By which I mean that it is a bit sluggish when turning the key, and doesn't spring back promptly to ON after you start it, and release the key. I've removed the ignition lock from the housing, and it just feels like it needs to be dismantled, given a good clean and lubricated. Does anyone one know how to remove the barrel from the lock? Also, I'm wondering if the switch wiring section with the plastic cartridge in it contains a spring, as there is clearly no return spring mechanism in the lock itself. I intend trying to buy a replacement one of these as my wiring has been cut up over the years.

Finally got some time to do some coilover adjustments on my Corolla. I installed new outter/inner tierods, 8kg springs front and 6kg at back, then had the car corner balanced after. Not really happy with the ride weight. Just trying to mimic the adjustments. It may have been better if i waited for the new springs to settle before the corner balancing. Lesson learned. Have a good day all.

  14. Hello all from Appalachia! Great forum, been reading for months, recently purchased a 1979 Corolla and trying to get it ready for summer. I've been in automotive profession and old car hobby for 33 years, but this is my first vintage Toyota and I'm loving it. I have some questions and hope you can help me, for starters... 1. These 2TC engines have a flat tappet camshaft so I should be running a quality old school oil with high ZDDP, but I'm concerned with viscosity. The original manual states 20w50 on the back, but also 10w40 for summer temperatures in the charts, what do most people run these days? 2. Have any of you used Redline MTL in the T50 transmission? I would like to know what reading you get when accelerating from lets say, 20 to 50 kph with standard gentle driving. one might say, thats like asking how long is a piece of string, but in reality the difference between 2 people performing this test on very different cars should actually be pretty minimal.

Hey guys, About 2 months ago I was fixing a rather big exhaust leak where the 2 pipes go to one, So after looking at the exhaust flange (the nuts were so rusted on we couldn't get them off) we had to remove the entire carby manifold setup etc. After doing that and replacing all the parts (gaskets etc etc) it was running really well for about a week or two. Then it started to only run when the choke was half or fully open. So, first, we tweaked the idle screws abit with no luck. Then we started looking into the hoses, after replacing all the important hoses with new ones it was still happening. Finally we found the problem by running a carby rebuild kit in it and it fixed…

My GFs dads car is playing up a bit when cold. IIts a suzuki Multicab wiht a 3 clinder 12 valve engine. Has a nasty missfire. Now its started again jsut now as he drove off to the shops.. I'm certain its spark related. Not sure if it has points, but am willing to look. My question is, has anyone had an issue where a…

Hey Guys I'm back again at the request of the princess. She has been cruising around in her 55 hardtop for a short while now and all is well in her kingdom of cool. However upon my arrival from work last week i was greeted by her scary scowl. I was soon berated about how badly her car was running. A quick sprint up the street and I have to say it was as ragged as my bank balance. It was coughing and barking struggling to idle and was way down on power all my fault apparently. So with her arms crossed and her foot tapping at an angry pace I popped the bonnet and looked for anything obvious. Nothing. I checked the plugs, the points had a small blast on the contacts which i…

  22. Distributor Block Off Plate for 4KC? I'll be switching to mega squirt MSX3 soon and one of the reasons is to gain full control of the timing. In order to do this I have four 5v logic coil on plugs, a hall effect sensor, and 36-1 crank wheel. Obviously, the distributor is not needed with this setup. I know I need the bottom half because it is driven off the camshaft which turns the distributor that turns the oil pump. Is there a nice pre-fabricated cover to fit over the bare internals of the distributor while still allowing it to drive the oil pump? Regards, John

I have just come into possession of a 78 Carolla. Body and everything is in great shape. The engine has a bad knock. It's undrivable because of the knock. I drove it on to and off of a car trailer to get it back to my house. The engine say ke55 but I was told it's been replaced with a Jem engine? In the past. I want to replace the engine. Is there a brand new engine that will go into this car or if not does anyone know where I could track down a reconditioned one and a someone who works on these to put it in. Or worst case scenario someone to fix the engine that's already in there.

  26. Hi, I need a bit of help with lowering my car. I have a ms85 crown, I ordered some lovells springs for front and rear, because they were the only company that I was aware of that made a lowered rear spring for my car (since I've found pedders makes one as well). So I installed the "sports low" springs which are the first level of low. The front is now scrubbing when I go over bumps in the road, and seems to have a soft spring rate, and the rear has barely even moved, but has a solid spring rate. It's really noticeable when corner that the rears are much stiffer. Has anyone come across variations between brands?, If I get pedders lowered springs for the rea…

  29. Hi all, Every car I have ever owned (except a commodore) has had a leaking rear main seal. Some of my cars worse than others. I have a rebuilt 5mge in one of my cars, and it started leaking straight away after the rebuild. From previous research I have herd that rear main seals can leak because of improper fitment, crap seals (crappy brands that come with clutch kits), and also due to crank balancing. Crank balancing is the one that interests me. I want to repair the leak on one of my 4x4's, because it's leaking oil really bad, but to go to the effort to remove the gearbox and replace it, and have it continue to leak after replacing it makes me wonder. If my c…

  30. Hi Guys, I am wondering what type of ignition systems have found to be good for k series engines. I gather many would have nippon denso electronic dizzys, converted from points. Has anyone tried the Pertronix Australia conversion kit? Or used an MSD system to increase spark and have a rev limiter option? I'm building a 4k with 11.5:1 compression and twin sideraughts for mostly track racing. Am curious of the electronic ignition options of what has proven to be reliable and perform well

It's the off season here in the wonderful state of Oklahoma, USA. That means bitter cold and prepping for spring. I'm considering boring my block and fitting over-sized forged pistons. The only place I have found that make pistons for the 4K is Kameari and those are 88,000 yen or about $770 US. They're also 79mm which seems like a stretch in the 4K block. Is there another company that makes over-sized forged pistons for a 4K? Thanks and happy holidays, JP

If anyones got any info on this please let me know cheers.

Ok guys I've search but could find a definitive answer. I'm going to be driving my 26 as a daily shortly and need it to drive alot nicer than current. The standard shocks are dead and I need new ones, what has everyone used for shorter stroke shocks in the front of 20's? Mines currently approx 60-70mm lower than standard making standard shocks useless. Has anyone upgraded the shocks in the rear of a 26? There quite a bit smaller than 20/25 shocks if i recall?

Hey guys Just a question of a cosmetic nature. I have finally finished getting my daughters KE55 hardtop complete and on the road for her. Just in the nick of time as she got her license last week. My question is do genuine passenger side mirrors exist, were they an optional extra, and is there securing nuts welded to the inside of the door skin the same as the drivers side. For safety I would like her to have a second mirror but she wants to keep it looking as original as possible. Any info on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
