hi guys, just bought a KE55 coupe the other week and its starting to have some engine problems. The engine is a 4K-C with a Fiat Webber on it and everything else standard. It has some trouble starting up, especially when cold. On my way to work this morning it had a distinct lack of power. as in, it struggled to get past 60kph in third. It free revs fine, but under load it coughs and splutters, sounds like its misfiring. some times it runs ok. but this only lasts for about 20 seconds, then it goes back to the coughing. It was running fine just a few days ago, but has started doing this more and more lately. any help would be appreciated guys, Thanks, M…

The other thing is the car stalls constantly and I can't get it to idle. One thing I havent checked is timing, is this something that could cause these soughts of issues

Hey guys, I need some advice on things that might cause the engine to stall when applying throttle or choke. Context: had year old fuel in the car from about a year of sitting around while body work and paint was being done. Car wouldn't run without stalling after about 12months, so we drained fuel tanks and refurbished carby. Now the thing starts and idles beautifully but any choke or throttle causes it to stall. The fuel pump seems to definitely be working because I disconnected inlet into the carburetor while the engine was running and it was flowing a tonne of fuel. The engine sounds like it might be misfiring a bit, but I don't know how to diagnose that. The vacuum …

I'm a bit worried about my KE70. I was driving it today on more or less no oil (I didn't know until I got home)... each time I'd brake or go slow in a high gear it would begin to stall. I filled it up with oil as soon as I got home but it still wants to stall... can anyone think of a reason for any of this? Also the brake lights have stopped working... I've recently put on Superlites that are bigger than the stock wheel so could this have something to do with the brakes? Should I get larger brakes to handle the size increase? Edit: fixed the brake lights they were both blown for some reason. Cheers.

hi I own a 1984 Ke70 sedan. It drives perfectly for long distances untill you turn off the engine, then the car refuses to restart and when it does it constantly stalls and has zero acceleration. Even if you let the car sit still for a few hours it still doesn't work. However if you let the car "rest" overnight it is magically fixed and runs fine again untill u stop again. Noone has any idea what is wrong with it, the only thing i haven't done is try an exorcism. Can anyone help?

Andrew, I promised you I would post you a picture of the 5K engine, to show you how clean it is now ! To fill you all in. This engine came from a KE55 that had been done up by someone, unknown. A 5K & K50 g/box had been added and the interior done up. Anyway the cancer set in, and the car was doomed to be a "paddock basher" in a large orchard near Caloundra, where it was used to "get around" the orchard, on muddy tracks. When Andrew & I saw it, it had grass inside the car (growing I think) and you have never seen such a dirty engine. The car had more cancer that the Qld Health system, and there was only one place for the body. Back to Japan, …

Anyway, Its had a new motor put in, a million years ago, its a 5k whatever that means. It needs a tune up, Dad reckons the tappits need to be done, so we need the engine specs to know what to do with them, if anyone can make sense of this, and help, I'd be heaps greatful. :S

If theres any car 1970-1990 (early 1990) that you would like the settings for (bar all the corollas because I'm putting them up anyway) please PM me and I'll add it to my list! I'll also have a separate topic for each car for easy searching and finding. For locating compressor maps try: http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/turbotech.html however the final release will include a host of compressor maps in the zip file. Lastly if your using the program in a serious mannor be honest and the answers calculated will be accurate or slightly conservative. There is a problem with the torque curve, with values are around half of what they should be. Other than that it's almost finished. Cheers Jordan P.S: I'm currently workn…

I stumbled upon this page: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi_15_engineering_signatories_november_2010.pdf If you scroll down, there is a list of registered Engineering Companies for NSW, VIC, QLD, SA & WA which may be helpful for some people. I know in WA, there is a separate page on the WA government's site for Automotive engineers. So this may only be helpful for NSW & VIC people. I did search, but couldn't tell if this had been posted before…

I have a 1976 Ke30 4 door with a CA18DET including Transmission and custom driveshaft. Hey check this. serviced my 911 today, and when I pulled the rotor out I got a strange surprise. Check it out below. Funny offset rotor arm. In the centre, the yellow thing is spring loaded with an electrical contact on the end. Centripetal force drives it out until it makes contact with the tab on the outside. I think its a crude sort of rev limiter, because once it contacts it will earth through the driveshaft of the dizzy. The replacement item I bought was just your garden variety rotor, so If anyone knows any more about it, I'm all ears.....

Only a few days before this I had ran the tank almost dry, and the car seemed to have definate flat spots in the power so I figured the reason for the loss in power was because the carby was blocked with shit. replaced all fuel lines and filter and cleaned the jets in the carby. Flat spots were definately gone but car still felt noticebly down in power and exhaust fumes were getting worse. I figured the muffler was blocked as I had just noticed the exhaust sounded different but thought I was imagining it till this point. Anywa…

Hi guys I've had a problem where you can smell exhaust in the cabin of my KE70 thats been there for years and very subtle but getting progressively worse. Without stripping down the whole thing and looking for a hole, does anyone know of a common place for a hole or something to occur on a KE70 that makes this happen. It was happening before and after an exhaust upgrade and engine swap so stuffs me if there's an issue with the exhaust somewhere between engine and exhaust tip, its just strange. cheers, and congrats for the KE20 that won the vote, its truly awesome. I took my KE15 to the muffler shop today and apparantly they are not able to/don't want to make an intermediate pipe for my car. I have the 3k installed and ready to go except for exhaust. I have emailed the guy that Mikey suggested here in the states in regards to the extractors that he had but have not heard back yet. I may need to swap the exhaust manifold from the k-c to the 3kc for the fact that the 3k currently has a dual port exhaust and the k is a small looking manifold with a single port which will be much easier to make a down pipe for. If I cannot find an extractor, is there going to be any major difference in the performance of the 3k with the k exhaust ma…

Ok so the 4AGE I bought had no exhaust manifold and no bolts or nuts for it. So here is the dilemma I bought some high tensile M10 x 1.25 35mm (or 45mm can't remember of the top of my head I can check though). Will those do the job? The nuts thread on fine. But the bolts are quite firm. ei can barely be twisted by hand. I am shit scared of snapping them in the block! Is their something I can do to make it a bit easier/safer? Many thanks!

Hey all, This is something I mentioned in a for sale thread last week, thought I'd take a couple of pics for those that want to see. Basically, all K motors have the same size exhaust ports except for a 7ke. 7kc still is still the same size as 3/4/5k's. Below is a couple of pics of a 7ke manifold gasket up against a 3k big port head. And for anybody who didn't know 7ke's also have bigger oval shaped inlet ports. If you round out the holes they're then the size of a 3kbp. size for the average pics, they're off my phone. Cheers, Si.

Its a 5k, 5k head, extractors are 4-2-1 ( dnt know brand) gasket is a Toyota product.. that metal one. (can get code if helps) I put the gasket onto the extractors to see how they line up and was surprised to see that the gasket ports were much smaller then the size of the actual extractor ports.. As an estimate like 2mm on each side. So not like the intake where I will probably need to take 2mm at the bottom but all round. The gasket lines up resonably well with the head ports and the intake ports... sooo I'…
