ive been doing some sideways dirt/gravel action this week and i'm sick of my bonnet popping open the first step, because one day it's going to open all the way i got myself some bonnet pins today, i'll probably copy nikki and install them in place of the existing rubber stops fook, what did you use for rubber stops on yours? it was a leaf eye bush chopped in half wasn't it? anybody else got some tips or handy ideas for installing them? i'm guessing measure lots of times and drill small pilot holes for everything first so i get my positioning right. any other help?

I've just finished putting a new 4A-C in my AE71 (thanks Jason and Teddy, ended up doing the whole thing by hand, lifting the motor out of Jason's car, then into mine at home haha) and since the old one is apparently a non-interferance motor so there shouldn't be any damage I was going to rebuild it for a spare my question is has anyone here ever played with these motors? I'm thinking of rebuilding it with a bigger cam, ported head and possibly bigger carb if I do that will it have enough power to spin the wheels? I've upgraded the brakes and suspension cause I want to drift it and was going to do a 4AGZE conversion but I got over it and can't be bothered spen…

As some of you may already know, my T50 has shat itself (partly through some maltreatment). Now I'm trying to decide what to do. My options are: 1. Get a kit to replace the synchros. 2. Get a replacement T50. 3. Get a W-series transmission. My Corolla is for race use only, and currently has a 4AGZE, the only mods being extractors and programmable ECU. However, I will want to up the power significantly in the future. So can anyone give me some idea of the max power/torque they have put through a T50 over a long period of time without having it self-destruct. Is it worth me going to the trouble of installing something like a W58 (Supra transmission), or shoul…

Ahoy peoples. Just a quick question, Does the crankshaft pulley bolt on a K series motor (doing 5K atm) have a reverse type thread? (Clockwize to undo) or is it a normal (anti-clockwize to undo) ? Ive got access to all the SST's ever known to man, which Ive already made use off, but this one bolt has me rather stuck; the only fact in the Toyota manuals they don't tell you.. Ive got a hinting suspicion that IS a reverse type thread.. blast! :D

Rust, the favourite find of the auto enthusiast :P just doing the chassis of my ke25 and i have found some here and there much to my amusement lol... anyway any diy/mechanical person probably has come across their fair share of it and I'm interested to know how people get rid of it. depending how severe it is, seems rust can be sanded, chemical converted, blasted, ground down to bare metal, needle scalled, chemically removed, electro bath removal, cut out and rewelded. if it can't be cut out and rewelded such as a component or area that would be difficult to replace, and isnt very severe, then what does everyone recommend out of the other met…

Hi, I happen to be reading some where on the net that the old KEXX series corolla was released with a diesel motor in it. I was wondering is this true and if so are they rare to pick up? Also does anyone know if the liteace that used the K series motor ever came with a diesel motor if it did can we place this into our corollas if they didn't have a diesel motor from the factory? Hi All, here's my first how to, not sure if the pics will work but here go's. Cheap brake upgrade for RWD Corollas (AE71 or similar). After looking through endless web pages for information on a cheap brake upgrade, and not finding anything useful (some people have a different view on what “cheap†is – my definition is as cheap as possible) I've decided to throw this article together. My set up (not yet cleaned and painted) http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p232/fo.../Image00002.jpg Close up: http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p232/fo.../Image00003.jpg I've used T18 struts as the basis of my upgrade as they are fairly easy to find (compar…

I am about to start striping the interior of my AE71 and was wondering according to the law how much interior trim can be taken out before the car is deemed illegal or unsafe. I will probably be taking out the rear seats, centre console and all interior carpet.

hi guys, i have to fix some rust on my '79 KE55 corolla (wow, shock horror!). Was wondering if anyone who has done this before could give me a hand. First time i've had to fix rust and a little unsure of how to do some things (eg: welding) Of course there will be renumeration for anyone who can help. its mostly on the rear quarter panel, passenger door sill and a few very minor spots here and there. most of the minor spots are just surface rust though and could be removed easily. I did have a friend who was going to help me with this but he can't do it anymore, so i'm seeing if anyone in brisbane can give me a hand. So if anyone can give me a hand let me k…

Hey Hey, I just picked up some HILUX 4x4 calipers for my rolla and was thinking about giving them a coat of paint to clean them up a bit. I was thinking about chucking them in the medium blaster at work, but I don't want to strip them because they work fine. Can I just mask off any areas that should be avoided like the pistons? obviously it will need some heavy duty tape or a few layers at least. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the do's and don't's. Cheers Dan

Converting my "surge tank" setup on my 4age ke70 to intank to get it through Regency here in SA. Have got a VL intank pickup feeding to a VL external pump. Have mounted the intank pump and done a test run without the tank etc mounted, and it ran fine. different story when i mounted it though given the bends etc in the hoses, as it coughed and spluttered and stalled. Question is, where have you guys mounted your exteral pump? i want to stay away from tight curves etc obviously, so guessing the area around where the tank mounts up isnt realistic? Or is there somewhere i can put it in there? Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I am in the process of changing my front seats out of my daily driver ke20, and would like to know what kind of seats fit without to much trouble. Mine have lost most of it's foam stuffing and it feels like your sitting on the floor, so I would like some comfortable seats with some sideways support, just rember being a two door, that the back part has to fall forward as I need access to the rear seat for passengers. :D Cheers, Mark. :D :fuzz:

i've just finished a 4AG conversion into my ke35... doing some testing over the last few days, i've sheared my rear brake line twice. when the engine revs it rocks to the drivers side of the car and the rear of the inlet manifold just touches the rear brake line right where it exits the master cylinder. just wondering if anyone has had this problem too, and how they fixed it I'm currently trying to find if there is an alternate master cylinder that bolts onto the later model ke3x brake booster, but is narrower (giving me more clearance between brake line and inlet manifold) or has downward facing brake line outlets.

Hey all. I have cut springs all round on my car but the back ones are king springs for a falcon and the front ones are stock... Now my problem is a real dam bumpy ride. I was thinking of taking out my rear air shocks and replace them with gas shocks. That's my plan for the rear. So now I'm stuck with the front. Is there any possible way to make the front a smoother ride? Cheers

Hi, Ill have to psot pics later but I currently have an issue. In my KE15 I HAVE AN EARLY 2 PIN FLYWHEEL (ORIGINAL ke15 ITEM) AND A ORIGINAL ke15 clutch setup. Original KE15 clutch ressure plate has 660Lbs force over a stock KE10/11 one of 600lbs FYI. But heres the problem. I want to run a later 3 pin flywheel. So I need a later 3 pin cluthch cover. Now early K boxes that fit KE1X had less splines on the input shaft and there actual clutch disk has a differentsplines int eh centre. Can I use a early clutch disk in a later clutch pressure plate and flywheel setup? Or will it foul or damage it in ayn way? Is there anyone out there doing this? …

What do people think is a better/more powerful/more tunable setup for a worked 5K? The EFI setup for K series motors or twin carbs? If twin carbs, are Aisans up to the job or is it really worth the extra for webers? Currently have the EFI setup going but its having warmup / idle issues possibly due to the cam, and i can't help but wonder if it would all just be easier with carbs... Any help / experience / advice appreciated, Cheers ;)

Hey guys, Alec here again with my 4k rebuild that's taking a million years. I'm getting closer and closer. But i've run into a problem. Here's the low down. Basically i had the head "rebuilt" by a mate. He just cleaned it up, new valve stem seals, levelled the attaching surface. But when i got it back, he hadn't taken that plate off the back. So i have no idea what he actually did to it, but it cost me a carton of piss so i'm not complaining (god how bad does that hole look :( ) Now i went to take this backplate off the head to change the gasket and clean it up cos it looked manky. And as i was undoing the bottom left bolt it just snapped. Clean in …

The other day after a massive spike a month or so back in temperature (then not driving him), I did a full flush of all coolant and used radiator cleaner and cleaned up the gunky thermostat and put it all back together, and for a week or so it was fine. But now as of a few days ago, the thermostat in my 26 has started fluctuating intermittently, once up to as far as it goes when I was in a multi-story carpark going like 15kmh.. and there's tiny bubbles in the radiator on startup.. And he blew a bit of smoke yesterday. Went to a radiator place in town today and and after a look he said I've done a head gasket, but only a little, and because of a possible partially blocked…

Hey Guys I'm back again at the request of the princess. She has been cruising around in her 55 hardtop for a short while now and all is well in her kingdom of cool. However upon my arrival from work last week i was greeted by her scary scowl. I was soon berated about how badly her car was running. A quick sprint up the street and I have to say it was as ragged as my bank balance. It was coughing and barking struggling to idle and was way down on power all my fault apparently. So with her arms crossed and her foot tapping at an angry pace I popped the bonnet and looked for anything obvious. Nothing. I checked the plugs, the points had a small blast on the contacts which i…

Hey guys, when I bought my ke30 about 6 months ago, it had a welded diff in it and I soon got sick of it. Bought another Banjo diff, dead and was so loud it gave me a headache in 10 minutes. After putting the weldy back in and driving around I'm sick of it. I suddenly realized that we have a wrecked YR22 Tarago. I've done a bit of reading up and seen that some people put YR21 diffs in, are YR22s different? Of course I'd need to shorten and put on leaf mounts and new shaft. Is it worth it? Would it be to heavy or the ratio be way out? Cheers!

hey all. ive talked a lot in recent posts about certain things and thought i owed it to everyone to put some pics vids of my findings up here. everything here is on stock carburettor on a 4k-U block with dished pistons, and dry compression at about 150 PSI. firstly, spark plug reading . i used to have black plugs, which was a result of a rich mixture when coasting and seriously rich mixture on deceleration due to the idle circuit supplying an uncombustible overrich amount of fuel when the throttle is closed shut or nearly closed and manifold vacuum is high. This creates huge suction on the fuel from the slow jet and doesnt pull in any air at all really…

Hey guys, Just after some input. I am currently running a 4k in my KE70, I have recently had ideas and dreams for more power so thought a bigger engine would be fun. I decided 5k since it seemed most of my 4k running gear will bolt straight onto the 5k. I found a 7k engine in good nick, which I've been informed most of my 4k gear will also bolt upto. What should I do? Cheers, Jake.

Hey guys on my two rear tires i have a small egg or bulge on each tire? Their pretty minor (pictured is the worst one) and don't seem to effect how the tires run. Does anyone know why this happens or if i can get rid of it? Ive been told its possible that the tires are not seated corrected? I would usually just get new tires but these tires are almost brand new and are good bridgestones. Since i haven't brought them myself (came with the car) i can't take them back of course. Can anyone give me some advice?

Hey guys, My Holden Astra 1.8 TS 2004 has one rear brake squeaking, it first started last week when I was just driving along and it was random and now it's becoming an ongoing sound! It only dissappears when I hit the brake pedal, so I thought yep pads are on the way out, but looking at them, they have heaps of meat left on them... any ideas?
