G'day guys. Got another question for you. Instead of buying ke20 balljoints ($80) and then spending $60~ on adapters to run ae86 steering arms I'm wondering if i can just put in ke70 balljoints and save myself the money. I know ke20 fits, so my main question is are KE balljoints the same size? I know the tapers different yada-yada. But i'm wondering if physically, like where they press into the Arm if they're the same size? Cheers

Now, I'm not sure how well i can explain this.. But i'll give it a go. With the sleeve kit going on my T18 struts the ride height will sit pretty low, and this means the factory shocks are way too long and will bottom out.. I don't currently want to spend 300 + some on KYB's to try and fix this as it was something i'd planned to do later.. So, my idea was.. Measuring up the front shocks, putting them in the lathe, shortening them (the actual rod not the body) and then nurling the ends down and tapping the thread on.. Thus leaving them shorter to keep the springs captive and they wont bottom out.. Any idea's on if this possible? I'm unsure whether…

Hey all I'm looking for some help! I have a 4agze in my ke70 with a k50 box behind it. The k50 is about to **** itself making all kinds of noises. So I am wanting to upgrade to a t50. I have a couple of questions about this conversion: What number of splines would my t50 need to have, to sit behind my 4agze without modifacation? (As i don't want to gaft/swap splines) What clutch would be best suited to use? (Ive heard celica but what series?) Hope you can help!! All answers and expereience offered will be much appreciated!!! =)

Hey guys just wandering if anyone would like to share their knowlege on engine bay tubbing, and converting a car from four to two door.. Basically my aim is to tub the engine bay of my ke70 to give it a clean crisp look, whilst allowing me to reach full lock without scraping the inside of my arches.. And to convert my car to a two door as I have just purchased a bolt in half cage, leaving the back doors unnessecary.. Besides we all know coupe's are dope.. So if anyone could link me to info or builds where people have done this to a ke70 or something very similar, id aprecaite it heaps! Thanks...

Hey Guys, Does anyone have any experience in making your own brake lines? I'm in the process of putting on braided lines on my Corolla and the fittings are basically seized onto the pipes/tubes so in the process of attempting to undo the connections I ruined the fittings. In my research I found a whole bunch of videos of people doing all their own brake lines, mainly on hot-rods and muscle cars. It appears everything that's required can be purchased for approx $30.00 to $50.00 - which is a brake line flaring kit and a brake line bender. Has anyone had any success doing their own brake lines? Cheers, Tom.

I got quoted $70 per cylinder to bore a 4k out to a 5k This sounds fairly reasonable to me, just wondering what other peoples experiences are.

Hi all! I'm sure I was on here the other night reading a build thread where someone made mention of a K50 to T50 clutch cable conversion kit a member had put together and was able to be purchased from? Can anyone help out with a contact user name or number please? Or am I tripping? I've been on here and google search for the last hour and more, I can't find the thread. Please don't answer with "hydro conversion set up" responses. Thanks, Ali

Anyone have experience with making a ke20, or any car really.. with tight 2 way lsd turn corners. Problems turning in and understeer. I run in street sprints.. toyo proxes888 tyres.. LOVE my new lsd other than the above. I can lift off the throttle to get it to turn in better, but there are corners i could take better if i could reduce the understeer. Current thoughts are camber, toe out and maybe rca for low springs.

Hi Everyone, I own a KE10 and I'm at that point where I have decided to put a 4k engine into it. I'm treating this as my crash course in learning more about cars. As far as I have read through this wonderful site, it is supposed to be easy. Basically I would like to know everything I need to complete this conversion. I'm not interested in having a drift car or a super "fast" car. I just want something with the ability to make it up hills and be zippy while commuting between work and weekend events. As it stands, I have a 1967, KE10, 1.1L, 4 speed manual. I don't have much of an issue with the 4 speed. However if there is a better 5 speed option to go with …

Hey Guys. I've been on here a while now, very much enjoy looking at the builds, and learning from the discussions. I don't come from a family of mechanically talented people, and so most of my "skills" are self taught, in a shed with a haynes manual, If I told you my first fan belt change cost me something like 2 hours (stripped a couple bolts along the way, WD40 it up guys), you better believe it. But I've come a long way since then, and nowadays I'm more confident and skilled, but that doesn't mean I'm anything without proper instructions. I'm now prepping for my biggest adventure so far : an engine swap. changing the 3K to a 2T with a conversion set…

Hi guys, have a 1980 ke55 and I just took the motor out and replaced it with one from a ke70 while using the ke55 cam, carb, distributor, head etc. Has new coil, points, condenser, cap, rotor, leads, seals, headgasket etc. Timing set to 8degrees btdc, points set to 0.4mm, valve clearances set cold. Starts fairly easily and can rev in neutral easily like it used to but if i give the accelerator a few jabs it dies until it returns to idle, also when I take it for a test drive it doesn't want to rev easily and dies when I go over around 3000rpm. Just wondering if you guys can give me some tips or what your thoughts are on the problem and how to fix it? First time postin…

Hey guys just recently brought my 1987 Ka67 AUTOMATIC Toyota Carina for a steal. Its running a 5k 3 speed automatic box and was curious to see if a k50 manual would bolt up to it? If so, what pedal box can i use to operate the clutch which was never there? I know its not a corolla, but i thought I'd give it a shot, sick of the crummy auto box already! Cheers!

Something's wrong with my drums I think, have been since I bought the car. Have had them looked at twice, they still don't work anywhere near as well as I think they should. I've got them tightened as far as they will go (I think they're probably even dragging a bit at the moment), it's down to 1 click... But yeah, because they're really very ineffective I have to yank REALLY hard to get them to lock up at all...

Found this on the Datto1200 site (infinite source of fun): http://datsun1200.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=2441 Can't post pic here unfortunately, the site doesn't quite allow linking of photos but you can see it with the link :) Thought it was rather neat, especially for diffs (gearboxes you can usually fill them from the shifter hole if it's a RWD...)

Does anyone know of any workshops/people/cousins/brothers/etc who are good at working 4AGE engines? The only person I know who knows lots about 4AGE's is Anthony Kellam, but I don't know if he knows much about working them... Bill Sherwood seems to know a lot, but he's not really someone easy to get a hold of... I'm just looking for direction as to where to go with my engine... (which probably won't go anywhere for awhile due to zero funds, but would be nice to know where I could go if I did have some funds!)

I drove a bit and the engine died, flat battery.. then recharged the battery and drove home now I have changed to a 2T alternator I know worked a half year ago, with a multimeter the + at the B pole( when the cable is disconnected ) and - at the battery when the engine runs it charge only 0.4v.. that isn't enough for me :\ what can be wrong? is really both alternators defect? sound strange to me.. but okay.. earth.. is trough the engine? can be a ba…

Question about the K series timing chain. I stripped my newly acquired 5K down at the weekend. Got a Toyota 2K to 5K genuine engine manual yesterday off eBay which I will use to check all original measurements. Note that some in these threads are suggesting that the timing chain be changed to 2 row on 5Ks. I agree ! From my experience with chains in any application. They streeeetch over time. Question. Where do you get a double row timing chain & sprokets for the 5K ? Are they an aftermarket part ? I note, and old 3K I have here in the garage has a double row timing chain on it as standard. Do the 3K double chains & cam & crankshaft sp…

bummer, i reversed out my mates driveway, and left onto the road, and hit a bullbar sticking out off a 4wd that was parked on the footpath at about 30km/h. was pitch black, and i was obviously not looking properly. the rear left panel is warped, the boot wont close, the tailight is in the boot, and the bumper is still straight. the tailight area looks like an eye socket. might just get another Ke70, and use this one for parts.

From http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/8422/4age.htm: Opinions? Isn't the cover to keep dust and stuff off the cam belt etc? I would assume that if you drive offroad or on dirt etc (autocross, rally etc) then taking the belt covers off wouldn't be the best idea in the world, since you'd be more prone to getting shit on the belt? That said, I've got holes in my covers where the FWD engine mounts are supposed to stick out...
